I'm so inspired with his temperament; it's cool , firm and resolute. Very proud that he choose what his spirit needed over money. He didn't sell his soul for money. He loved his craft but himself; sanity and self respect more. Bravo 👏 🎊 🎉
Yes. And THAT about him makes him THE most attractive man in the world to me: Knowing himself, being conscious of himself, and being true to himself. There's a lot of comedians who do not move me at all because I see their undercurrent of not knowing themselves and not giving a damn to.
This was mine and my brother’s number one favorite movie when we were kids, and I had the biggest crush on Doug. He’s a wonderful soul, totally radiant. ❤
I truly respect a man saying no. A black man saying no to wearing a dress to satisfy Hollywood for a dollar. Thank you for standing strong. Its not about a acting job. When he states so many appetites in the industry, I felt him telling the truth and not wavering from what he is and not willing to do. I saw him in the subway in New York taking his kids to school years ago. I said to myself," That's Doug E. Doug". And we acknowledged each other and went on our way. Glad to see he's doing well.
Met him once at the Uptown Comedy Club back around 1991. He told me I was funny and it meant a lot to hear that from him. All these years later to hear him speak and see he looks well on this video matters to me.
Wow I remember watching that as a kid with my sister with the t.v. down cuz we was supposed to be in bed at that time that show was classic just as classic as comic view Def jam Comedy snaps ( underrated comedy show wildnout stole alot from it)
Just watched Cool Runnings with my 8YO son before the ball drop and he and I were laughing so hard throughout the movie. This will be a great memory for me for years to come, thanks for your contribution to such a great movie Doug.

I still remember his entire stand up routine from Showtime at the Apollo in the late 80’s early 90’s. I never thought of him as a “great actor” but he had very good supporting roles.👍🏾✌🏾
Cool Runnings was my favorite movie as a kid. I didn't realize that I haven't seen him in so long. But seeing him and hearing his stance on issues like this, I'm a fan all over again. As the great, Denzel Washington, once warned other young African actors and actresses, "You'll be defined more by what you say "no" to. Then by the things you say "yes" too." I personally have an older sister that is a lesbian and a younger sister that is a lesbian and I love them dearly. And when they dress like me and our brothers it is BCZ THEY WANTED AND CHOSE TO. Most of us black heterosexual men don't want to dress as a women, so to emasculate us by asking us to dress like a woman bcz "it's funny" has always been insulting to me. And when I've seen black entertainers dawn the dress, it has always broken my heart. To think of the fear and thoughts that their careers will be halted and their way of providing for their families will be taken, they do it. And everytime you see them in that "funny bit/part" the knowledge that the smile on their face is one that is forced. It's a sad sight
Oh, come on. Every man does not think it's "emasculating" to be in a dress. Tyler Perry sure as hell has no problem with it, and neither did Flip Wilson. Wearing the dress definitely helped their careers, lol. Sounds like the interviewer was way too hung up on that. Doug explains pretty well why he chose not to do that. Used to see him everywhere in the '90s from Cool Runnings to Hanging With The Homeboys (really good movie) to that other revamped Cosby Show he was on, and that late-night black comic showcase show---can't recall the name, but it was hilarious. He was funny too, in whatever he was in. It seemed like he just disappeared after he was in the remake of the Disney film That Darn Cat in '96, so it's intetesting to hear that he chose to leave the biz on his own. Good to see him again after all these years, giving real stories about surviving in show biz

His words and body language echo my issues in my own specific faucet of industry... there is something unnecessarily ADDED to what we gotta do to have that word "successful" attached to us... Yes indeed, the average person doesn't understand "the anger" that comes with being black and successful particularly when your business/industry is dominated by white people. I remember the first time I got stabbed in the back. I wanted to put hands on that dude but then I would be another angry black man thats now fired or in jail. "Anger" indeed.

LOVED him in Cosby. Besides Phylicia Rashad, Doug E. Doug was the perfect comedic companion to Bill Cosby. Their chemistry was great. Cosby is my favorite sitcom of all time. I wish he could come back on HIS terms.
I wanna hear more Doug E. Doug maybe we'll see more of him in the future but then again he seems like the type of guy that speaks publicly only when he has something to say.
My teenaged daughter saw Class Act with me and my husband for the first time a few weeks ago. Now every time someone says something she thinks is dumb, she says “you wanna play with my frog Damita” in Doug E Doug’s voice. She did it so much, she had to explain it to her friends. They watched it too and now Doug E Doug and Kid N Play are what’s up in these 2022 teen streets! Love rebooted indeed! ❤
I love Doug E Doug. I’ve encountered him many times in life and it was always a positive experience. When I was a teenager while walking past a building in Brooklyn with an older male cousin; someone said “Busta, Red man and Dougie are in the studio up there”. I loved Busta and didn’t know this was the Doug E they were talking about. I got outside of the studio and was so damn nervous. Suddenly I heard someone say, a girl is outside she wanted to meet y’all. A voice said “tell her to come in” and I bolted because the tone was uncomfortable. As I stood outside telling my cousin what happened, Doug E came out put his arm around my shoulder and gave me a wonderful speech that a young black woman needed to hear. I later met Busta on several occasions; I was so glad that I met Doug and not him that day. Doug later became a client at the Merrill lynch branch I worked at. He bought a building blocks away from where I lived. I loved his comedy, I loved acting and he the Man is a wonder representation of what we need from black men.
He was kinda famous in Fort Greene for having a house up the block from me. I always remembered and respected him after he visited my elementary school.

I was incredibly disappointed when watching reruns of 227 recently, only to find Hal Williams (who played Lester, the father) wore a dress. I never noticed as a kid but it was tough to see as an adult.

Quick dress tie-in. My son, who was a child actor, was filming "Odd Mom Out" for the USA Network. He was 7 at the time. I was outside at the Craft Table when he came outside to look for me and said, "Daddy...they want me to put on a dress just to be funny!" I said WHAT! He said, "I told them no, I'm not doing that!" I said exactly, now go back in and finish your scene. I was about to go Brooklyn while in Brooklyn. The NERVE to try to pull a stunt on my son while I wasn't present but they weren't ready for his true masculinity. One of the parents who was inside at the time said that you could've heard a pin drop after my son told them that he wasn't doing that.

He had a really funny show called Where I Live about a Caribbean family living in Brooklyn. It's special to me because there aren't very many stories in American media about Caribbean/West Indian culture.

This dress goes back many decades. Bob Hope wore a dress, Jerry Lewis, the three stooges and many other white comedians. I am trying to figure out why a dress is so important to them in Hollywood.
