It was a reboot of the 1977 game Shoot for the Stars. The difference between Shoot for the Stars and Double Talk is the first one where both teams alternate turns playing for cash in the regular game as they had 24 boxes with different cash value and 4 boxes has a star hidden to risk any or all of their cash with a bankroll starting at $100 and Double Talk is both teams plays each two rounds to score points.
I was actually on this Game Show with Clifton Davis and Ilene Graff--they were both very kind and gracious people. Henry Polic was a total crack up. I had a ball and won a $1000 and some really good prizes. Nothing huge but I'm glad I did it.
He was just so-so as a host, though he was very friendly. And I don't blame Bob Stewart Productions for giving him a shot at hosting this show, since Bill Cullen was no longer available.
I would've gone with John Davidson, Bob Goen, Kevin O'Connell or Marc Summers personally but he was still pretty good. Why wasn't Cullen available? He wasn't doing anything at the time.
Yep, and during the 1985-86 season, Mr. Belvedere acted as the gatekeeper between "Diff'rent Strokes" (which during its 8th and final season at the time, defected over from NBC to ABC) and Webster.
Yep, b/c this was one of the 1st episodes to employ the "stop from further scoring" rule as well as lowering the number of puzzles to play for the Jackpot Puzzle from 4 to 3.
Ironically both Henry Polic II's and Howard Morton's sitcoms in "Webster" and "Gimme a Break!" aired back-to-back weekdays in my local area in Chicago from 2006-fall 2008.
whoops, I meant to say that this was one of the 1st episodes to change the rules from allowing the opoosing team to "stop from further scoring and ending the round" to just "stealing 5 points and forfeiting a team the chance at the Jackpot Puzzle" rule.
With the exception of Christine Tudor from the ABC soap opera Loving, all the celebrities on Double Talk have been guests on the '80s version of Pyramid. And I don't think that some of the soap stars who appeared on the Battle of the ABC Soaps weeks (which was the forerunner to the Battle of the CBS Soaps on the $25,000 Pyramid) appeared on Pyramid before that either.
Wouldn't say "no-name" he played a ton of one-offs and a re-occuring role on Webster and he was a celebrity player on a ton of game shows, mostly pyramid.
