A quick overview of how the 3.1 turbo engine was built on my Z24 Cavalier. Thanks to Dan’s Custom Projects and WOT Tech for all the help over the years!!
Great job on an Old favorite.. I used to love my Z24... It's probably my 3rd favorite car that I owned.. I am 50 so I have had some different cars over the years and this is still one of my Favorites..
Thanks! It was good for a few years but unfortunately piston #5 let go in August. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z1NLJDgYJQw.htmlsi=vQxxjpBV-BTtQAtz
I never thought they’d be hard to find or the crazy prices people are asking now. In my part of the world, most of the surviving cars are convertibles that didn’t get driven on the salt covered winter roads. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks! There’s faster ones out there with 3400 turbo and 3800 turbo engines but putting it to the ground is hard enough with what I have. I did weigh the car last fall and it was just over 2900 lbs with me and 1/2 tank of fuel.
I had a 91 5 speed and loved that car , in mid nineties when i purchased the car , i only changed the exhaust to 2 1/4 pipe with borla muffler ,bosh wires and plugs , k/n air filter , racing clutch and chipped .... that car was a weapon for what it was ... drove it like i had stolen it and raced who wanted ... i did race a eagle talon turbo on the highway and gapped him .. the gear box was not a great design with the same diff pin as in the 2.0 trans . I blew a few differentials when i had the car but it was for sure more due to my abuse to it. it was a great car for the money and would love to find one again because i kicked my self so many times after for selling it !!!! nice video and brings back a few memories ... im in st johns nl and its rear to even see one around .
That’s awesome! Very few of them left in Ontario as well. Mostly convertibles because they didn’t see as much of the winter road salt and rust away to nothing. Thanks for watching!!
That was the second car I ever owned.. I am 50 now, But OMG this brings me right back to being 19 years old. I had the 2.8L but I loved her.. I had a Blue one, I forget what year she was, But I know I had the 2.8L and I used to beat the ever loving shite out of that car.. I'd do 180 Emergency breaker's and nail it and just smoke the wheels.. But what was crazy is the cars held up to the beating... I know everyone say's this but they don't make cars like they used too.. Things were a lot simpler.. Great job, love these cars...
Thanks!! You and I are right in same age bracket as well! Many guys our age have some great memories of these cars and I get lots of guys commenting on it when I take it out. Thanks!!
Still own my 87 Z24 notch back with the full aero package even the whale tail spoiler, 5 spd. bought it new only mod is 16 in wheels from a GTU Beretta . Runs great air blows cold , about 123000 mi.
Great job im in the process of building a 3.1 turbo McLaren engine for my 88z24 5speed i love the tricks you've done to strengthen and improve your engine I'm going with the whole set ex35 turbo right now I'm getting the flange adapter situated I'm also torn on the clutch not sure if I should go with the centerforce that they have out or maybe you know something better I'll be picking your brain if you don't mind LOL I've had my car since I was 17 back in 97 we've been through a lot together and worn tons of races back in the day but now these cars are just getting faster and faster and I'd like to be able to pull up next to a Honda Accord and not fear it LOL
Awesome! I’ve had no luck with Centerforce clutches in my car. I’ve had more clutches than I care to admit but currently using a 6 puck ceramic from GripForce. Very good price and still holds. I didn’t use their throw out bearing though. Felt cheap and didn’t fit properly. Thanks for watching!!
How much boost your running i always liked that motor over the 2.8 nice build i like your out of the box style thinking for that intake design Keep up the good work
11-12 pounds. Depends on the outside air temperature since it’s running on an open loop boost control. MS2 isn’t very good at closed loop. I tried it for a while but just too difficult to get it right.
Do you have the part number for the timing chain? I can't seem to find the double roller timing kit under any searches and was under the impression they didnt make it any more.
@@KingalexanderB2010 if your engine is stock compression and not turbo or supercharged I’d stick with the stock heat range for spark plugs like the NGK TR4. No advantage to running a colder plug if it’s stock. Thanks again!
Short answer is no. Everything was custom built. I had the turbo flange welded to the stock crossover pipe but with the TO4E turbo it hit the transmission mount so I ended up trimming it until I had enough clearance. My original TO4B turbo fit better but was smaller. Thanks!
