Hi Captain, Doing some catch up watching of your vids! I'm down for a few weeks due to shoulder being replaced. Watching all your vids I've missed out on, is just what the Dr ordered!! Sure enjoy watching y'all rip some lips! The Bear footage was amazing, little bit of a pucker factor going on too!
Hey @NRALifer1 I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action, especially that bear footage! I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder troubles - I hope the procedure went well and that you are back on the road to recovery soon. I imagine it must be tough given how many things in a day involve moving your arm/shoulder. Hopefully these fishing videos provide a brief distraction from the medical stuff! Get well and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Hi @nativemachanic thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed - on this mid-July day this was one of the hottest halibut holes around! Happy New Year and here's to many tight lines in 2024 my friend! Captain Zac
Nice video-capture of “fishin’ frolics” that make pleasant memories for years to come. Safe/healthy/successful wishes for you and Mary for the year ahead. May there be plenty of screaming drag sounds ahead there in the last frontier state. Your fishin’ friend- Geoff C
Hi Geoff many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I appreciate the well wishes! Let's touch base one of these days re: our trip this summer. Happy New Year to you and the family and here's to many tight lines in 2024 my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Tony thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut and bear footage! Happy New Year my friend and here's to many tight lines in 2024! Captain Zac
Hi Brian thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed - at this spot the halibut were quite plentiful! Chickens are definitely very tasty but obviously have less yield than a 50-70 pound fish. The 50-70 pounders still taste wonderful but also have fillets with nice thickness. It is hard to beat a "nice chicken" in the 30-50lb range in terms of table fare! Happy New Year and tight lines in 2024 my friend! Captain Zac
Thanks @PeelingLine! Haha while I wouldn't say solely pescatarian, I certainly do enjoy my fair share of Alaskan seafood, often a few times per week! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Patrick thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! We use Penn Slammer IV 8500 with 80lb PowerPro braid on Penn Carnage III Jigging Spinning rods. Thanks again and tight lines in 2024! Captain Zac
Hi @danielmartin2518 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I'm using a Penn Carnage IV Jigging Spinning Rod with a Penn Slammer III 8500 reel with 80lb PowerPro braid. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Bradley Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by! I'll mention this to CAPT Mary haha. Yes - I actually grew up in PA so I return every year for whitetail hunting there. I got a nice 7pt with a rifle this year but have also taken countless archery whitetails over the years. I had some close calls with Sitka Blacktails and Black Bears this season near Juneau but no harvests. I'd love to get into moose hunting but that is proving hard to break into. How about you? Any hunting on your end? Tight lines in 2024 my friend! Captain Zac
I live in commiefornia, havent been hunting in years, its not the best here. Would love to move to wyoming. I thought Alaska has great hunting.@@CaptainZac
@@bradleyeis7319 Ah too bad to hear about the limited hunting opportunity locally. Wyoming would be way more favorable for hunting! Alaska does have great hunting - it just takes years to learn the ropes and I've spent WAY more cycles fishing in Alaska than hunting here. I'm sure I'll learn more and more each year!
@@bradleyeis7319We've been here about 10 years (initially partial year and now we live here) however I've been fishing up here every year for a few decades. The world class fishing and amazing wildlife was definitely the draw to move up here. A week or two each summer just wasn't enough! Perhaps you could consider moving to Alaska one of these days?
Hey @rph3344 thanks for stopping by! Penn Slammer IV 8500 with 80lb PowerPro on a Penn Carnage III Jigging spinning rod. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Eric thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Haha yes indeed Popeye forearms is a great way to describe the arm strength built up at the end of a long halibut season! Happy New Year and here's to many tight lines in 2024! Captain Zac
Hey Howard thanks for the positive comment and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut and bear action! I'm fortunate to have a great first mate - catching a big halibut is always a team sport! Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hey I’ve got a question. What makes you run spinning set ups for halibut? I’ve never seen anyone do that before. With the limited power and line capacity what happens if you hook into a 150 pound halibut ? Or are you targeting areas you know there’s not big fish?
Hi @bowhunter4954 thanks for stopping by. I have convention gear on board as well but often prefer the spinning gear as it promotes a more natural jigging motion because of the direction the reel is seated (pulling the spinning setup upwards vs. pushing the conventional setup upwards). I don't have any issues with drag or line capacity - the 8500 model has 50lbs of drag and the 10500 model has 60lbs (I mostly use 8500 but do have a 10500). If you check the max drag of most leading reels I suspect you'll find that this drag performance is very good. No issues with line capacity either - plenty of barn doors easily landed without any risk of being spooled. I typically run 80lb braid. www.pennfishing.com/products/slammer-iv-spinning-reel Due to the fishing pressure near Juneau, larger fish are admittedly harder to come by than other areas with less fishing pressure. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
