Such a cool guy..... I was homeless in the park playing guitar back in 03 he gave me a few bucks and said he liked the way I play. Gave me his card and said to call him if I ever needed help with my music... I carried that card around for ten years.... Nice guy
I remember seeing him play this solo piece at a Summer Namm after party. in Nashville last year with the supro guys. He is a beast of a bass player. I love bass players that are equally or more of a gearhead than guitarists. Justin Chancellor and Jon Stockman also come to mind.
he's a legend.... thanks for this post. living colour, bill laswell stuff, little axe, jungle funk and the trippy notes for bass solo lp. i got it all... :)
Nice to have a detailed tour of that board, especially where the signal chain is concerned. I love how Doug always seems to be musical with his effects. Thanks for putting this out there guys!
Met him outside a pub in London during the annual Bass Show. We both were having a smoke & chatted away. Never told him how much of a fan & his influence on me. I called my dad later to tell him like a giddy teenager 🤘🏻
Doug's understanding of his gear is remarkable. I'm not a pedal guy, but, that's partly because I don't have the patience to learn what Doug has. Beyond his gear Doug has a deep understanding of the broader music business and the reasons for being a musician in the first place. Check out his interview on, "The Sessions." He is a truly unique Pro!
Love this dude. I was in a band a while back that he loved. We played his festival in Hartford. Extremely cool and humble guy. Oh yeah..his bass playing.... LAWD!
Thanks Doug! I know this is from a ways back but you explain the use of each pedal so much better than anyone I have ever heard before. Looks like I need to buy some more pedals!
I play pretty dry but I want to start adding some color to my sound. Nothing to crazy that’ll make the other guys in the band lol at me weird but something subtle
prioritising different units for different styles of effects? having a 'ambient h9' and a 'harmonizer h9' in different places in the chain gives you a lot of options for example
Superhieno settaus - toimii -Muimoin roudasin Charlie Mingusia ja kantaesani kontrabassoansa sain ottaa ´tyypit´´ yritin toki Hendrixin 'Machine gun' biisiä - ei ihan onnistunut - myöhemmin Kulttuuritalolla Stanley Clarke antoi Alembikin laulaa kauniisti.. ja suomalainen Pekka Pohjola omalla , jäljittömällä omalaatuisella jäljettömällä tyylillään - 1970 ja 1980-luvut olivat sähköbasistien kultaaikaa - nyt harvat nostavat peukkua - matalia ääniä löyttyy mistä vaan - tämä oli tyylikästä koulutusta
