@@thana7179 yes but the monobob broke our winningstreak today 😢 I was so hoping we'd win all the games on the ice-channel! hope Friedrich and Lochner can make up for that tomorrow
"Oh, honey, I'm so glad you're home! Robert and I were just ... uh ... practicing the new 2 man luge ... right, Robert?" An Olympic winter sport is thereby born when a lie gets outta hand.
@Natalia Ryzak yeah it was fun, I was a better athlete than most, but still wasn't good enough. The best part was the second time I tried out was in Lake Placid NY which was a place I went camping alot when I was a kid as well as being a winter Olympics site more than once.
@@lancelotkillz you obviously don't know anything about the Luge. I suggest you try it, or at the very least google it so you understand it. It's not as easy as it looks.
@@lancelotkillz If you just ride on it and do nothing else, you'll crash out 10 seconds in. It requires some crazy cornering techniques. Quite dangerous too.
Vox actually made a video about the hidden dangers of sledding sports. I do recommend checking it out, they’re surprisingly deadly (and not for the reasons you’d expect) edit: found it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0iaj5966HV4.html
Olympic luge tracks must be insanely expensive. It's a mile of track made of reinforced concrete, fully refrigerated along the entire length and width, and covered to protect it from precipitation.
@@chairwood I could see that you may be right I may have chosen poor wording they compete indirectly in how much they keep alternatives being sought outside of brand. I had it in my mind the impression they are under the same larger entity I didn'tverify. If they aren't you are definitely right my analogy is bad
Lol. My husband and I have been watching the winter Olympics asking out loud 'who would wanna do xx sport' or 'who thought this would be fun?'. Most recent was cross country skiing. Everyone looked wrecked. Did not look fun at all.
@@iadtag1853 Nah man, each micromovement will have few episode worth of backstory and monologue! and the tricky ones will even have unique names and history attach to it.
Titled "Let's Go, Girls' Double Luge", it basically is about two girls luge together and being so yuri and shit. But in the end, one says "hey I really love our coach" and the other one goes "that guy in the boys luge team is actually my boyfriend".
Yes, that is why it must be difficult for the guy on the bottom because he cannot really see where they are going. Plus he has not head support so he must have a very strong neck to withstand the turns at that speed.
I remember those goofy cone head helmets from the 76' Innsbruck Games. I was just a kid at the time, but I thought those helmets looked down-right ridiculous!
I’m sorry but all of those quotes can be taken out of context 😂 “Being a bottom man” “Seeing a curve I can’t do anything” “Wanna go together?” “I rely on his head movement” Or something similar hahaha
A lot of the stuff covered is just common sense. Did you really have to inform us that those German helmets were used for aerodynamics? Just looking at the shape tells us that...
And here is what that info build up to but that you missed because you went into the comments to flash how genius hearing the info made you feel about yourself: This aerodynamic feature proved to give the team such an edge over the competition that it got banned. You're welcome.
@@WormholeJim your welcome what, trying to be a smart ass? The question was why the German team wore the helmets. Nothing about the consequences about the helmet.
Well, doubles doesn't have gender restrictions, so they could mix (or just have two women). Guess for various reasons it's advantageous having two men though.
It must be difficult for the bottom guy because he has no rest for his head. He needs very strong neck muscles, especially to withstand the turns at that speed. Plus he cannot really see where they are going.
Reading about people grabbing multi-figures monthly as income in investments even in this crazy days in the market, any pointers on how to make substantial progress in earnings?would be appreciated,
You make it seem unreal to make up to that as a passive income annually, when it’s clearly possible. I have made over 1Hunnid thousand dollars from January till now with no joke game plan. She’s a masterpiece and her name is Eliana Brooklyn.😁
@@aetherguy881 Imagine having to run with a rifle on your back. That would be draining. I suppose they could bike it. But to make it more similar, it would be more or less like skateboard and then shoot.
You have to be a little bit of a suicidal maniac to do this, ESPECIALLY on the bottom. Though, judging by their sharp S's , I'd say they probably switch who's the bottom.... 😉
You'd think "Cheddar" would cover the Annual Cheese Rolling Competition. Chasing a ring of cheese down a hill - broken arms, broken legs, marriage proposals, it's got it all.
Wind resistance has a lot to do with it. So if you are a woman luge competitor, it is best if you are flat-chested. If you are a male luge competitor, it is best if you are not particularly "well endowed", so to speak. If you are male and well-endowed, then it is imperative that you remain unaroused.
The greatest luger of all time, Georg Hackl was known as "The Flying Sausage" and was kind of chubby. I can't see the size of someone's junk making any difference.
3:30 This is confusing. The cause for the crash doesn't match the apparent cause portrayed by the video. He crashed due to someone else's mistake, not slight movement.
Speed skating to me is the Top tier Winter Olympic sport. It's Elegant, it's strong, it's precise, it's fast, and simply perfection. Also the athletes physiques develop so beautifully.
because womens doubles luge only became an official sport in the past 3 years and isn't its own olympic discipline yet. (will be in 2026!!) Thats why all the photos of womens doubles luge were in bibs from Lausanne 2020, the youth Olympics where womens doubles debuted.
