While I was in Michigan (it's been 15 years), I was able to tag along with the company that picks up my aunt's trash. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found! Everything was filmed on foot, on my phone, but I think it turned out pretty good. Still thanking RU-vid for the great thumbnail, too.
I definitely want to thank Cameron, long time viewer of this channel, driver of this awesome '03 Mack, as well as his helper Scott, who at 60 years young, still keeps up with the young fellow. He told me he was the only driver for Superior Sanitation (read below). The truck kinda reminds me of the one Curbside Disposal had. Another huge thank you to the man himself, Dougie, driving the '94 Peterbilt, and his great helper. Their Thursday routes are the largest, they finish around 4pm and the boss himself runs a route every week. The Lotso bears on the grilles are a cool touch. This is a great local, family owned trash business, the four guys I met are great! I look forward to seeing them again when I make it back.
Truck specs: 2003 Mack MR McNeilus 25yd, over 400,000 miles. 1994 Peterbilt 320 McNeilus 20yd, over 200,000 miles.
I had a lot industry changes to catch up on! 15 years ago, the only two companies I remember were Hornback and Duncan. Hornback was bought by Advanced Disposal in 2015. Advanced was recently acquired by Waste Management. My aunt switched to Superior Sanitation, which was acquired by Environmental Waste, who was recently partially acquired by Waste Management.
Duncan is a whole other interesting story. The first Duncan Disposal was sold to USA Waste in 1997. The Duncan I remember as a child was sold to Rizzo in 2016, which was sold to GFL. From what I was told, Duncan reemerged again and sold out, and now currently operates under The Original Duncan Disposal.
