Did the judge suggest some false accusations were thrown around? To my mind, not guilty means the prosecution could not prove it’s case beyond a reasonable doubt. As is the standard in our criminal law system. I don’t see the fairness in locking up alleged victims because the prosecution failed in proving their case.

There might be an issue to this… what if the claim turns out to be true, but they do not have enough evidence to support their claim? They would be penalized for telling the truth. The issue is that sometimes the justice system can fail people. But I do agree that there should be some penalizing action against these claims that truly are false.

The problem with that is it would make people who have actually been victims of rape or sexual assault even less likely to come forward for fear of not winning the case and ending up in prison themselves. For me the solution is to not allow the names of anyone involved to be put out to the public until the case is resolved.

Spacey is considered innocent of assaulting Rapp, and Rapp is considered innocent of making false accusations, because neither have been proved guilty. Even if it's impossible for both to be true (and I don't think it is in this case as Rapp could simply be mistaken), it's still the position that has to be taken while neither is proven guilty.

Well one, it's a huge statement to say it's the worst thing to happen to Western countries in recent times, with no backing up. It probably isn't true considering we live in a time of: increased sexual assault, police brutality, choking of the planet, cluster bombs on Ukraine,. That list goes on. But besides, and while I obviously dislike false accusations and have friends who have suffered from it, I think the tendency to use it as a mode of anger and feeling of injustice is primarily by men (as that's who is primarily in cases like this), and it therefore allows men to not care about other injustice (minorities, women, LGBT etc) as they begin to again only feel for themselves and their race,. Instead of looking at the power they have to do right by others, they put bigger wedges between us.
