Sadly, I think our educational system is at fault. There are certain American values we used to share. They were the things that bound us No one teaches them anymore and that has been happening for a very long time.

It’s not the educational system’s job to teach children “certain values”. That’s how you get WOKE schools.

Been to drug rehabilitation AA and have been in recovery for thirty years. It is gratitude that has made me the happiest in my life. I have achieved things I have wanted to accomplish and have a peace I never had when using. Love listening to both Douglas and Lex - educated and sensible. Refreshing in this world. ❤

Most important thing for me was being in recovery and in a very strong group was finding something to fill in for drinking. I thought life was going to be a big boor but the opposite was true and life took on meaning. Early on it was hanging out going to meetings all over with the group, the meeting and afterward diner hangouts. In time I found my church and many other things to do. After 35 years I hardly go anymore yet my life is full plus I made life long friendships
@drewtheunspoken3988
@drewtheunspoken3988 Месяц назад
@glenbearh9109 that's the hardest part about recovery and one that is seldom discussed; breaking through that wall of boredom that cones from giving up your crutch of choice. The boredom is often why people relapse. Especially without AA or similar. They either don't know that the boredom is only a temporary state, or they believe they lack the strength to overcome it. But once you do, you usually have a greater appreciation for life and the little things that make every day worth living.

@@drewtheunspoken3988 yes Drew we are in agreement. Looking back, booze dominated almost every thought and action. Getting a job tp be able to buy the booze and have a place tp drink it. Planning the how and when and thinking always thinking how to not ruin it this time. Yes all my time was in someway associated with booze. Thank God for the bunch I fell into we were always doing stuff in the rooms and outside (Movies, fishing bowling and even Broadway shows

" half the country thinks ....and another half thinks..."! It seems to me that most people don't think things through deeply, but react emotionally to information which they happen to absorb.Very few actually examine issues seriously before forming an opinion.So I would say that " half the country follows fashion a, half the country follows fashion b".How intellectual fashions are created is another matter.But let's not confuse them with thinking!

I think Murray is right in saying there is a disagreement about how to regard our founding myths, and that we have to resolve this disagreement somehow if we are to move forward. But does he think the answer is to rehabilitate a few "heroes" so we can have a polite discussion? Seems to me this would be to just paper over some fundamental issues that need to be addressed before we can so much as agree on what our current problems even are!

People get seduced into a lifetime-game of proving "I'm the best." One must achieve enough titles after the name, to avoid a devastating shrinkage of self-importance. Burdened with that invisible agenda, few question whether they actually like or even love whatever they do. Snickering arrogance from others is the unspoken judgement. We don't talk anymore. We recite "win-loose" "talking point" sounds we pretend to be conversations. Why is it so hard for us humans to elevate ourselves above and beyond the childhood and childish egos that had been included in our NewBorn package? Peggy Finston MD

The only thing that would make America great again is higher taxes and create a budget surplus. That surplus would pay the debt and you can use it for education and healthcare.
@lionelyt3819
@lionelyt3819 Месяц назад
This is very naive thinking. You make an assumption that government will pay off their debt, and they will look after the balanced budget. But it never happens in real life, as debt only grows. Politicians are good for using the public money as their own cookie jar. What yo need to do is the opposite: lower the taxes to stimulate the business and economy and slash the government by half or more. It'll take a long time with today's astronomical debt but will have some effect on the end. But they'll not do it because it's not on their agenda. That's why default is inevitable and will take a lot of people by surprise. Welcome to the great reset.

@Joey-ct8bm
@Joey-ct8bm Месяц назад
@@seanonfire4119 It isn't that hard. It's checks and balances, which is been going negative in the US since 1999. Last budget surplus was under Bill Clinton and he raised taxes for people making over 600k a year. Do that again only 300k and you got money for Healthcare and education. I would do education first. People are crazy dumb in the US.
@elizabethcooke8998
@elizabethcooke8998 24 дня назад
Sorry but you will never pay off the debt. Budget surpluses do not pay off debt. I have seen it explained but I cannot put it simply. Maybe google why national debt will never be paid off. America's oligarchs need to pay tax. Did you know that Australia gives away it's gas for free to American companies such as Exxon. I feel really upset by that. We have worse inflation than you. We also paid you over 3b for Virginia class submarines and apparently they are not going to be delivered anytime soon. We Aussie battlers are not happy with the US either.

If you're not going to be honest about the problem, then it's not worth having the conversation. This is not fundamentally agreeing about the past or elections or being grateful about what you have. This is about people and human nature. People relate to other people who are most like themselves. This includes religion, language, customs, and...wait for it...race. Yes, people choose to be around others who are racially like themselves. You can deny it all you want, yet if you look around at immigrant communities, you'll see these are people who have formed whole neighborhoods of all Asians, or Muslims, or some other group. Diversity is not a strength, it's a weapon used to divide and conquer. It's a tool used to weaken. And it works.
@elizabethcooke8998

History is something we read and understand. It's not for us to agree or disagree with history.. You born here, you accept the Land you stand on it, if you dispense your motherland, than leave. Otherwise, the society has the right to demand you to be a lawful, respectful citizen. I think this is fair. Instead of whining, you can be productive to make the quality of life better. Nobody owns you a living, you are what you want to be and the consequences follow.
