Eind 1926 arriveerden de eerste zes Dornier Wal-zeevliegtuigen op Marinevliegkamp Morokrembangan in Nederlands-Indië. Met de ingebruikname van deze grotendeels metalen vliegboten kreeg de Marine Luchtvaartdienst (MLD) voor het eerst de beschikking over een strategische luchtverkenner-bommenwerper die met zijn actieradius van ruim 2.000 kilometer ook de uithoeken van de archipel kon bestrijken. Bij het grote publiek kreeg de Wal - voorzien van twee motoren in tandemopstelling met duw- en trekschroef - vooral bekendheid tijdens de muiterij op de Zeven Provinciën in februari 1933. Een Wal gooide toen een bom op het voordek van de kruiser waarbij 23 doden en vele gewonden vielen. Bijna alle 46 Dornier Wals kwamen uiteindelijk in Nederlands-Indië terecht. De laatste exemplaren waren nog in dienst als lesvliegtuig en manusje-van-alles toen Japan de Nederlandse kolonie in 1941/1942 binnenviel.

At the end of 1926 the first six Dornier Wal flyingboats arrived on Morokrembangan navel air base in the Dutch East Indies. With the commissioning of this largely metal flying boats the Marine Luchtvaart Dienst (MLD) acquired a strategic air Explorer-bomber with a range of over 2,000 km. This could cover the far reaches of the archipelago. The Flyingboat equipped with two engines in tandem Setup got famous among the general public during the mutiny on de Zeven Provinciën in February 1933. A Wal threw when a bomb on the front deck of the cruiser in which 23 dead and many wounded. Almost all 46 Dornier Wals eventually ended up in Dutch East Indies. The last copies were still in service as a training aircraft and Jack of all trades when Japan invaded the Dutch colony in 1941/1942.
