An early morning run out of Port Sulphur, Louisiana yielded an easy limit of speckled trout!
I had launched at the public ramp behind the school and made the run through No Man's Land to get onto the beach where brown shrimp were running.
A popping cork and double rig did the trick before the bite fizzled out and it was time to go looking for another great bite.
And why not? The wind had laid down and it was a beautiful morning, making it easy to run anywhere I wanted and catch speckled trout.
So I made the run across Grand Isle to Port Fourchon, where I was able to find a school of speckled trout that were unwilling to fully commit to a lure.
Finicky fish? No problem! That's what I specialize in.
With the aid of Humminbird electronics and years of experience throwing soft plastic lures I was able to polish off a limit of nice speckled trout.
So be sure to watch the entire video so you don't miss any important fishing tips and, if you loved the video, give it a thumbs up and subscribe so you don't miss the next one.
Thanks for watching, and tight lines!

Making a run from Port Sulphur all the way down to Grand Isle, wow?! Speaking of which, has much of anything opened back up since the hurricane? As always, THANK YOU for the incredibly informative videos! Ah, one last question, what's the secret sauce (scent) that you use, in order to get the fish to commit? Take care and tight lines.

lol glad you liked that I usually don't bring people because it's tough on the audio and makes editing a giant pain in the ass. I know other "RU-vidrs" do it but they don't put nearly as much effort as I do into editing. That and I just don't have time to take everyone fishing. I can't go outside without someone asking to take them fishing. lol Thanks anyway! (and thank you for watching)

@LAFishBlog

I was just switching things up when the bite would die down. That part of the video got cut in editing because the video was already so long. It's cool you noticed that.

Sometimes a slow steady retrieve gets more hookups out there. Don’t know what it is. I’ll get bit but a lot of short strikes jiggin then switch to steady and it’s just solid thumps and hookups after that.
@LAFishBlog
@LAFishBlog 3 года назад
That's true. Gotta change it up, but I think that school needed firing up. Once they did they were getting put in the boat. I'm not sure if I included it in the video or not, but I talked about what the trout were feeding on, or at least knowing what they were waiting to feed on would be nice because it would tell me more about what they're looking for and how they're gonna eat it. They were definitely moving around and were not staying in one spot. Sonar revealed that. So keeping them fired up is key. Otherwise you could see them following the lure. It was nuts.
@tylert0001
@tylert0001 3 года назад
@@LAFishBlog Cant beat those days, especially when you don’t have to fight the crowds too too bad. Once you get them fired up they’ll eat anything. Try changing colors when the bite slows. Or dip the tail in spike it. It can usually get them going again for a little bit.
@tylert0001
@tylert0001 3 года назад
@@LAFishBlog and they’re probably still on shrimp. They eat alot of pogies and mullet too. Usually just switch between something like shrimp creole, magneto, and green hornet. Something like that. @@garybarrere7552 Well, like I mentioned on the other video, I have a detailed guide about this that I had linked up. But you made a point of saying that you don't like reading and won't read the guide I made (which is exactly what you're doing here in the comments). And, if you had read the guide, then you'd know a seven foot rod is horrible for jigging speckled trout. That's why I write the guides, because there's so much context that would be missing from a conversation in RU-vid comments: www.lafishblog.com/best-tackle-for-jigging-speckled-trout/ I boat flip bass that big and bigger regularly, so maybe you did something to damage that rod and it broke, or you were high sticking it or it was just made on a Friday. Anyway, thanks for watching., and hope you have better luck with your rods. Tight lines.

That’s a run, sir! How ironic, was talking to a buddy recently about making a trip down that way, I looked at same launch point and same route area to run down there. Only thing is, my little skiff don’t do 68mph, lol! I still would love to make that trip though! Beautiful trout! If you don’t mind me asking, do you launch off the left most side from there or do you line up with the gravel road that tops the levee there, I’ve seen people launch both ways there. No matter which way, everyone has their rear axle on truck in the water, that’s what I noticed anyway. And if you’d prefer not to say, I get that too! Thanks.
@LAFishBlog
@LAFishBlog 3 года назад
I launched off the left side. FWIW, my boat doesn't do 68mph, and in my flatboat I'll run just as far to find redfish and that boat cruises at 25mph. It's the determination, not the outboard. But the outboard does make it easier. LOL

I'll also set a $100 bill on fire if it means finding a great trout bite. lol

@@LAFishBlog hey, thanks for the feed back. Hope to cross paths with ya one day out there, wherever there is. I agree about the $100, I’m learning a completely different style of fishing than what I grew up on and in a completely new estuary. Great video, I'm fishing tomorrow and I made a couple double rigs. I fish Port Sulphur all the time but I never go out that far. Were you out there by Cat Bay, Bay Ronquille, and Bay Long? Also, what is a "tide line"? Is that the thing that looks like an oil slick? I never knew what that was
@LAFishBlog
@LAFishBlog 3 года назад
Great question, thanks for asking it. I have many reasons for not sharing exact fishing spots, many ranging from not pissing off other people in the fishing community to maintaining good operational security. But my chief reason is that doing so will not help you catch fish. What if you went to the exact spots I fished in this video and didn't catch anything? What would you do then? I have something better than fishing spots, and that's a breakdown of the exact process I use to find and catch fish from scratch, most of which is laid out very plainly (with instructor support from myself) inside Inshore Fishing 101. IF101 is one of many courses inside my LAFB Elite membership and one part of the course is dedicated to explaining what tidelines are (they are basically tidal highways bait use to travel) and how to locate them *before* your fishing trip, so you know exactly where to go and what to do if fish aren't at a particular spot. You can learn more about LAFB Elite at this information page: www.lafbelite.com/join-lafb-elite/ Thanks for watching.

@@LAFishBlog Yeah, I'm a member of LAFB Elite and I've done all your courses and I get it and I know the futility of sharing exact spots, which is why I'm not asking for that reason. I'm just trying to learn more about that area because I don't go out that far usually and everything way out there by those islands is really spread out.I like fishing by rock walls but I've never seen those out there.
