One of Americana Outdoors teams favorite times of the year is the opening of dove season. In this video clip we head out with the Wendlandt's and the Middleton's for opening day action as they hunt for whitetwing doves in Texas on one of Sammy Nooner's dove fields.

In your opinion, what's the best choke? I believe the Doves are a little thrown off because of the hurricane we had here and they're flying pretty high.

We would recommend shooting a Full Choke with a 7-1/2 shot if they are flying 30 yards or higher. If they are flying lower than that a Modified Choke would be best.

Chokes to us are based on hunting situation. If your hunting areas that it's a flyway modified and even full can be the ticket but if your hunting close in say over a pond than an improved cylinder is best. We feel it's all about the situation for that day and that there is no 1 answer to that question

My recommendation to you is you need to get to use 1 choke either modified or full , and 1 kind of brand of shell , never change. Once you do that , you ll see the different , for doves I use modified and I shoot Remington 7 1/2 on fall season , late season I use shot #6 because the weather will be colder and the dove take little longer to fall

They are standing in an open field. No crouching, no sitting, no cover. No dogs. No dekes. Recipe for a very light dove bag on opener. Better have a wheelbarrow full of shells and a good recoil pad on your gun. Ammo maker execs LOVE dove hunting!!!!

I have a question for you. You said you planted the sun flowers specifically for the dove hunts. Wouldn't it be baiting which is against one of the hunting rules. I don't want to get caught for baiting.

It's different in every State. In most planted food plots are legal. Baiting refers more to feed piles.

No its a food plot which is a farming practice so no if they threw seed in the ground it would be

Here in SC, if you plant it, you're legal. Throw it out by hand, and it's illegal.

Poor doves who just fall outta the sky helpless and end up on my dinner table and they taste soooo goood if you don’t like hunting then don’t watch hunting videos
