I am a runner based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, UK and love capturing my races / training runs / holiday runs on film! Join me whilst I go through various training plans training for 10ks, half marathons and full marathons! Road or trail, you'll find it all here!
Great Video! Thoughts on these as a Marathon shoe, I need to get a good time in Chicago and I'm tempted by these, but everyone keeps saying not for a Marathon as they are firm and over 26 miles they would become very uncomfortable. In terms of comfort how do they compare with the AF3, I'm a forefoot striker looking to run sub 2:55 in Chicago.
I swear by them… I used them for my marathon and loved them…. But yes they’re firmer than the AF3… you’ll load the pods with good force if you’re a forefoot striker so if you prefer something a bit softer then the AF3 would be better
Why this obsession with timing everything? Even the warmup is "on the watch". Why can't you just be satisfied with putting in the effort and accepting that training performances will be up and down, especially for those runners who live in the real world -ie jobs, families etc. The only judge of fitness is race performance - and even then time is only one measure of success - and not the most important. Beating people is what the sport is all about.
I do accept that Mark... I am however allowed to question how or why I may or may not feel good/bad that day... don't we all? I appreciate it may not be how you do things... and as runners go, especially in races, I think I run much more to "feel" than many others... all my lap splits are off and I race to feel, so I often get no live data bar the odd HR update. Not to mention that fact that I dont even look at my watch on my easy days, I just use it to track how long i've been out there for, as well as the moderate days! But I can appreciate that the snippet of the week you all see is the session so judgements will be made based on that....
Listening to your commentary, I think you already know the answers to your questions but the vlog is a great way of bashing those ideas out. Whether you call them matches burned, or spoons, sounds like with the sore throat and going deep at Frampton, you went a bit more into your energy than you'd planned. No need to panic though, your strength will come through again.
Yeah, I often use these training vlogs as a bit of a sounding board…. I know inside what’s wrong but I often need to say the words out loud to accept what I’m saying, if that makes sense? Feeling fresher today so all being well I’ll have a smaller week this week and sharpen up
I am a heavy lifter (100 kg). Didnt like gel nimbus 25 -since it was recommended for heavier guys- and sold it. Bought this one. Doing majority of my runs in Superblast. This will be my easy day + walking shoe. Do you think this could be used daily for walking (outside, gym etc.)?
Andy, I'm really enjoying your post marathon journey. I'm struggling to find any form over 5k or 10k and this is giving me inspiration! Good luck at the Saucony 10k, looking forward to seeing how you get on!!!
Don't be too hard on yourself Andy, I'm sure the race is still in your legs and you've been fighting off a lurgy. Your in great shape, an easier week next week will see you come good for your goal 10k 👍
Yeah I knew the race was most of the issue…. And I’m using to feeling a bit flat on sessions post race… but this one I honestly felt particularly off, legs shaking in the strides like I’d had an adrenaline surge, it was very odd! Feeling better now though, hopefully over it 👊
That’s a very hard session after running a 10k, not surprised you didn’t feel at your best. Just try and rest up before your target race and you will probably surprise yourself
I’m a bit new to the running world. But I went to my local running store and did a test run, where the NB4 turned out to be the shoe for me according to them. This is because I’m a heel striker and I have noticed that you are not. Could this be the reason why the shoe doesn’t fit you that well?
Welcome to the running world! To be honest, I’ve had all the versions and some worked well, others not so much, it’s not the fact that I’m not a heel striker, it’s more a case that it’s become very much an easy plodding shoe now and lost its versatility from v3…. And as I do a range of paces in my training I have less use for it now…. Plus the shoes that I tend to easy run in are more enjoyable than this one now
You should look at the kendal mint refillable gels, I loved maurten but find these really good, the caffeine version don't taste as chemically as the maurten
The year started off on track and I was on target to get my goals. I noticed though I wasn't running very well though and something wasn't right. sure enough, a medical issue popped up unrelated to the fact that I run. Still a little unsure of the extent of it but for the short term my racing season is over. So the new goal is to figure out how to get back out there and resolve it. Naturally not the way I was hoping for 2024 to go. Love your channel and watching you train and your dedication makes me want to get out there. Keep it up and I am rooting for you from the other side of the "pond".
I think you’re doing great. Your channel has a good variety of different things not me personally. I’m not hitting any of the goals. Finances fall apart. Had to start working two jobs working two jobs caused an injury cause I have to hold through somebody’s porch so running was not I’m just getting back. Thanks though, I got a couple big graces pretty rough here but we’re turning around really appreciate it
Should have added that I am aged 64, weigh 95kgs and stand 6'4" tall with size 13 (UK) feet. Same challenge as you with finding shoes from some manufacturers
Already on the second injury this year. At the same time last year IT BAND, killed me. (1.5months without running) Now the same thing, but taking rest immediately so i could continue after 1 week of rest instead of 1 month
Preaching to the choir. I've been having secondary injuries after a major one that's still giving me issues last July. Right now the only goal is to just hang on
@TheFODRunner ....just two more remarks. shoe review channels sooner or later dry out and get extremely boring....., you could take any of those kinds of channels. In reality they don`t have any value, they are just the personal opinions of a random runner, zero connection to myself , my wishes and my needs for running shoes. At best they are some fun interruptions of my recovery time between runs. Your channel tells a story, a story of a real person, who runs as an important hobby, and we all can find similarities and differences to our own story. It always stays fresh and interesting, because nobody knows, what the future brings. Shoe reviews are just some fillers between the chapters of the story....just my 2 cent .....one for myself and goal setting important aspect. Some 40 years ago i made a wish ( it is not a goal).....i want to run for the last time in my live three days before i die.....this means i was pretty healthy til the very end, and i fullfilled my lifelong runners life successfully, without having to suffer through long years of bad health ........and as long as i mamage to run at least every 3 days i am safe
I was surprised to hear the shoe reviews are bigger. I never watch those, here or elsewhere. Love the running content. Glad your are continuing with that also.
Aimed for 1:33 HM, 42 for 10k and 20 for 5k. Went sub 20 for 5k, ran 1:33:45 for HM and no 10ks so far. All to build enough base to tackle marathons eventually
I think I said sub 1:30 half, sub 20 5k and run 50k Was on track to achieve all of them but decided to concentrate on a new goal of getting plantar fasciitus and peroneal tendonitis ☑️ as well as the 2 months without running ☑️
3 goals this year: run my first HM. ✅I’ve run 2. Run a Sub 45min 10k in a race. ✅Ran 43:34 at undulating 2 castles. Do more S&C to avoid injury. 🤔 less good but currently injury free! You’ve smashed the channel goals btw - great content - really enjoy it, thanks Andy!
i try to avoid long terms goals. I must admit, i still dream up crazy stuff in my head, but when i wake up in the morning, everything is pretty simple,, just run today, stay healthy, stay happy, keep your balance, eat well, sleep well run well.......so far, this year is going great

Thank you for my morning laugh. I would kill to run in 67° with only 67% humidity these days and no sun. The 5K I'm doing tomorrow morning is projecting a temperature of 84° with 90 plus percent humidity and full sun. Florida people problems.😂
Man you are amazing dude. I have a few freinds that are that fast, but I have always been around 40 minutes on my 10k. Great thing about racing is there are always more chances available.
Nice. My wife is training for Chicago. She's been trying out the Jack Daniels 2Q program, and started training back in April (for a 26-week program). Her previous marathon used a program from a guy called Tom Fleming that was also 26 weeks, and worked pretty well I thought. 26 weeks starts to seem fairly lengthy compared with most blocks I hear of, but we've found they're great to ease into the marathon. They also tend to incorporate 10k races and half marathons into the block.
Nice! Yes the first phase of those longer plans tend to be laying the foundation ready for the longer work... its a slow and steady build that, if the athelte can stay injury free, can be really beneficial!
We have to try things hey, to see what works and what doesn't ❤. Well done on obtaining your goal for the 1st mile and for finishing the race in a very decent time 🎉
I hadn’t planned too, but I’m happy too! I don’t know London too well so don’t know the best spots to meet post race…. I’ll be hanging around for a couple of hours though before heading home
Great video! Also running Abingdon in October. I have two 10Ks coming up (local running club this Sunday then Saucony London 10K) at which I'l try to PB and hit sub45. Once I've done that (fingers crossed) I'll start the training block for Abingdon. I ran Brighton in 3:54 in April, so will be hoping to improve on that and have another marathon PB this year. Secretly aiming for sub3:45!
Just needed to Say Andy that the sound quality on your post (when you are not out in the rain) is always clear with pleny of volume .. I know its off topic .. but something which is often overlooked .
this sounds like kind of a speedy marathon prep. It will be very interesting to see, how it works out........Newport 2025 2:35 is the writing on the wall.....it will be all about staying healthy over the winter and not getting any cold or other infections. Enjoy the speed summer finale
hi I'm so glade i found you who has the same shape and foot size of me. ill be watching with interest your video for sure thanks !!!! i have such difficulty finding my best shoes, i spent so much money those past several years to have never found really my best nor one pair that i can believe to be my lover... yep, that bed of a runner's life. so much mileage but with such bad luck finding what fits me best. Since the shoe companies doesnt really makes US13.5 size, to me its that alway compromising situation between US13 and US14... either too small or too big....
