Dota Basics Episode 1: This is Dota

You're actually limited to the easiest 25 heroes for the first 20 games or something. A workaround for that is to find your 'command' hotkey (I believe the standard is '\')
Then press that hotkey and enter:
"dota_new_player false" or "dota_new_player 0"
It should allow you to pick any hero from game 1. The hero
Also, this is kind of a rip-off of valve's this is dota. 1st real episode out later today

If you already have 100+ games I recommend checking the Learn Dota series(Still being made): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u0rYxCVRrUM.html Or if you have a lot of time you can look through the Day9 learns dota series. -Seatech

I think the well-spoken narration coupled with the clean appearance of Purge will subconsciously make regular DotA2 players (who are semi-feral and look like hobos usually) step up their game. Jokes aside, making Purge an official element of DotA2 (as an in-client guide to the tutorial) would legitimately be a good move IMO. If the first thing I saw/heard as a new player was THIS...I'd definitely associate DotA2 with professionalism, helpfulness, depth, and also accessibility.

and thats the problem with dota nowadays :/ toxicity is spreading to like every player. with the game being too complex and not that forgivable unlike the other mobas, toxicity dont help at all thats why players number are decreasing.. hope valve do something about it :p

This is exactly what Dota needs. I still remember my first two months of playing consisted of nothing but feeding and insanely big loses because I didn't have a clear tutorial. It's tough to explain to a new player how Dota works and I think you did a great job at that.

maybe u were too old to start playing dota, i start to play b4 i was 12 (i'm 24) and i nailed it without anyone explaining it to me. I think without tutorial it's easier to understand using instinct rather than structural thinking in such a game, and i used my instinct more when i was younger, so i assume most of ppl does.

I wanna give an advice to other people watching these guides. I'm a beginner myself but I found out that these things actually helped me, drastically, not by like a small margin, like by a ton. Play *every* hero before entering an online game with other players, learning a hero in a game with others is less than ideal situation for you and the others. If you have no idea what to pick/buy on your hero, make at least 1 build for each hero and always use that in case you forget, always have 1 of each type of item you can buy, like let's say you have 3 end-game items, 1 should be the anti-spell item, then anti-physical one and maybe like an item that makes you do more damage. Don't "counter pick", if you're reading guides about Dota 2 there's a high chance that you can't execute your strategy with your counter pick, you'll be better off playing your stronger hero. Stick to 10 heroes, 2 of each role. Or, stick to 2 roles, preferably, the roles that are kinda similar, like Mid & Carry, or Support & Hard Support, don't play more than 5 of each role in this case (10 total still). I play random in other moba (Hots) and I wanna do the same here, but that won't quite work out atm, there's much more to it than you wanting to play random, or all of the heroes there are. Focus on learning your hero more than focusing what others do, or the enemy heroes, once you learn your hero then learn other heroes. You can't gain an advantage as a hero that you can't play on someone that knows their hero, if you don't know your advantage/disadvantages you can't work around them. Learn your hero before learning what to buy, how to play and what you can do on the map. If you don't know the strength of your power (hero), you won't be able to make the best use of it. If you're still reading here's what I will do: I'm gonna play vs bots for... 1-2 months, learn every hero (I don't play a lot each day, this isn't as long as you think), once I do that then I'll work on my early 6-8 minutes, do the same thing vs bots for a few weeks, once I have a reflex of what I kept doing over and over then I'll try that vs players in unranked, once I can do that on about 5-10 heroes then I'll step in ranked and see how it goes from there. And one more thing, I might not like this advice myself, but it works for me, there's a high chance that it won't work for you. Coming from another moba where I have good reflexes to attack-move and dodge skill shots or 'cause I've been playing moba for long, I'm gonna buy strong early-game items with huge stats and gain an advantage over my opponent 'cause I wanna trade better and I wanna make the best use of my right clicks or early abilities, but I don't buy consumables. I'm also gonna buy the items that either deal damage or are simple to use, I'll stick to items with passives most of the time. Good luck to everyone who wants to improve in the game. Also, feel free to correct me on my comment or add some things yourself if you think it will help others. Thanks to Purge for creating this and many other videos, they help a lot.

I just started playing Dota 2 and it's the saltiest experience of my life. I had heard some bad things, but I assumed it would be close to what I experience playing Ranked on R6 or comp on CS, but holy shit was I wrong. Every player in this game takes it so seriously, I've only done three games of Unranked and in every single one my teammates flamed me for everything I did. Thankfully I'm the type of guy to be mostly amused by this, and it helped that my friend with 6,000 hours would trash talk them right back and take the attention off of me. Is there a reason people treat Unranked as if it was the grand final of the Dota championship?

Hey Purge! I'm starting watching this series. I know recently Dota got a HUGE update. Are you going to made a corrected version or maybe provide a list of the things needed to change of the video? Thanks.

The camera not locking to your hero is the hardest part for me to get used to. Its like I'm playing Civ but I have to manually focus the unit I'm using.

Getting back into Dota 2 and noticed A LOT of big changes after patch 7.23. Any chance Purge, or anyone else, will/has an updated guide with all these changes for returning players? Thanks in advance.

hi @PurgeGamers , i've wanted to try and play more dota and get back into the game but i have not come to the conclusion to do so cause i see and hear a lot about the game being in a steady decline and i'm unsure if i want to get back into the game if the lifespan of the game is not going to be much longer. would you suggest i get back into the game or do you think it will stay and steadily decline?
