Another awesome fishing trip on a nice day and a double hookups too, a bit small but good eating fish and not to mention the ROCK, hahaha, cheers, tight lines and greetings from NZ,, Tony. .
What a great day. Lots of action and a redefined Rock Fish! You guys are living the life. I'll be up there soon (not soon enough). Keep up the great work Captain.
Captain Zac and The Halibut Queen Awesome Day… The Queen always prevails.. Coming to you from the bank of the Nushagak River. The Kings are trickling in along with the Sockeye and Chum. Hopefully the wad of fish will get here soon. One week to go.. Tight Lines my friend.. E
Hey Eric thanks for stopping by and I'm jealous of your upcoming fishing adventure! I hope a huge wave of fish pushes in and your arm gets sore from non-stop salmon battles! Best of luck and I'd love to hear how you end up doing! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Dr. Mary running a clinic with the 7oz LOL! Mary dying laughing at that rock was hilarious. Can't wait to see y'all pull some barn doors this season :D
Haha hey @Corbynwd thanks the for positive comment! Well said - Mary once again put on a halibut clinic! I guarantee that I'll remember that darn ROCK years from now - a total workout hauling it up foot by foot nearly 200 feet off the ocean floor! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey zak glad to see you and Mary are keeping your hooks wet. My wife and daughter just returned from Alaska and they said it is sooo petty. But they didn't bring me any hallies as you call them I have never eaten any halibut but the meat looks like it would be good.. well hope y'all catch a bunch I will try to keep giving the thumbs up I really enjoy you and Mary's vlogs.
Hey @HowardFoster-ih5rw I'm glad your wife and daughter had a great time in Alaska! Next time you'll have to join and go halibut fishing while you are here! If you enjoy Alaska, you'd probably like Mary's instagram account - instagram.com/marysmark/ Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Thanks Steven! I'm excited for you guys - I hope you have a fantastic trip! If you send me some pics afterward I can include them on the weekly braggin board! captainzacalaska@gmail.com Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha I actually thought about keeping the rock to commemorate such a world-class catch however I decided to release it since there was some living matter on the rock and wanted to give it the best chance to surviving. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
Haha yes indeed this new species is going to take a lot of seasoning! Perhaps the next seasoning I'll launch will be the ROCKfish blend haha Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
Captain Rock, the Queen out-fished you again. You might need to rest the rod and pick up the camera full time. You two are great for sure. I do enjoy watching you guys fish. Looking forward to you catching a barn door. Tight lines you two until next video.
Haha "Captain Rock" ... OUCH!!! As usual, the Halibut Queen out-fished everyone in the boat! Good suggestion, perhaps my efforts are better spent filming her catching halibut instead of trying unsuccessfully to land them myself! haha Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey Terry thanks again for the repeat order and I'm glad you enjoyed the Halibut Magic! If you start making halibut salad sandwiches you'll catch more king salmon - that is the luckiest trolling snack ever! Are you heading back to Waters Edge this year? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Awesome! I'll be heading down to Petersburg in my boat in mid-July. Best of luck fishing - please leave me a halibut or two down there!!! haha Tight lines! Captain Zac
Haha a first for everything for sure! I was holding out hope that this was a sleepy halibut but alas this giant rock finally surfaced haha Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hey @fjohns0812 that's awesome you got to see orcas over by Gustavus! They are cool to watch and I'm alway surprised as how much ground they cover - they are almost always on the move! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha @davidraines1380 perhaps I should change the channel name from Captain Zac to The Mary Show! Thanks for stopping by and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
What you did was probably better for the environment, but I think I would have brought that rock home and found a place for it. Was it granite, was there quartz in it? You caught a specimen that could have contained rare earth minerals in it and you "let it go!" I was waiting for a fish to steal your pole when you laid it on the deck. I've seen that before. Critique aside, it's always fun to watch the show.
Haha hey Alan thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this one! I almost kept it but there was a living piece of reef or coral that I thought should return to the sea floor. Yes indeed - I saw that I was getting a bite and didn't have my rod holder setup. So the next best move was to loosen the drag and sit the rod down mostly in the boat. Luckily, disaster avoided! Tight lines! Captain Zac
You folks are on your game, so much fun just to watch. Wish I was there with you guys, my turns coming soon, One guy asked me how long do you stay fishing? I told him there is no time when you’re fishing you’re just fishing.
As always, a great video.....Thank you.....I would like to change topics. a while back I asked about do you pull the boat out every day or do you have moorage, etc. With your boat in the water a long season, how do you flush your engines to prevent salt build up and any marine growth on the hull? Just another how to video........maybe.....Mike
Thanks @the_ling_council - since halibut are a bottom fish it is more effective to target them with back trolling which allows you to bounce the jigs off the bottom (triggering a strike) and keep the jig in the strike zone longer. We do catch halibut while trolling for salmon sometimes but that would be an atypical way to target halibut. Tight lines! Captain Zac
Great videos. I truly enjoy and always look forward to your next video. Quick question, if I understand, you often drift while jigging? Back drift? Can you explain?
Hi @billzumwalt324 thanks for the positive comment! Yes I'm using a Penn Carnage III Jigging Spinning rod with a Penn Slammer 8500 reel with 80lb PowerPro braid. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi @carolinepicard5979 haha yes indeed - I'm pretty used to being out-fished by Mary at this point! Sounds like you've got a similar arrangement! haha Tight lines! Captain Zac
I think I hurt myself laughing watching Mary laugh at you bringing up that rock. It would have been funny while you were holding up that rock if Mary would have said, "don't you want to measure that"?
Thank you for not putting some stupid, windy metal track in the background...makes me instantly skip any outdoor video...be sure to brine that Rock fish for 6-8 decades...
Haha hey @kauaicouple yes indeed I suppose that ROCK fish would take an especially long brining session before being ready to cook up! haha I'm glad the music resonated with you - I try to keep it low-key so the natural sounds remain the main focus. Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
I have a harpoon for larger fish and a gaff for smaller ones. If you watch my other videos you'll see me harpoon any of the larger fish. I gaffed a 50 pounder with this gaff last weekend and it worked just fine.
