They have subverted the term, like they pervert all language. Know who else does this? Satan. He twists and contrasts all holy rhetoric and idols. More evidence the Woke left are demonic agents of chaos trying to warp and gain control of your mind. Do not let them.
They are wounders. They set people up to live in wounds. It’s a form of taking power through harm. Brains are plastic. If they worked with the moment and creating they would have to stop reblurbing the past and actually have to show up.
Victoria Street Or the loonie bin doors were thrown open and now the loonies have taken over the world. Just look at the democrat party in America Defund the police Left letting their cities burn Etc etc. Scary crazy.
It's more serious than that sadly. The trained left wing propagandists have taken over. Communists always believed it was easier to collapse a society from within.
I'm serious when I say this I am a Canadian christian woman who is completely blown away by Mr. Douglas Murray's words He truly has a clear mind about what's happening today and we are better for listening to him.
They are free market radical liberals and have been for decades! Trade is everything Society Culture National Identity These things mean nothing to them.
Excellent discussion once again, thank you. On a point Douglas made: I am a 70yo Brit who has lived outside the UK for more than 40 years but on retirement felt a strong attraction to re-immerse myself in British culture during my latter years however, when I seriously looked at Britain today I simply could not bring myself to willingly be surrounded by the issues of immigration (legal and otherwise), growing Islamic fervour, contemporary Brit politics and the expanding woke culture in order to re-connect with all the things I miss. A decision that saddens me greatly but one I know is best for my own peace and sanity.
Your decision to stay put is wise, but I'm sorry, we need wisdom here in the UK. I love my country, but its fading before my eyes, dissolving in the acid bath of Woke wankery and left leaning, guilt-edged insanity. I'm 73 but my wisdom and life experience stands for nothing, according to a very Woke, badly misguided and much loved family member. I wish you luck and some laughter in these dark times.
@@Boudicca165 I'm also 73 and I'm devastated at what Britain has become, what will these woke people think once they grow up when they look round at the destruction their madness has created, will they even notice how they've destroyed the land that has nurtured them in their early life, destroying the culture of centuries in the making.
Ye Brits are lucky to have Douglas Murray and his Ideas. I , an Irishman make sure as many Irish People as possible get to Listen / Watch Douglas ! Cheers.
I love listening to Douglas, A- because he knows what he's talking about, B- because he validates a lot of the things I think and have always thought. I didn't go to university , but have always tried to understand what's happening in the world, and have always had an interest in history. These people who decry everything, and want to change history (impossible to do in fact), are just wrong. Thankfully, we have a voice in people like Douglas to counteract them.
I went to university, but I am able to see the clear cognitive dissonance in the hypocrisy of main-stream politics. There are university "survivors", if you like, heh
But history is a long list of lies. who writes history? What is included and excluded? Where do any of us read history? Who are our sources. History is all about erasure. It's written by the victors to perpetuate their values and objectives. So let's all stop pretending that the histories we see are somehow a conclusive version of the past - they are categorically not. What is not written about is just as informative as what is not.
@Michael Richardson I'm told it effects England, Scotland and Wales flags only when name is typed, it then shows the national flag but when you hit send, the black flag replaces it. Strange or what !!!
Black Lives Matter and the Far Left want a historical and cultural Year Zero in order to secure the pious and pure future. The past puts that violent and repressive utopian project in jeopardy. It's all there in George Orwell's Nineteen Eight-Four.
@@zalacainbilbao I think thats the whole idea. Mind you I am not so sure they will enjoy that future - and by that time there will be nobody left to defend the wokies against what is coming
I love when everytime Douglas is REALLY serious, he is changing his voice into very deep,.low and angry. Like an angry dad who is warning his children to behave OR ELSE!
"You need to lie down after speaking to someone that dim." That sentence just made my entire day. Because you are so right Mr. Murray. Things have gone from ridiculous to the absolute absurdity we see today. I have both your books and found them sublimely written although very depressing when one thinks about the future, because how to stop this before it is irreversible? Your videos should be watched by the masses so they can see just how far it has got and how they are duped into believing they are evil just because of the colour of their skin.
Almost every day I wonder what CSL would have made of it all..... I have sent a couple of quotes, (from That Hideous Strength), to my MP, (sadly, a "Cabinet Minister" now), but strangely, never received a reply 🤔.
My problem with Douglas Murray in this interview is that he defends his position by attacking someone else. He attacks Turkey as a defence for England's history of slavery. The Turks aren't the ones knocking down statues and demanding reparation. The question we should be asking is " What is the truth about these people we venerate by erecting statues to them." and if they are gown to be slave traders or responsible for genocide. Do we want to retain these statues. I am also very disappointed that he doesn't realise why feminists like JK Rowling are against trans women being recognised as women. It seems quite obvious to me that what they are saying is that being a woman is an exclusive club that outsiders can't join. If you are born s man you can never join us. You can only submit to us. This is not feminists seeing the light it's feminists closing the door.
@@anthonyseymour1403 Perhaps Douglas Murray is suggesting that it would be ludicrous for the Armenians to demand reparations from the Turks today? These are snippets from *The Science of Evil; on Empathy and the Origins of Cruelty* 'By the 1870s Armenians were pressing for reforms, and during the 1890s at least 100,000 Armenians were killed. On April 24, 1915, 250 Armenian intellectuals were rounded up, imprisoned, and killed. 8 On September 13 the Ottoman parliament passed a law decreeing the “expropriation and confiscation” of Armenian property, and Armenians were marched from Turkey to the Syrian town of Deir ez Zoor. En route and in twenty-five concentration camps (near Turkey’s modern borders with Iraq and Syria), 1.5 million Armenians died. Some were killed in mass burning, others by injection of morphine, and yet others by toxic gas. It is a history that is not often told, and the genocide of the Armenians is clear proof (if any were needed) the Holocaust was not unique to the Nazis.'
As a Canadian who is deeply embarrassed by the actions and inactions of our "woke" Prime Minister, it is refreshing to see such a cogent and thoughtful analysis of the problems afflicting western societies. Douglas Murray is a gem. I enjoy his refreshing candor and the way he maintains his cool even when faced with angry, irrational criticism. Peter is one of those rare interviewers who is more interested in the opinions of his guests than his own. Bravo!
I will watch every single talk and interview Douglas Murray does. He is one of the best intellects of our time and one of the most reasonable people I have heard speak.
As an American, I love hearing Mr. Murray speak about my country, and its history, from HIS perspective! Very interesting and enlightening. And he is absolutely 100% correct in his analysis of the situation - it does stem from this being the result of complete and utter ignorance. It's deplorable. And very sad. All of the people I know are sick of it, and most of us are holding back every ounce of retaliation we have that would turn this into an all out war. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but I'd be lying if I didn't say you can feel the wave building....
Most countries in the world today are very young. Even places you think of as being hundreds of years old, such as Italy and Germany, only date back to the mid 19th century.
He gave a wrong answer there. If someone uses that "Only a Nazi would be so defensive/deny being one!" piece of circular moronitude, then it proves nothing other than that they haven't read their Kafka. One doesn't even have to dignify that level of idiocy with a response. Just a Tucker Stare will suffice.
Mark Williams True some states are relatively recently formed but you can refer to cultures or former states in the locality... still works. “Great Britain” is only in existence since 1707
I love Douglas he is a true member of the intelligentsia not the rubbish printed in the media these days. People like him should run the country not the pathetic MP's we have.
Part of the problem is that the right is passive and reasonable and the Left are highly active an destructive. The right needs to stop being so apologetic about history, culture etc. Time to speak up.
Ermmmmm... Donald Trump, Katie Hopkins, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson... just a few names in a very long list of names on the right who are far from silent or apologetic
After many years of anyone giving a right of centre opinion being denounced as a racist or some kind of 'phobe' we do have some right wing voices speaking against the liberal consensus. And usually they're vilified by the Left controlled media. So these spokesmen have tended to be larger than life characters that can deal with the abuse that's routinely thrown their way to silence them. But gradually the the quiet, common sense Conservative views of the majority are starting to be heard. And a good thing too, because a stable society is built on a foundation of small 'c' conservatism rather than progressive ideas which disrupt and invert the natural order of things.
Charlie Morrissey That's a situation where minority interests are not prioritised over the mainstream. Minority views are ok in the sense that they can spark discussion but allowed too much importance they can/will disrupt the peaceful order of society. The phrase is " the tail shouldn't wag the dog."
He is so right it's crazy, I disagree with most commentators on at least one point or view but I've watched this man for years now and still agree 100% with his views........ So far!
Read the Perestroika Deception by Anatoly Golitsyn. Most people know Yuri Bezmenov, but that's only one part of the picture. Golitsyn was a Soviet dissident and ex-KGB spy who defected to the West and said the Soviets would pull something like that in order to get the West to let their guard down. Over 90% of what he predicted has come true.
@@optimatesupport3453 Yes it is a theory. Like Marxists, much of what you say is based on theory. Your analyses and solutions are all crudely simplistic. The world is complex and people are complex. You, on the other hand, want to make the world' myriad complexities simple. All the better to use them politically. These theories are weapons of politics. Marxists use their theories to advance their political goals - and I suspect that's what you're doing. Your theory is so outrageously conspiratorial - and would have required mass cooperation between multiple players at multiple different levels over decades - that it's just a weapon of your politics. There are indeed conspiracies and conspiratorial individuals and institutions. However, they're often at war with each other. And that natural warring instinct would have to be erased in order for your huge collaborative theory to be true. By the way, it's often the case that those with deeply conspiratorial minds see conspiracies which don't exist. Indeed they see ten different conspiracies before breakfast. The endless conspiracy theories of such individuals tell us more about the conspiracy theorists than it does about the political world.... By the way, when another person has another conspiracy theory that's directly art odds with your own, then how is that impasse sorted out? Does a battle of politics solve the problem?
@@paulaustinmurphy So the UN's sustainable development goals cum New World Order are a myth then? The world is about to undergo a great awakening, in my opinion.

Or are you so emotionally charged that you can't be bothered?
This is probably the best programme I have heard , and Douglas Murray is , as always the best speaker we have in England. I could listen to him all day. Peter, you are a superb host. Thank you for this excellent programme.
I grew up in a colony in the 1950s where we had to learn all the glorious history. They never told us about Barbary pirates. The pirates raided spanish gallions.
@@ignominius3111 @17:00 "My friend Christopher Hitchens" I'm reading a collection of Hitchens essays. "Arguably." Hitchens notes that Thomas Jefferson sent the US Atlantic navy into the Med after questioning the Ottoman consul as to why they were allowing Barbary pirates to take slaves. The answer that was given is very similar to the situation that exists in Libya to this day. This was before the British abolished slavery. The irony being that Jefferson himself was at that time a slave owner himself.

Just missed a stream from our cousins across the pond because it was early morning (sleeping). Now I’m to miss another legend talking on our current moral dilemma regarding the re-writing of our history (as I’m working). Lots to catch up on when I get back. Thanks for all your work Douglas. These Young People are having the best days of their lives. Finally there's a vision of goodness behind their hamster wheel of debt. Many will will retreat when their allies try to kill them.
IMO young people are terrible with politics, I know my views have changed a lot since I was in my teens/twenties. Most people I know have changed their views when they got older. When young most don't realise how the world works and just follow others without thinking of the consequences. They think they know, but really have no clue. Just look at the riots etc going on now, most are young.
Totally agree; expand your knowledge of the world around you before you despise your own country. Insular zealots decrying their surroundings without the understanding, and being selectively blind to, the depravities, political and personal constraints, and historical atrocities of other nations and continents.
At 20 min my jaw dropped. The reliving of history is what has been so frustrating for me. The American project was a project for this exact ideological possession could not rule the day. Instead of getting behind out institutions and leaning on them in a real time they are NEEDED, why I pay taxes by the way, our "educated" believe emotion and ideology should rule and the American project was a problem. It's so childish I'm ashamed.
Since I believe in.putting my money where my mouth is, I just took a break from this video to go on Amazon and by Madness of Crowds and the Strange Death.of Europe! I like Douglas Murray!😊😊😊😊😊
@John Smith, I think it is actually wider than that. I'm 67 yo non-gay man and I have long thought that gays en masse have brains that are wired differently to nearly all like me. This is not a criticism of them, it is just an observation of mine: and is something I am actually in respect and admiration of, especially in Mr Murray's case.
Why should being homosexual mean that a person can't be rational or right of centre? Perhaps you subscribe to the leftist trope that gay men who are right of centre and who do not align themselves with identity poitics are the wong kind of homosexual.
In my eyes anyway he's the heir to Christopher Hitchens. He's clearly been influenced by Hitchens, and shares some of the vocal intonations, but he's also got the guts to face down radical islam and the conformist "woke" left, and that you can't teach. I hope he picks up on this west vs china hegemony thing as i feel that's the big debate of our time - do or die.
Listened to both The Strange Death of Europe and The Madness of Crowds on Audible. I was gripped and have ordered the paperback versions. Douglas pins the Social Justice woke culture with clarity and erudite prose and shines a light of sanity that I hope will lead us to a more balanced and sane tomorrow.
The most important thing that he says is that young people must be given the opportunity of finding fulfillment in something other than political action. This is so important. Political activity is a huge waste of time, does very little, and is done by those who are ignorant. In fact, the stupider you are, the more political usually. Those who have no knowledge or skills fill their time by messing about on the internet.
