I knew Phil had another band after Pantera but this is my first time hearing it. I'll need to listen to the studio version, it's going to be amazing.

NOLA is by far one of *the best albums of all time* front to back it's simply a masterpiece.

Nola is just riff after riff of heavy sludgy goodness, one of my favourite albums of any band any genre. Absolutely in the masterpiece section.

Without even watching, I must-no, HAVE-to give you all the props for being the first “reactor” (that doesn’t sound right, especially since I just watched “Chernobyl”...but I digress) to do this song!!! This riff is heavier than a supernova, and more catchier than global warming.

Down is a New Orleans metal super group. Down includes members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, and Crowbar.

Damn, its been a long while since I've heard of these guys but yes, Down is one of Anselmo's projects he basically formed in the early 90s during his Pantera days. You should check out Temptation Wings whether live or studio. Another great tune from their NOLA live album

Thank you to David. DOWN is an amazing band and this entire album this song is on is fucking stupidly good. I dont get how Far Beyond Driven came out 1 year before this. And then 1 year later we got Southern Trendkill. Crazy!

Fun fact: This live version is dropped to Drop D where the studio version is in Drop C. Meaning, they wanted their already heavy a$$ rippin song to be heavier than it already was.

NOLA is amazing. Down II and III are special. Soulful fucking masterpieces.

Definitely give the album version a listen. Down - Nola was released in 1995 before Pantera's Great Southern Trend Kill album ('96). If you like sludge, also check out Crowbar - Kirk Windstein is one of the guitarists in Down, the other being Pepper Keenen from Corrosion of Conformity.

I was there and that was the day I discovered Down. Some facts to note, firstly it was a fucking hot day. Secondly, Down were filling the Saturday "surprise band" slot, coming on at 11am. Thirdly, even though it was 11am, Phil was pretty tanked already. Forthly, Phil's Pantera bandmate Rex Brown was the bass player. The band is a supergroup made up of New Orleans scene veterans. Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity on guitar, Kirk Windstein of Crowbar also on guitar and Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod on drums.

He sounds much better in smaller venues and the studio version is absolutely amazing. You can't really take anything away from this video.

You cant hear the beat because it's so jumbled outside. Try the cancert in NOLA, the audio is top notch. Also, this classified as stoner metal also.

2009 in greece rockwave festival, at the end ing riff, members of mastodon and kylesa starting swapping instruments with down and in the end it was another new band playing.... great time!

Hell yeah!! Damn good song! Gotta love Phil! Pepper from Corrosion. Kirk from crowbar, and Rex from Pantera. Can't remember who the drummer at that time was. The line up has changed a few times. Supposedly theres a 25th anniversary tour in the works.

Great reaction as always my metal brother. Any band that has Phil Anselmo fronting it is sure to be a good metal band. Hell people have been trying to replicate his voice and singing style since he hit the stage with the Abbott brothers (R.I.P.) in the 90’s. What gets lost on a lot of people is that before Phil got strung out on drugs he was actually a very smart, and articulate man. His earlier interviews show hints of this if your ever curious and want to check them out.

My only problem with down was I was always waiting for that awesome dimebag solo to come and it never does . Took me a long time to get over that and realize they aren't pantera and I like down for other reasons cuz they are great and Phil is a monster

Jimmy Bower is an absolute fucking maniac on both drums and guitar. Do yourself a favor and please check out the official video for Down’s “We Knew Him Well”. He beats that kit so hard, but with more groove than a record, I’m amazed it wasn’t reduced to confetti. As everyone else has already made you fully aware of Mr. Bower’s multitude other projects, rather than be specific I’d instead like to direct you to straight to another RU-vid channel-Mike Holderbeast. He’s an independent professional filmmaker that has been documenting the NOLA underground metal/punk/hardcore scene for decades, and has years of footage/official videos/docs available on his channel. Not asking for any reaction vids, merely offering some reference material. Also, Vice did a fantastic doc on the NOLA underground metal scene a few years ago that you should definitely watch...you’ll also see Jimmy Bower not only go fishing, but break the whole NOLA scene down. Being of Irish/American descent, you know I could ramble on all night about this, but will spare us both.
