I'm from Western NY, so I love that we had Flutie. But I also lived in Boston for a decade and loved him with BC. I still recall his miracle TD to beat Miami.
I loved Doug Flutie when he was with the Bills! I believe if he played that playoff game against Tennessee we would have won and went to the Superbowl! Let's go Buffalo 🦬🦬🦬!!!
A I got a box of cereal too,Bruce Jenners picture on it and it’s worth $1.3million , I’ll trade you for Doug’s Box. It will make you $1.3 millionaire over night. No one wants $1.3 million,I don’t understand why,it was and Olympic box,I just don’t know
Best CFL player ever, with apologies to the revered and adored Warren Moon. He was fun to watch in the Labour Day classics against my beloved Eskimos. He was tailored made for the CFL. Bigger, wider field, lots of passing and scrambling and all kinds of pre-snap motion. I don't think he ever had more fun playing football than when he dominated the league with Calgary and Toronto.
Flutie was a scrappy player and a lot of fun to watch. Unbelievable that he could compete at that level, without height on his side. He had to jump just to make a lot of those throws. I never understood how he could even see the field behind those monstrous linemen. Great competitor.
I was there with my friend when Flutie came back after 20 years. The crowd went crazy when he waved the flag and started the shout. Great to see him happy and well.
I started to follow the Bills directly because of Doug Flutie. To this day, my favourite past player who won on pure smarts, overall athleticism and a heart of a lion. I followed him in College and then saw the initial debacle in the NFL as they had no idea what to do with him. He came up to Canada and I watched him in the CFL, the first year with BC was a learning experience, but he got back his confidence and just owned the league for years to come. Cementing my thoughts. And to see him go to Buffalo in 98, the absolute most underdog story of all professional football just made me smile. In the current NFL, he'd thrive. Thrive. He was so ahead of his time of not being the then immobile prototypical NFL quarterback, but the current prototypical NFL mobile QB.
how could they put in Johnson..i see other comments about that playoff game..i was sick that they did it..and no feasible explanation,,i could emotional watching Doug thank the crowd after all those years..Doug was a true blue collar warrior..he made it chilly for the foes..
I never forgot how he cut down Mo Lewis,, 80 lbs heavier than him.. My measure of a true player. As Smitty said of that game, the smallest guy on the team has the biggest heart.
I loved Flutie. I remember the Tennessee Titans game they took him out n put in Rob Johnson. Hated that guy. Flutie could of changed that game, well the rest is history
The Bills ownership derailed the Flutie led team when they benched him for Rob Johnson and that caused them to lose in the playoffs and caused a 20 year playoff drought
And to think the man was shunned coming outta college cause he wasn't "big enough" to be a NFL qb now imagine how nasty he'd be nowadays in the league Doug was a chill and awesome guy I'm glad we gave him his shot and he gave us memories
I think the Bills were a legitimate contender to the championship with Doug. We would have won it against the titans, and the titans went on to almost win the super bowl. He is still to this date probably my favorite NFL player, or even favorite player of any sports. He has been a great inspiration to me.
LOVED Flutie's game back when he was putting the CFL on the map (3 Gray Cups, baby 😁👍!!!). Only thing that was gonna stop him from getting the Bills to the Superbowl (and most likely winning it, too) that pivotal 1999 season was none other than late Bills owner Ralph Wilson, who infamously ordered then-head coach Wade Phillips to BENCH Flutie in favor of notorious underperformer "Robo-Sack" Johnson 🤨!?!?!? That move alone not only caused the Bills to get knocked out of the playoffs in the most shameful manner that year, but it also led to 17 straight seasons of losing that was pretty much linked to THAT one moment 😮💨! Flutie certainly deserved better, that's for darn sure. In another parallel universe, he'd already have a few Superbowl rings and his place firmly secured in the NFL Hall of Fame. Natural leader, high in-game IQ, and most of all: A PROVEN WINNER!!! 😉
I was a fan of his even before he came to Buffalo, when he was with the argos. He came here, killed it!! Took us to the playoffs and was exciting as shyt!, Then they put in that rifle armed moron Rob Johnson and dumped Flutie..it was basically the start of the playoff drought
Believe it or not, there are still Bills fans that think Rob Johnson was a better QB, and defend starting him over Flutie vs Tennessee in the playoffs... Proof that yes, opinions can be wrong.
I don't want to nick pick here but wasn't flutie first TD since 1989 a pass to Andre Reed against San Diego after Johnson got knocked out ( not that Rob would never repeat that scenario as a bill ever 😂)
He was great. God rest ralph wilson and we're greatful to him for our Buffalo Bills, but worst bone headed decision to bench the man that got you to that titans playoff game. I cant see or here doug flutie without wondering what could of been.Atleast we can thank the lord for giving us Allen!!!
@@bricknmotor I agree the decision to play RJ vs Ten was bad. But Belichick had solved Flutie by covering sideline routes with a safety spy to stop Flutie running. Doug couldn't beat those defenses enough over the middle and down the seams because he had trouble seeing over the middle. He would literally jump up in the air and throw. I loved Flutie but he had that one limitation
@@mnj1tdk12 we'll never know and I personally hated rob johnson for 1 reason besides sucking. He voluntarily announced that he dont like buffalo wings. He could of just kept that to himself. Bills mafia didnt need to hear that. He could of just lied or not said anything. 😆
If Doug had just three more inches on him, he would be the greatest of all-time quarterback. He had superb arm strength, great speed, and most important of all a real passion to play the game.. of course Tom Brady had decent armstrong and real passion, but he did not have the arm strength of Doug Flutie.
Hey Doug. If you see this, please send me a Flutie Bill's jersey. I have a Chargers and a Boston but no Bill's. It's OK if you don't sign it. A selfie is good enough. Thanks, Tol from Canada
How they wanted to put Rob back in after he come back and the wave the Bills were riding with Flutie is beyond me, kind of like The Replacements with Kenau Reeves, stupid staff.
Never a team player, bad locker room guy, good in the cfl not good at all in the nfl. Rode on the coattails of one the best defenses in team history. One of the most (if not the most) overrated Buffalo Bill ever
