How I bought a double decker bus and converted it in five years time into an RV. See how I did all that in 20 steps. I got a lot of questions about the bus, so I made a FAQ on my website. Read it here: sites.google.c...
We did a full interior tour of the bus, that video is here: • Double decker RV - ful...
If you want to know the cost of the whole project, that is in this video: • Double Decker RV - Sea...
More photos of the bus are to be found in this Google Photos folder:
goo.gl/photos/...
The plans of the bus are for free available in the 3D Warehouse of Sketchup at:
3dwarehouse.sk...

Only a handful of people around the world are willing to pay insane money to own these mammoth double-decker RVs. And when they do, they will buy brand new vehicles rather than spending $$$ on second or third hands.

Yeah, that's the trouble with retired equipment. It's usually in worse shape than the seller is aware of or cares to tell. Buying a used diesel, I'd always recommend a compression check. (Not just to see if they're equal, but also up to expected pressures.)

This is the Exact double decker I would do if I do a bus home conversion, but the best part is nearly falling out my bed when you mention the cost of the new engine to your Lobly Wife,lol. I figure that before I saw you said then I told my wife the cost of the new engin ,lol,,lol. I needed that lugh really bad to get through the rest of the video. gehehehehe. Of which I was thoroughly impressed. Great job.

Your bus is amazing. Are your housebatteries 12V or 24V? Do you use a 3-way Fridge? I see you have a gas stove, but did not see your gas locker? If so, which bottle sizes are you using? Does the diesel heater of the bus not work? I had to replace my gas heater with a diesel heater. I opted for what I could afford, as i am single, no kids, got an already converted Nissan Civilian. My mechanic told me the engine was well maintained over its lifespan of almost 30 years. After sinking more than i paid for into the bus I still need one more outsourced big job to be done.

Feel free to come back if you have any questions beyond that. I had to look up the Civilian, it was never sold over here. Nice little bus! I wish you all the luck with it!
@RVREVO
@RVREVO 3 года назад
@@Onrust1 the Nissan Civilian is a Japanese imported bus. Its relatively inexpensive to import vehicles in bulk to New Zealand new or used. This bus was already converrted 20 odd years ago. There are several models. Mine is based on the 1993 model and is called a Super Limousine in Japan. I had to get sliding windows installed on one side. New Zealand is subtropical and it gets quite muggy here. I also tow my RAV4 behind my bus. I park the bus anywhere where its allowed and drive my car to work. Sometimes I can park my bus just outside work. Saves the hassle of driving back to my campground

I never would have thought that this video would be good for a million views in under a week time!! Thank you so much, and in particular for all the kind words! In the replies to all of your questions I was so often repeating myself, that I made a FAQ in English. You can find it on my website here: sites.google.com/site/bigbuszz/faq---english Check out the FAQ if the answer on the question you might have is in there too. Some of the questions: - How much was the bus? And how much money did you put in? - What on earth gave you the idea to buy a bus? - How heavy is the bus now? How much weight did you add to it? Did you have to watch out for adding too much weight? - What's the fuel consumption? - You told you had an expert check the bus before you bought it. Didn't he say anything about the engine? Then how got it broken? - Why a double decker in the first place? - Who are you? Are you some kind of architect? How did you get the knowledge and experience to be able to build this? - What are your plans with it? Will you sell?

Fish who smokes Opium it took the man 5 years to convert this one bus, around 20 hours a week he said. Considering a normal workweek of about 40 hours, he might be able to pull of 3 busses in 4 years, with great planning and doing the right things at the right time. Since he will then do thisfull-time, income would be way too low considering the fact he only gets paid 3 times every 4 years. Though I do think he would love to make this his job!

I want to thank all of you for the lovely reactions! I'm very glad many people like what I did. Actually, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the attention; the video was viewed over 100.000 times in one single day, and I have been busy constantly, only answering all of your questions. The most asked question is 'how much did it cost?' This is a very difficult question, which I might once answer in a next video, but I will not answer directly. Sorry about that, I can imagine you would like to know. Just to give an idea: it was more than 50.000 euro, and less than 150.000 - of course apart from the hours I put in to it. Yes, that's a wide range, but for now you have to do with that, I hope you understand... You all have a nice day, I wish you the best!

Klara Arvidsson In the US, anyone with a “normal” drivers license is allowed to drive a vehicle up to 26000lbs (11793.4kg) GVWR for private use. This is thanks to lobbying from DIY moving companies many years ago such as U-Haul & Penske

Awesome job! This might be the best double decker conversion I've seen thus far. I wanted to convert one about 7 years ago but the most affordable Neoplan I found at the time was an '89 with the storage bottom floor (couldn't stand up straight without hitting my head) for $10k . All other Neoplans I found online where $70k - $500k and that's when the dream died. Now I'm thinking about converting a small (under 22ft long) shuttle bus instead. I would love to see another slow detailed walk through video of your masterpiece with you actually walking and talking it. I'd also like more details on the two door magnetic switch and any other DIY contraptions you came up with. Where's the other half of the ac units located btw?
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 7 лет назад
The use of the magnets is something I explain in my FAQ at sites.google.com/site/bigbuszz/faq---english The AC units are in the 'utility room' where the watertank is - the last 5 meters of the downstairs floor. They are only used when parked and the door has to be open. No, not quite ideal...

Rob Fraser ferry probably wouldn't charge you alot at all, my family once went to sweden on a ferry from Köln, Germany and our car got designated to the bus/truck level. We had a storage thing on the roof of our car (don't know how you call it in English) which made it higher than other cars. We did pay the normal price in spite of the designation of our car.

Rob Fraser and the carriages from france to the uk can also hold busses, I had a school trip to the UK in a bus, though it was only a single level bus. Coming off the train I do reckon I saw some double deckers there as well so I guess they fit too.

Your bus converversion is so amazing and so far the best that I have ever seen. The Laurel and Hardy parts brought tears of laughter LOL using them to take part is also just amazingly entertaining. I am 71 years old and I used to watch them whenever our TV worked. Just my opinion sure the new engine was expensive but to think you have a brand new power plant that is much more reliable - efficient and probably more powerful to me would be worth it. But of course I didn't have to pay for it. The outsourcing you did on the few things made perfectly good sense to me of course again I didn't have to pay for it. I could see myself purchasing a RV like yours if they were built here in the U.S. I don't lack the monies to purchase one, I just have not found one that is totally unique so different like the one you built. Most anyone that can afford a bus here in the states have a limited one to chose from and I want something unique like yours. Thank You so much for sharing you are one very gifted person. Your skills are second to no one else's I have seen. I own a boat building company and I know talent when I see it and I just have in your video. Cheers
