Here's new guitar based on a regular three string guitar tuned GDG, but with octave pair strings, similar to a 12 string guitar or mandolin. The result is a really full, chimey sound. There's a lot more "cut" to the top end with the top string being an octave higher than usual. I find it's best played using a plectrum to get the most from these paired strings. I've arranged the strings in conventional 12 string fashion, with the high octave strings being the first ones struck on a downstroke - Rickenbacker installs the octave strings on their 12 strings the other way round, so that the bass strings are struck first on downstroke.
Anyhow, I think the resulting sound is very different to most other cigar box guitars, but plays pretty much as a regular 3 string guitar, you just need to adjust your playing to get the most out of this unique sound.
