My father introduced me to Dorothy Donegan in 1977.whwn I was 6 years old. I've been a fan ever since and I've told anyone who would listen how awesome she is
Depending upon your age, because Dorothy Donegan left us in 1998, many simply did not share enough of the same time line. As a Chicagoan born in 1959, I knew of Ms. Donegan as a hometown heroine who remained a favourite to the end. But with so many changes in popular music and tastes, glad you have found her and like her now!
Dorothy was in a league of her own. Thanks for sharing the video. I really enjoyed every minute of her playing. She mastered the piano and she was ahead of her time.
Incredible wonderful. she has more then just amazing skill …she has magical energy I can feel it @cross the eons …she is an immortal ..bless you for posting this 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇮😊
Combination of superb musicality and wonderful clown. Genius! She kept reminding me of someone-even her facial expressions, mouth. the New Orleans piano genius, James Booker.
Wonderful Pianist ! Super confident on her playing ability ! Please do not forget about the late GREAT Hazel Scott ! Another Sensational Piano Player ! Two Piano Legends ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
I heard dorathy on the piano jazz show ..and I have never heard anyone play better then her. And I've heard them all don't let the clowning fool you. In the mood knowing played better. I'm only sorry I never met her ..
If anyone could be said to have had it all, it's Dorothy. I don't think any other pianist could play such a wide range of styles so authentically and with such virtuosity. Just marvellous.
Not many Jazz pianists really ham it up like she does and look right out at the audience almost saying with her eyes, "you better pay attention cause hete ot comes....".
Not sure, but he looks like James Leary, long-time mainstay of the Count Basie Orchestra (post Basie), and that we discovered playing in the Earl Hines trio, a very good school indeed !
All her body is moving as per music, you can read her state even without sound. Special. It seems for whatever reason, her name so far was like avoided?
Art famously said, “she was the only woman who ever made me practice.” Only reason she’s not more widely known is that she (RIGHTLY!!!) demanded the same pay and recognition as men, and only got it toward the end of their life. The “in the knows” have always known about her, malade she’s finally getting big, too bad she couldn’t see it. Absolute legend.
