As a retired marine engineer I watched the overhaul of the Gardner engine, and I am now enjoying the Dorman project, power tool’s certainty speed the job up,all hand spanner’s or a big hammer in my day.cheers Roly🇬🇧.
Been saving things for that rainy day for years, and because of that have to be brutal on what gets kept as it all takes up space. As that drive adapter is specific to the generator the engine drove and is easily remade if it was ever needed again it gets filed in the bin.
We love the Dormans, like any engine these LB's have there weak points but in general they are pretty bomb proof. Very rarely do we find major issues with these on teardown.
Great video again. Good choice of engine, really interesting to see an engine that was in good inside. Guess if it was stand by BR most the hours would be scheduled maintenance.
@@MPSVintageDiesels thanks - I’ve tried to in the past but the ‘send a message’ part on your site doesn’t work - at least not for me - it comes up with an error message when you click ‘send’……
When I was a young learner mechanic, I was taught to replace bolts into the holes which they came from, so that they did not get lost or otherwise misplaced. I don’t see that done here.
They will have their system for filing the bolts nuts etc. for cleaning before reassembly. If you are going to clean the block right down to bare metal and repaint you can't have bolts blocking holes....
