Goose bumps!!! I remember watching those moves used by benecio del toro in the movie “the hunted”... it’s super scary if applied by someone with fluid movements and strength
@ about 35 seconds Master Marcaida is demonstrating empty handed techniques, and totally decks his partner hard! Just goes too show the power in simplicity, even when going at a slow demonstrative pace Kali is a dangerous art! Love the karambit and Kali keep making movies like this!
I don't know if Doug himself would say he's mastered this, but I sure think he has. His knowledge and ability is on a whole other level. Every move is like a dance, and he knows all the steps. Its an incredible art and I could watch him all day, it's fascinating and respectable. In his own way, he's like a modern day Chuck Norris.
+Nicole Slater In the Philippines, they had to disguise the martial art within some of their dances as well as their everyday chores back in the day in order to keep training in plain sight when they were invaded by the Spanish. When the time was right, they used it to drive them out. There's actually a video somewhere on RU-vid where Doug was demonstrating a dance that was translated from empty hand, to a scarf, then finally on a "test dummy". If I find it, I'll post it here. It definitely is worth watching. :)
wotchthiz Come to the Philippines.. If old an guy likes you and trusts you, he'll pass you his art and you'll be amazed. They fliw us insane.. And this is bcause it was perfected thru real fighting in the 70's. It's a shame my grand father who is a feard knife fughter who fought bandits in his time passed away and he didn't have any students because his children and grand children were not interested.
Karambit is one of the the primary weapon of Silat and the techniques demonstrated are from Silat! The weapon and techniques have their origin in Sumatra island of Indonesia!
The techniques demonstrated is from Balisong (Butterfly Knife) originated in Philippines. He apply the techniques of Espada y Daga into Karambit. Besides, he explore more in karambit than ordinary silat practitioner.
@@mattjennings5864 The weapon is from Silat. But the art/techniques are from Kali. It's fine, Kali and Silat are pretty much "cousins/siblings" in terms of martial arts.
@@allws9683 better to be Judged by 12 than carried by 6. It does take more of an awareness of when the engagement changes from self defense to manslaughter with excessive force ..
Mr marcaida knows his art well. knife self defense is very specific art. If executed correctly by a skilled artist ( only in a self defense extreme case ) it is practically impossible for your attacker to gain the upper hand. unless they have a gun and are far away and even then I'm sure there is a counter for that. good to see Mr mercada is a professional and not just Hollywood . Wish you much success.

i wish to see two kali masters fight..and masters of different martial arts fight w kali master, at least in hand to hand combat...i wanna see how kali practitioner apply those techniques and use it to his advantage to defeat his opponent even w longer weapon like judo? jujitsu? pls correct me if I'm wrong
Love the art as a great tool to put in your tool box but I wonder if your art is ever pressure tested . As in other MA techniques it’s practiced on a compliant aggressor, wouldn’t it be difficult to do some of the techniques on someone fighting back aggressively ? Blessings.
Doug Marcaida has a video exactly about that called "ineffective Filipino martial arts training". In that respect FMA is very diverse: some teachers actually fought in death matches, some groups spar (sometimes full contact) and some groups don't.
This types of martial art is applicable with out rules,it would never been in a tournament.other wise both sides will signed a waiver who will challenge without rules.it will end to dead.
Axel UCC Hamburg
Its a flow demo a real fight in this way is over in the first 3 shots or less the blade gives the mind a sence of urgency as in if I do this I'm in an out over fast or I will get hurt an 2 people of this lvl of understanding will never fight for real because training will teach you that YOU WILL get cut so its better to settle it another way if someone is to attack or attempt to assault you an you are sound in this art just watch the 1st 3 strikes of any of those flows with out the weapons an that will do with the weapons that will be fatal
He sir, will KEEL. And yes, Kali is a killer martial arts where actual masters of old fight to the death for the honor on who's the better martial artist.
I have NEVER in the history of video.....EVER see anyone ever hit....nor touch Doug....ever. I have a sneaking suspicion it wouldn't be like that in real life. Matter of fact I will take it even further and state " as a 'former' fighter I KNOW he would be hit. And I like Doug and his videos but show me something for real, and real fighters know exactly what I mean. That is all. Carry on.👍
jerry 02 ch. no why do anyone think Lapu Lapu manage to kill Magellan? get him to his ship poisoned by manured spear, yes. Killed? no Kali/eskrima already a battle proven art used both by civies and armies so no need to bend history for petty shit.
Of course it is not that simple in real life, never treat dojo as real situation :D These are just drills and flows which teach you about controling and feeling what your opponent might do
Those are joint lock and and meant to break anything if you racist. Even the blocking techniques are meant to break the fist and legs. FMA is not a sport martial art. It is created solely to kill invading thrives long before.
Whats LEO's/city are allowed to carry/use a Karambit?? :) Such a brutal lethal weapon. I could see all the legal problems after the officer uses it on a criminal. Who dies from the lethal gauging. Family of criminal sues police department for excessive extreme force. No doubt the Karambit is very effective. But it's a weapon not legal in most city to own/carry/use. So to study it...ummm..practice it....WHY? How is it they're even allowed to have the Karambit to practice??? :) Kali sticks...sure. Something else...while watching this video is "fun"...posting it on RU-vid is irresponsible and DANGEROUS. Kids will see this...go to the kitchen and grab some steak knives to try to copy. Neighbour boy gets stabbed in t he face or slashed...etc. :P
kids today prefer assault rifles and hand guns, go to school on a shooting rampage, violent video games are way more dangerous than this video. gun violence in schools real!
Not legal in most cities...depending on the country you live in. This type of of knife would be carried by law enforcement as an emergency backup defense weapon. So the attacker is so close you couldn't get the gun up and aimed to fire. There are other knives carried for the same reason. Ka-bar makes another knife for this purpose. different type of knife, but for law enforcement, probably the same idea when thinking of why it might be needed.
Just be warned that if you actually do any of this you will be going to jail for a long time, no matter what the situation is. Having a knife like that and doing all those slashes, it doesn't matter if you are defending yourself, you are going to jail and will probably be sued as well.....only a criminal carries weapon like a karambit on them
@fcastle So what you're saying is, if you kill someone in self defense with a gun its ok, but cutting someone to render them non lethal to you and take control of the situation instead of killing them is worse? You are not going to prison for using this knife in a self defense situation. Im sure you would change your story real quick if someone with this knife saves your life
No, you won't. Only if you just randomly started slashing and stabbing people, then yes. However, if you are defending your life, you can use any means necessary (with the exception of black market guns obviously). A second note: You're fear of anything that can be called a weapon says way more about you than these "criminals" who are apparently running around with karambit blades where you live. I'm assuming you never had to actually defend yourself or someone else? What a narrow minded comment haha
