Thanks Aaron, that really helped clear up a few things especially the moving of the Axes between photos.

Thank you! I am re-learning Sketchup after a few years away. These are very helpful getting up to date with 2021 version!!

I’ve only fooled with this on simple projects like garages.... what I do is take two tapes, strings (whatever) of the same length and attach them to the corners, stretch them out and where they meet I take a picture (note the height of camera) then with same strings or tapes go to opposite corner at same height and take picture. Usually works really well. Can you do a video pertaining to the scaling while using photo match. Thanks Aaron, as always.... awesome

Since COVID cancelled 3D Basecamp 2020, I didn't get to do my presentation on Matchphoto. This kinda worked out though: Sit in the peanut gallery during livestream and throw tips at Aaron, and he can get stuff out to the world. You covered a good chunk of what I had to go over in these two videos.

Thanks Aaron! One thing to note is it appears that the roof is slightly sloped towards the icicles which could be throwing to off slightly.

Axis info was very helpful. My problem is that sometime during drawing I inadvertently change something and my two or three match photos no longer line up when I go back to refer to them. Do I try to replace the axis or origin point or start all over again?

Worth mentioning, Aaron, that you also have to contend with inherent distortion in the image. As you move away from the image centre, the image starts to suffer from pincushion and barrel distortions that you need to ignore (or allow for). It is possible to correct these distortions in PS or similar but interestingly, SU says not to use edited photos. Any idea why that is?

I have had to correct some antique photos before importing into Sketchup because they were shot with a shifted lens in a large format camera. I think most cameras 100 years ago had bellows. I had to put back distortion that Sketchup was expecting?

It can interfere with the original camera lens' centre of vision - which SU uses to set up its internal VP geometry. Hence cropped pictures often fail etc.

Thanks for the video, it is really useful! I would have never have thought of the "move origin" tip! Although I would have push-pulled all the roof sides to the same amount (as you have done for the first two) before applying the second photo and trying to align it to the model. Well done @aaron dietzen!

That was a great video Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I'm an instructor and I've been teaching from home for 8 months now What I would like to do is create a background filter for my Zoom account. 🤪 To give the student something else to look at once a week at least. Could you show how you would set up something like this I would like to share how mine looks where can I send the photo

@@AaronMakingStuff Thank you so much for making that sound so simple. But what I was asking referring to is creating a room scene in SketchUp take a picture then use that as a background. All development would be in SketchUp

@@kpeel1357 Maybe I am just confused... Once you have made that model, just output as an image file and use it as your background... sorry if I am missing something...

Would nice if SU had a magnifying glass when aligning the axis. Like how ShareX works when you take a screenshot.
@Hapsard
@Hapsard 3 года назад
No magnifying glass, but you can use the scroll wheel +ctrl key (pc) to zoom in and out while alignment.

If you have a photo editor, such as photoshop, you can increase or decrease contrast or draw reference lines in a stand out color (more advanced method you can use Chanel’s etc) to greatly enhance edges. Save as a JPG (you will lose layers) To retain save first as PSD then as JPG. That way you can always go back and alter the PSD file.
