Apologies for a few glitches in the video this week. It seems my computer was low on memory and it froze a few times during the export! I ran out of time to re export it though so I’ll have that sorted for the next video 😀

Resting HR such a big indicator of health/fitness. Having contracted pneumonia in January it took me 3 1/2 months for my resting HR to return to normal, was elevated by 10-15 bpm.

Glad to hear it’s returned to normal! A very similar experience to me, mine has only just got back to normal now after a February virus! Amazing how long these things take to get out of our system!

@@TheFODRunner also amazing how watch data can be so accurate at picking up HR/stress levels. Was basically telling me my body was totally knackered but felt absolutely fine in day to day life. Illness certainly lingers longer than people think but only really notice it when exerting the body otherwise you’d think you’re back to normal.

I'm in the race as well. Good luck mate. I will be starting later than you and finishing much later. I entered last year in the super early bird release. Was still called the Asics 10k back then. No chance of a PB but happy with how its going. After a bad year (2023) and a very slow Vitality 10K I should knock off 15 minutes or so. 5 weeks left!!

Just checked email from last July and it was the Super Early Bird. i was keen but its sold out now so probably the way to do it.

Very impressive stuff, especially if you consider 5.27 mile pace is quicker than recent 5 mile race.

You’re in shape. Feels good when the heart rate is low and you feel strong in the threshold zone. I’m finally back in the same position again but training for a 5k, so about to drop the mileage and increase the VO2Max and some all out anaerobic sessions. I’ll do some but less threshold than you but I’m not focused on a 10k unlike you!

Awesome!! Glad to hear you’re in good shape too 👊 I’m using these first 10 weeks to get this bigger threshold volume in, to get me strong. Then I’ve got some races in August I really want to hit hard so I’ll sharpen up for those like yourself… shorter workouts, sharper paces 👊

Enjoyed watching. Quick question regarding threshold. How are you calculating that? Is it based on heart rate? And if so could you break it down for us please? I’m interested in threshold training but familiar with how it works in practice. Thank you.

Thanks. So for me I go based on HR and also my perceived effort. So I know that roughly the top end of zone 2 (moderate) and bottom of zone 3 (where I try to run my marathons in) is where my first aerobic threshold is (LT1), so thats where I shoot for my morning sesh. The evening sesh I purely go by effort and just think to myself on a normal session day, I would push hard, so on the evening session during double threshold, I aim for that but then just take the edge off it a bit so I keep it a bit more conservative. Basically, my thought process throughout each workout is to keep calm and take the edge of things so that I dont overcook it
