Yet in all these comments there was a missing component, the beautiful feeling of having something done by yourself, all the hours that were invested in creating this project that brought happiness and memories that can't be valued in any financial value, plus the bus can travel abroad. I have to admit at this point I'm jealous. Congrats!!!
YOU ARE DEFINITELY RICH! Rich in skills and abilities! Rich in determination and self control! There isn't anything easy or fun about saving, not until later in life! From your videos, you two are also Rich in love, you both treat each other well in these videos! Your build is Awesome! I only wish there is a word more awesome then Awesome to describe what you built for yourselves! Wishing you the best in all of your trips! Be safe!
Double deckers are not a good option if you will be moving alot. The reason why double deckers were discontinued was due to their instable centre of gravities. So you can't really take these to mountains, on the other hand skoolies can easily go up there. So that's a huge disadvantage.
@@humayunmir5563 I DID NOT say anything about taking these up a mountain. YOU DID. This vehicle can be parked on a lot permanently or semi-permanently and it can be as solid as any mobile home structure to live in. Plus it has almost double the square footage of a skoolie, giving it more space for a 'Regular Home' feel or space for a larger Family.
@@udmbfckx2916 Plus, I don't know if you've ever been to the Netherlands but it's one of the flattest countries out there with the best roads of Europe (in my opinion)
Ignore the 'children' in the comments who claim "You must be rich and bored!" to build such a beautiful mobile home. These children do not (nor will ever) understand the value of hard work and saving. You built a remarkable vehicle. Be proud of it.
If we consider that a new regular motorhome in Europe costs from 65.000 to over 100.000 €... 80.000€ for a project like this it's not that much! And with the overhauled engine the bus can live almost forever doing millions of chilometers around the world! Awesome!!!
@@aflentertainment It's a common mistake for us Italians. Here in Italy the translation of kilometers is chilometri, so sometimes happens that we mix everything together :D
I live in Brazil then my "World" is South America...have a motorhome like this we could travel only some countries, like Brazil, Argentina, Uruguai, Chile, maybe Colômbia. But Bolívia, Venezuela, even Paraguay, It is too dangerous.
@@carloshernriquebatistadeba2452 It depends. If you use the motorhome for holidays, I agree with you; but if you do like a friend of mine, the situation changes. Now he's in retirement with his wife, and he's travelling around the whole World with a motorhome that he made 10 years ago on an Iveco 370 (one of the most glorious Italian buses ever made). Five years ago he departed from Italy driving to the east for thousand of kms in direction to the eastern part of Siberia, then he ferried to Alaska. Now he's enjoying his motorhome somewhere in U.S.A.. He said that after this journey he want to come back, drive from Russia to the south, pass from Turkey and go in Africa. If you have a nice motorhome (reliable and well made), nothing is impossible, but you need time and a lot of money!
It's very generous of you to answer the cost question. I consider anyone's finances personal information. Just as it's rude to ask how much someone's income, its rude in this aspect too. Thank you for your generosity.
I think many people ask not to assess his wealth, but to see if it's feasible to try and endeavour this on their own(even on a smaller scale). If I had to start a project knowing I'd run outta money well before it's finished, there's no point in starting. With these insight, people can see if they're up to it financially ( and technically, although that's often a thing they'd learn as they go, as long as you're good with your hands and have a plan, it'll be alright).
It's only rude because it can highlight the injustice of pay for what people do for a job. I don't care if people know what I earn, I drive trucks in the UK now I earn around £24,000 per year. I have earned £54,000 a year driving with a different company but I didn't enjoy that job so much so I left. Money is just a means to a end for paying bills to me. People put too much emphasis on how much people earn, I am happier in this job now.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore Totally agree with you,It's a shame people feel this about money!! I'm the same as you drive for a living earned about £26,000 this year including overtime but like you said it only a means to an end, earn your money and live and enjoy living life cuz that's what we are here for.
He paid 400 euros for tv's internet and soundbar. I live also in holland. Just one small tv cost about 500 euros, he have few , dual band router cost minimum100 euros, soundar, cheapest one about 200 euros. So just in that one place is mistake about 1,5k euros. Also painting one element at car cost about 350 euros, whole car is about 2500-3000 euros, and he says it was 5000. No way. Watching his movies from building process and this list, i can easly says that 50k for bus is acceptable, but conversion cost was not 30 but 60-80k. Holland isnt cheap. Fucking 5m cable cost 20 euros where here is hundreds of them.
@@artlew6547 I get your point, but that's what he said... we have to take his word for it, he could have gotten most of the items second hand which is cheaper 💯
@@laserworkstv I will say nothing if he will be true. In another commentary section I discussed with him and told him that it isn't a crime to have money as far you didn't stole it if he have some parts second hand there is also no shame in that! Just simply be real or avoid topic. I don't understand why people touch money topic when they are sensitive about it.
You two are living a dream!!! My husband and I are working hard to do the same one day. Most likely right after my husband retires from his job. Great job with everything!!!
holy crap that is a good deal. i paid [ paying] that for my house and it's only moved about inches in 20 years.and that's not a good thing. lol. you can go any place and still be home.the cost of an RV that size new is like , a million. and they are made of plastic and paper. and they depreciate by half as soon as you sign the check. working hard is it's own best pay off. if some call you rich, then i say congratulations. kids today need to see more people like yourself. "rich" can be at any income bracket. but it is better earned.
Whoever said this was easy, was an idiot. In your build video you displayed amazing craftsmanship and engineering skills. It's obvious your skill must come from your profession. For 80.000 this was phenomenal. Considering the engine and kitchen extras you could have done it for around 55.000€ which is crazy for a 4 star hotel on wheels.
An overall investment of ~80k Euro? That’s an amazing accomplishment for having a rolling villa! Bravo! It does certainly qualify as ‘rich’ regarding experiences, future fun, and opportunities. One question; what is the MPG or Liters per 100 km? The continued maintenance may also be an interesting topic - everything that moves usually shakes a couple of things loose. You’re clearly a very talented builder - I wonder how busy the bus will keep you. Thank you for sharing your rolling home!
Look at all the luxury buses they are showing here on youtube. They cost millions and most of them are not that cosy. And i bet some don't even have the build quality.
I love it when I watch something and someone suddenly says something in another language.... and I can understand it! Me speaking Afrikaans but able to understand Dutch is awesome. Welgedaan met die bus, dit is manjifiek!
That's not that bad at all. Especially if you wouldn't happen to have bad luck with the engine. Considering how much new bigger RV's cost here in Europe. I'd most definitely have something like that compared to new RV. Of course there's tons of work involved. But overall, good job. I'm not an RV guy, but really enjoyed to watch these few episodes.
That is one serous machine for $90k. A basic motorhome in the US will cost that (cheapest) and not near the quality of the bus. You did a great job on that one my friend! ATB and Happy Travel!
When you say you got a new licence, does that mean you changed the vehicles classification with the dept of motor vehicles, from lots of passengers to RV? or did you have to upgrade your driving licence to a commercial licence owing to the size of the vehicle? Fantastic build, well done.
Yes, it is all about the licence of the vehicle. Not to an RV, but from lots of passengers to less passengers. 😊 It is still a bus, but it went from a total of 90 persons to 11 (=number of seats). Everything above 9 is a bus over here. There is no such thing as a 'commercial licence'. If you have, like me, a bus drivers licence, you can drive it. If you would take 2 seats out (and re-register), it would become a truck, and you would need that licence. Oh and THEN you could even choose to make it into an RV. Thank you! Regards from the Netherlands!
Thank you for that wonderful tour. My dad's family emigrated to Canada from Amstelveen, and I think I am the only one who hasn't been back to visit :-( Someday...
That's nice. Maybe you are interested in seeing more footage of the Amstelveen-part then. It is here in my other channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_mIGxuZSLUo.html
@@forkless Probably x-ray'd. decked, honed, new pistons, rods, rings, gaskets, various plugs, pumps, belts, gears and all balanced. Basically a new engine and likely with a similar warranty.
You have made a fantastic job of your Bus! Now it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labours. Pay no heed to the ignorant comments made about your personal wealth (or lack of it now the bus is finished!). Like everyone else you have the freedom to do whatever you want with your money. Enjoy your wonderful home on wheels! Looking forward to the travels of 2020.
80K€ for everything was well worth it u have a complete home on wheels that engine costing 20k was a bummer tho Assuming the engine was fine, it would cost 60K€ if I had the money to do it I would, im very young maybe in the future from a great inspiration video. I advise you to do like other people said and installing solar, it can be expensive but then u can go completly offgrid. Also talking about on the topic of eletric you said the batterys hold for 5 days but how much time to charge ?
Before my wife died , she thought me mad that I'd pick up shells , rocks or even wave beaten broken beer bottle made smooth on our walks along the beach or on hikes . She'd say I was a magpie bird , in a different life . Then she left me . Got breast cancer , and once she asked if I could drive her to hospital . She opened the ash tray and found the shells , rocks and bottles made smooth from the waves . And I could tell her the story of the day from each one , she would hold one up and ask . She was surprised I could remember the clothes she was wearing . I don't care of the price of your bus , to watch the adventures of you on the bus , in life , as long as you really live . 😀 is for me . Just be fake be real . And I'll be happy .
It shows character and humor, and then the poem at the end ... a very enjoyable video from beginning to end. Thank you so much for inspiring on many levels!
I would say that sounds like great value for the size and how well the quality turned out to be. And now the reliability should be quite good as well for years to come.
In AUD that works out at about $130k - pretty good value considering I paid $125k for an old Greyhound bus converted - had the same sort of fit-out as yours, not quite as good as your but that was 2005. Wonderful time, easy to drive, had trailer with 4WD on it 26tonnes all up. Enjoy it, you worked hard for it, it will last the rest of your lifetime. About 4-5 kms to litre
Great videos. Seems like a reasonable price for such a project. Added to all that you live in a beautiful country even though it’s small. I often visit in my motorhome and I find most Dutch people, especially people who enjoy camping and travelling to be very friendly. Keep well and travel safely.
I'm from Poland. 80k euro. It's a 3-rooms flat in my small town. But, I still dream about my double decker bus RV :D mayby, I win eurojackpot.:) You must arrive to Poland! :D
Amazing, half way through that video when you were running over the 'comments' I was thinking what the poetry said at the end........its interesting for people wanting to follow suit to see how much they may be able to do a conversion for, but calling you rich is such a silly statement regarding money. You have a beautifully built 'hotel quality' motorhome, you can go wherever you wish in the world, you have a loving family around you, and lots of great friends..........'Rich' doesn't come in money form.......its comes in the form of happiness.........you've done a great job, thanks for sharing :-)
When you launch the 1° video I loved it. I wished i could do the same. If you consider that a motorhome, Hymer Eriba or an Adria Sonic costs more than 130,000€ and have half the space. 80,000€ is not for everyone. But I even consider that it was reasonably priced. Thank you for sharing the price.
I have been keeping up with your project! It is amazing! I live in Virginia (USA). My brother and I own a 37' Bounder rear-engine pusher with two slide outs. I personally own a 50' motor vessel. So I love the land and water. You poem touched me enough to write it down. I hope you'll allow me permission to recite it to friends/family as it not only pertains to camping but boating as well. Thank you and all the best and happy travels. BTW - You need to ship her to the USA and tour America!
I love water too. I once owned a boat, a genuine Bayliner, and it might even become a new project of mine. Nice you like my poem - no need for my permission! 😊 Thank you. Touring America doesn't fit into our lives. As it is today we are too much tied to this place to travel for longer periods..
Thank you for sharing this with us. It’s brilliant and I think for what you have achieved with your bus is most excellent. Please continue to enjoy and maybe share the odd video with us
Not even that expensive honestly, if anyone with a decent job saved for a bit they could do it. People are just stupid... i could see myself doing this in a few years easily...
Indeed, if you don't over-consume (who needs a new smartphone every 2 years that costs a thousand or more in some cases?) and put money aside (invest it gainfully at best!)? Yeah, you can do something like that (especially if you don't have kids and other expensive hobbies!)
Great conversion. I have been following since the start. Do you need a HGV license there to drive it and do you have to have the 5 year medical test like here in the UK ? Otherwise you would loose the HGV license
Thanks for sharing the journey. I love the idea of a double decker bus although they are more common and probably easier to come by in Europe. I do worry about fitting it into our favorite camping spots which tend to have many trees so height might be an issue. I'm guessing that's around 15 meters long, I know large busses here tend to be about 45' and you are somewhat limited on what campsites they'll fit in.
I'm guessing you are in the US? Yes, they are more common over here, but nevertheless available over there. www.busesforsale.com/category/double-decker-buses Nooo... only 12 meters. Yes, the longer / taller you are, the more limited you are with parking. That goes for cars too.. 😊 We don't see it as a problem, as in the end you always find someplace to park..
I saw the "rich" comments, please people don't be jealous because it's makes you shameful, in my country we call it "short eye". Be good and encourage this man that works hard to build this amazing bus and bring you the video so we also can enjoy. I like you videos and astonished how good the bus build. Keep it and don't sell it.
WOW, here in the USA, that kind of RV would cost hundreds of thousands of $$. So, you did Great in my opinion. One part of the equation that people don't put a value to is the fact that you were the one making sure that the work was done correctly. So, great job and an enthusiastic thumbs up!!

As a Hollander who has never lived in Holland, still speak the language, this was epic for me. Born in South Africa to Dutch parents, now in America for 43 years!, I always wanted to see more of Holland, you showed me a small portion, thank you very much. Great conversion, the question is not what it cost you, but what would you sell it for?

Mooie bouw, veel mensen jaloers op, maar jullie kunnen er maximaal van genieten en als die motor niet vervangen hoefde te worden, ook heel gunstig geprijsd in vergelijking met een gewone camper.. Well done en geniet er van!
they all asked the wrong question 'what did it cost'. The important question is 'what is it worth (to you)'. Clearly the cost would not be negligible but one presumes far outweighed by what it is worth to your family. Kudos for answering the idiots. More kudos for the skills and hard work you invested into the project.
A lovely retirement for the bus !! You saved her from being scrapped and countless abusive drivers over her life. Its just a fantastic machine and you want to be well proud of yourself ! That bus was made with love and attention and that is priceless ! The engine replacement was a big unforeseen expense and it happened you got over it and better for it to happen during the build rather than out on your holidays !! I heard of a VW T5 van going cheap so I better get started ...!! Well done ! The times you have ahead will be priceless !! Brilliant Job !
My husband and I traveled throughout the US, first he was a truck driver and then 3 years ago we got a rv and drove throughout the southwest to Washington State. I’d love to travel Europe like this one day. Having a home that you can drive where you want is so much fun. Your bus is incredible!
One can only save money when they are rich Sir...it doesn't matter how little you saving, the fact you're able to save and work on your pet projects is a privilege most people don't have. Pay check to pay check isn't because people aren't working hard enough....not knocking you i love the bus just wish I was rich too I work and have worked hard and could never save to piss away 5000 on rust repair lo
I guess you are right. Me working a below average salary my whole life, living a modest life thinks that anyone can do this. But what is 'below average' here, can easily be considered rich in other countries, yes.
This country? Are we talking about the same? Over here 'average' is strictly defined as 'modaal inkomen' and is calculated by the government each year again: nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modaal_inkomen
@@Onrust1 yeah I was right your below average salary of 34 a year would not be enough to go buy a pet project and put 3 times the below average salary in a mobile home so you see your rich...there's nothing wrong with that...like I said I wish I was too ...I would spend over 70 thousand on a pet project too...
80k Euros is actually really cheap for an amazing RV like that. Now you only need to accumulate the skills to build this much by yourself over the course of 10 years and you could start building your own van
I've watched many of these conversion videos and I just always assume the entire task will cost 100K or 120K. 50k for a poor man's conversion, 70-80k If your lucky on a deal, 100k a modern conversion, something that'll actually replace a home off grid. If I wore to do something like this I'd personally would save up to 80-100k first. You may think that's expensive but that's cheaper than a home these days so I'd prefer that over a house.
That's a tax deductible main home in America. Rich is when you have more money you can throw away double what you spent on bus conversion and it didn't phase your accountants. He laughed at you He figured out away for a tax deduction.. Outstabding... RIGHT ON ,MAN. !!! I LOVE IT..
I followed the conversion of the bus way back. Half jokingly & half serious I said, if I were to be on a long space mission, I want you on board as life support systems engineer. Now, the world knows Elon Musk couldn't get his SpaceX Dragon's toilet to work in space - yikes!. They should taken you with them 🥰.
Gave bus! Leuke video. 😂
After seeing your first video I've seen so many videos of people converting things like old Mercedes vans into campers. So cool, the price your bus cost you to do this is such a bargain, plus you recycle a bus. Really I'd take 20,000 off the cost as that engine was not really planned for, I bet you've made lots of memory's going places in the bus. If you bought it already made it would be 300,000 easily I bet.
I don't understand people's obsession about the costs. How about what it provides: I'd rather KNOW the pleasure, enjoyment and fulfillment feeling it provides, especially after so much hard work. Awesome job mate, enjoy!
Some people are comparing this with a pre build motorhome. You cannot compare this at all. If you spend 80k on a motorhome you are good to go. If you spend 80k on a double decker you first spend months or years building it in which time you could actually earn more money. This sums up A LOT. So my guess is that this thing cost about the double as he could have earned money instead of spending time building it. If you count in two people, it adds up even more. Up to 150-200k is my guess... but in the end you pay for the thing you want. With money or time. Whatever fit's you best.
