it's super common in Croatia and used to be a real big deal in mid 90s; it's called "Strauss torta" or Strauss cake, and is made by italian Algida or our own (biggest) ice cream manufacturer. there are a few differences I recall (since I haven't eaten it for at least 12yrs)-the center was a chocolate ice cream, surronded with a frame of, at best, bearable vanilla ice cream, buuut! there was whipped cream on the ribs and sides and crackly chocolate and chocolate sprinkles on top, and that was the best feature of the whole thing-the textural play between crunch and softness of the cake. oh yeah, there was some cocoa powder in there aswell. out of curiosity I checked how much it costs now, and it's very cheap-around 2 Euros for 500gm of product. but honestly, the whole trip and search and inbetween stops you made while looking for it where really fun (at least to watch!), and it kinda pays off, at least in my book. I also love how you edit this videos-you do have a good feeling for audio-video combinations, tempo and scene development, and using a better camera really payed off. the real winner here was the izakaya-it looks like a lovely place to wander to accidentally, and then becoming a regular guest. i love how you're mixing up conten on your channel, keep it coming!

Funny, in my country viennetta is so ‘normal’. When I was young we often ate it when we had dinner guests. But I need to say that the caramel version is much better, especially the biscuit inside.

Really cheaper in Europe. The interest of the thing is that the ice cream is less sweet than a lot of other brands, and the texture is very nice. So it was sold like an "adult ice cream" when I was a kid. So it was a very special treat. I definitly want to try again.

You're doing such a good job of picking musical tracks to create and capture the energy to drive the scenes forward (2:02 was a beautiful touch! 👏) and using a laid back style to critique the meal. While you may have added unintentional comedic touches with the "lay low in the bushes" effect to express your misgivings, and the focus shift to Fred to ever-so-slightly lower the volume on the Viennetta critique, I had to pause to crack up. And the cherry on top ... you gave us a stinger. This video was a pleasure to watch. I can feel that you take real pride in these short films, and this to me is the best of the bunch so far. Well done. 😊

This made me laugh! When I was a kid Vienetta was the cheap ice cream and we used to beg for Hagen Daaz (which we never got!)

It finally clicked in my mind the "Vienetta" of the 80s and 90s - the packaging really changed. I got duped in the 90's thinking it was going to be great...you are not alone...lol.

Germany here. I just checked. This frozen dairy dessert is still about 2 Euros which is a surprise as food prices have gone up so much lately. I used to love it as a kid, we would eat this for birthday parties or dessert on holidays. I haven't had it in many years. Also, my dearest June, we would love to have you over here.

Had a few times as a child I honestly don't remember the taste. I remember my mom yelling at my dad to stop as he was putting Hershey chocolate syrup on it that he was ruining it . You can definitely make it better and cheaper.

Watching this and seeing everyone walking around in their summer clothes is making me feel wistful that soon this season with fresh air and fruit will be over.

😫 oh no what has happened to one of my favorite childhood desserts?! I first had this in the 🇬🇧 it was like a treat. Every holiday gathering it was guaranteed to be on the table for dessert. It came in the vanilla flavor, also chocolate and my favorite mint. BUT I honestly have to say way more layers of thinly placed chocolate and ice cream. When you cut it with a knife you hear the frozen crunch. At the beginning of the adventure I kinda wanted to look for it myself but now I think I’ll pass so sad 😞 Maybe June can recreate it and make it dessert worthy?

I partly grew up in Sweden and I remember having this cake as a child and thinking it was the most lux dessert ever. As an adult, having moved back to Sweden after spending 20 years in California, it turns out that Viennetta is the absolute cheapest dessert you can buy here at a whopping 2 dollars. Sorry it was so expensive for you guys. Always fun to watch your adventures with food 💗

This is really interesting, because Viennetta ice cream cake (at least used to be) very cheap in my home country. Sometimes you could get one with 1 euro.

We have those everywhere in sweden and we have alot of different variations and flavors. We call them icecream cakes here and it was a staple everytime i went to my great grandma when i was young. Even today the all chocolate one is still my partners go to.

You are both right about the Viennetta dessert cake ! Its pricey . After I watched your,misadventures in finding the dessert cake.. I was lucky that my local Shoprite Supermarket had them The price was $5.39 but store had 90 cent. I happened to have $2 coupon so this dessert cake cost $2.49!! Without the discount I am not sure was it worth the price after tasting a slice...,Does not taste any Vanilla flavor .. I watched your misadventures and you guys found this dessert cake,,, I was skeptic about being bland until I've bought one myself... The price is too pricey for a dessert cake that had no flavor except for the chocolate pieces and its not that many...,It was really fun watching your search for Good Humor Viennetta dessert cake and to show us how hard to find one in the store ! I hope you both do more of these misadventures and wonderful videos in search of some thing good to try.. You guys was 100% perfect in describing this dessert cake and I totally agree ! I got $1 coupon from my Super Market so this dessert cake is acquired taste if you enjoy eating bland dessert cake !

I always forget how expensive stuff is where I live, cause a half decent, normal sized tub of ice cream will cost you at least $8...if it isn't on sale at least. I tend to wait for discounts or sales, but I'm sure if they sold Viennetta in Canada, I'm sure they'd charge like at least 12-15 bucks in stores near me.

Yup, that's Viennetta. Such a 90's thing here in Europe. Wonder if you would be able to find similarly imported Carte D'or ice cream there? Would be a similar experience texture wise (for the ice cream). Keen to see June's version of Viennetta ;)

Lol I haven’t heard of Vienetta for years. I’m sure in the 70’s and 80’s when we occasionally had it as a treat as it was expensive then too it didn’t have as many bad ingredients as today!!

It's funny, viennetta is really cheap here and it's a staple at every family gathering! It's not at all special for us, and it's so crazy that it's 8! dollars in New York. We also have caramel viennetta, it's amazing!

In Germany Viennetta cost around 3€ (~3,55$) and you can find them at almost every big supermarket. I loved this when I was a kid, but now it tastes kinda bland for me

I feel like the mint vienetta was my favorite thing as a kid in the early 90's, but now as an adult I'm not sure it that's because it looked cool as hell or because it actually tasted good.

Loved the videos. We have vienettas here sold under streets ice cream brand. Very very sweet but got a lot cheaper over the years here. Get a good vanilla ice cream, you guys in the USA have great options and buy ice magic. Do you have that over there? It’s a choc sauce that hardens over ice cream in a few seconds and you crack it with the back of your spoon.

Thanks for the recent Queens videos. I can't wait to try Izakaya. It's too bad that you could only find vienetta at the (not so) SuperFresh. Their freezer section is terrible and everything is somehow melty and freezer burned at the same time. If you were getting weird aromas it was probably from their freezer, not yours. But the best part of Good Humor was always buying it from the ice cream man anyway.

I feel so sorry for you both paying so much money for Vienatta. Here in Germany it cost around 3 bugs and it has a reason why it is so cheap. I know that in my childhood it was a thing, in the early 2000s, around Avril Lavigne, Eminem and Harry Potter. But I had not really seen in in the stores the last years. Maybe I have to pay attention more to this and when you upload a new video I will buy it and eat it and watch your content.

I'm from Vienna, Austria and I always thought this was an Austrian thing but apparently it's British. I used to eat it all the time as a child and recently had it again for the first time in years and it sucks so bad now. I don't know if it's just me but I think this used to be so different and so much better.
