I Love this song so much. I played the song at my wife's funeral. She died from stage 4 cancer 4 years ago. We were married for 37 years. So every time I hear it, it crushes me. RIP SCHATZI 😢💔🙏✝️
A friend had this play at his wifes funeral. They had found each other and were this perfect match. It was a such a joy to see them together. One night he went to bed while she was watching TV, he woke up and she wasn't in bed. He went in the living room and found her stone dead. It broke him, naturally. When this played at the funeral we all cried, and I can't hear it without thinking of them now.
Their first couple of albums were almost perfection but they definitely fell off. They do have a new song that sounds a lot like it's from the old albums.
@@biglock A lot of those mid to late 2000s bands were like that. They would thrown an amazing album at us and then just kinda...go to work like the rest of us?
If you think she’s never heard this song before this then I have some magic beans you should buy. It’s marketing. Every song she films herself watch she’s seen before.
The harmonies in this song make me feel things. Like, seriously, just the harmonies. It's not the lyrics, it's just the sound of those voices together. God it's good.
Thank you. I feel the same way. The harmonies have stuck with me since I first listened to this song. I don’t listen often to this song, but when I do, I get full body chills.
Every time that I hear Amy Lee, I remember a comment on a video of her in this channel, saying that she could harmonize with a lawnmower and it would be just amazing 😂
Country singer here. Grew up on seether. Loved the deeper tone Shaun has. Certainly one of my influences. Absolutely incredible band that doesn’t get talked about. Got to see them live in 2022. So good ! Lovely break down. Fun to hear songs I grew up on explained by a professional. Thanks !
Fun fact: Shaun Morgan is the reason Amy wrote the Evanescence song "Call Me When You're Sober." She was dating him at the time of this video and his drinking destroyed their relationship. It is said that when Shaun heard the song mentioned above that he checked into rehab that day.
Sean was going through a very tough time at that point, his brother had "commited" 😢 during the finding beauty in negative spaces cycle right infront of him. And he self medicated
According to Songfacts: "The idea was to write a song that if I could play it to him, that it would make him feel better. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to play it for him. So it was written just before, like a couple of weeks prior to him dying." I find that even more heartbreaking, if that's possible. Hearing his hopeful and supportive lyrics, knowing his brother never got to hear it
It's so easy to forget how good and impactful a song can be after you've heard it hundreds of times. That's one of the reason I love reaction videos, especially when you have people who actually know what they're talking about. It's the closest you can get to hearing a song again for the first time and get some good analysis at the same time.
Exactly. Seeing her and a few other reactors get to know metal for the first time felt like me when I was pretty much a kid entering this new amazing world. It is such a joyful experience
I love that you mentioned the emotional impact! This song invokes tears no matter what mood I'm in. It demands the tears be pulled out of me. I LOVE IT!
As a very young teenager, this song was on repeat almost every day. On my CD player 😅 You’re so lucky to be able to experience this for the first time. Enjoy 🖤
Us Millennials are a strange group. We got to see the before AND after, of growing up in a rapidly evolving & violent world, & this song really encapsulates what was left of that “before” time. This was just before it all really started to change, music included. It’s so nostalgic. 💔
@@CC_Babblecockmillennials and the first gen z’s were in that weird transition. I remember owning a cd player and an mp3 player lol. I had my first social media experience when fb and myspace were battling against each other.
Im here for a Seether deep dive. Saw them supporting Staind about 15 years ago in Sheffield and have been hooked since. Such an incrddible band. The Gift would be an amazing reaction.
Not even 2 minutes in and Elizabeth is having exactly the reaction I hoped for. I knew she would love this song. It is by far one of my all time favorite go to I feel sad songs. So glad she saw many of us suggesting this song :D
One thing I notice is in the chorus they flip their vocal roles. The first half Amy will provide a resolving note while Shaun keeps tension with a harmony and the second half they'll switch. Beautiful.
22:16 to 22:19 in the video... that's it! That welling of emotion that we caught in Elizabeth's face, the tearing in her eyes, the half-cry, half-chuckle, the lump that is all but visible in her throat. THAT... is the greatest compliment a piece of music can receive. And yeah, I was at the same intensity of emotion at that very same place in the music.
I quite literally couldn't tell anyone how many times I've listened/watched "Broken". Not even a ballpark. So, it's very refreshing to see Elizabeth react to this song so viscerally.
Amy Lee is credited for the string arrangement. You definitely hear grunge influence in Shaun"s voice. They were kind of lumped in with the new metal genre but are also considered post grunge. Post Grunge is basically a style that had a lot of the elements of grunge but a much higher production quality and a more radio ready sound and subject matter
I LOVE that you let the beautiful parts play out, even if you rewind later. When watching your videos, I wanna hear (and belt out!) the parts that we all originally loved and sang when we listened to them. Please let it play a bit, and explain after; Because its so fun to see your reaction and THEN have the knowledgeable insight you provide while we watch the best parts together!
I saw Seether and Evanescence live at an outdoor concert overlooking Okanagan Lake in Kelowna BC. They sang this song together live and it was just as good live.
Hey Elizabeth! The guitar effect played at (5:38) is known as a "Tremolo." It is a fun effect that rhythmically changes the volume of the guitar signal (not the pitch). You can mimic this effect, without having the proper effect, by moving the volume knob up and down at a rapid pace on an amp. Keep up the good work, I love your content!
Saw Seether play an all acoustic set at my college in Western PA, and it was right before they recorded their all acoustic album One Cold Night. The emotion of his live performance was unbelievable. You could've poured everyone into a paper cup we just melted like Elizabeth did. Highly underrated band.
This is the reworked version, to include Amy Lee, which was released for the 2004 Punisher movie. The original was released in 2002. Morgan wrote the song about the breakup of his marriage and family, after his wife chose to remain in South Africa with their daughter rather than accompany him to live in the United States.
I have seen Seether many times live. They are one of the few bands that sound genuinely as good live as they do on a recording. Really really good. Glad you did this. Hope you do more.
Hell yeah, Seether is often left out of the conversation about top tier grunge / rock bands, but they've been in my top 5 forever... Their acoustic recordings are phenomenal too!
Probably because they weren’t part of the Grunge Era. They didn’t release their first album until several years after Soundgarden broke up (1997). They were more part of the Post-Grunge Era - basically “grunge with cleaner vocals and guitars.”
Seether is definitely not "in the conversation about top tier grunge" because they came after that era. They're very comfortably in the later end of the "post-grunge" genre, which was basically simultaneous to nu-metal. However bands like Bush, Live, Silverchair, of course Foo Fighters, Collective Soul, and Candlebox are probably the foundations of "post-grunge", with additional highlights from bands like Creed and early Nickleback (can't stand them, but Leader of Men is a great song, and the first Creed album is proper excellent). Anyway.
@@DefyReality-ll2cg Do you think it didn’t start until Bleach was released, too? Because if you do believe that, you still have Chris Cornell to thank.
The Seether version of this track is great alone and very underrated. The addition of Amy Lee in this version just sends it into the stratosphere where is truly belongs. Amy Lee has always been on an entire other level.
Agree. I heard and loved the Shaun only version so when the Amy Lee re-release happened it annoyed me. Mostly because I was kinda sick of her since Bring Me To Life was literally inescapble and had reached the point of being annoying. Now that I'm several years removed I can truly appreciate how amazing their harmonies sound, even if it cost the song its original rawness.
Sometimes when there are two singers their voices just don't match up well, but with these two it's like peas and carrots. They just work so perfectly together it elevates this song to a much higher level.
Amy Lee harmonises well with a lot of singers. She has done incredible songs with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, and 'Use my voice' has a lot of female artists in the background, from singing to instruments.
Yeah, originally it was just a completely acoustic song. Then this version added the electric guitars and strings. I thought that Amy was the one who arranged the strings.
I still prefer the original version. This one got so overplayed. It didn’t help that when I was working at Champs Sports at the time, it was on one of our videos, so I’d hear numerous times a day for about 6 weeks. Have a renewed appreciation for it, but I just like the original so much more.
Amy and Shaun, both, individually sound absolutely amazing. When they get together and harmonize, they become so powerful that they could very likely literally move mountains!
Amy is at the top of my list of best female rock singers. Her voice is phenomenal. I saw Evanescence in concert last year and it was probably the best live show I've ever been to. Her voice is outstanding live. When she sang My Immortal by the end of the song I was sobbing. So emotional and powerful.
The thing that always stood out to me about this song is the dichotomy. Shaun is so raw, gritty and almost unrefined sounding. While Amy is so clean and beautiful and technical. Its like dark and light harmonizing. Its beautiful!
Hi E. This was the first song by Seether to actually bring a tear to this 58 year olds eye. The combination of the music, Shauns vocal breaks and Amy's ultra pure tones still hits me to this day! Peace.❤
I remember hearin this live many years ago at an Evanescence concert in Vienna. Sether was the pre-show and this song was part of their set. So Amy came on stage, half prepared for her own show in sweatpants and with half her makeup to sit down with a piano and perform this with them...magical stuff 😍
"Sean has elements of grunge in his voice" Elizabeth, Seether is the only band I have ever heard do a Nirvana cover justice. *edit oh, this got some replies. please do MCR- MAMA!!!
I swear.....EVERY time I hear Amy Lee start to sing (any song) she brings me almost to tears. I. LOVE. Her. Voice. And she reminds me alot of my daughters voice. She was an all-state selection as a Jr and Sr in high school. She sang a solo in their Christmas concert (Little Drummer Boy) and I swear half the audience (yes ME included) got teary. Wow. Amazing voice. Also, her harmonies with Sean are amazing!! Great duo there.
That was fantastic! Everyonce in a while I watch your reactions to some of my favorite songs. In my opinion 'Broken' is one of the lesser known masterpieces. And your analysis and emotions helped me connect even deeper with a song I have always loved. Thank you for that! It has probably been suggested or people have asked already, if you have considered watching the whole video first and then go back and react to it in great detail, right? You not only know your music, your authentic and inspired feelings and your facial expressions created by what these feelings evoke in you are truly worth witnessing as well. I believe it would make your reaction videos even more enjoyable. Just a thought : )
Amy Lee is the only person that could make me fall in love just from the sound of her voice. It has a unique beauty to it. I have never heard anyone project their voice the way that she is able to. She is one of my favorite singers in any genre.
Agree 💯. She did Nihalist Blues with BMTH at project download and she killed it. So now I desperately want her to re record the vocals with the band. I think they intended it with her in mind anyway
I'm watching Elizabeth thinking to myself the entire time: wait for it, wait for it. I almost wanted her to just watch the whole thing first without commenting just to see her reactions to it in the moment of the song in its entirety. Their intonation and inflection in what they're singing is amazing. This song is nothing short of a masterpiece in all forms. And yeah, there was plenty of emotions running wild in this one.
Seether helped me survive my trauma, I started listening to them in the height of my ... low points (quite low, low points). Shawn's voice managed to touch me in a way nothing else did (until I found breaking benjamin) and helped me manage /navigate though a lot of anger and pain i had yet to recognize. Seeing Elizabeth hear and react to the songs that saved me brings a new wave of love and appreciation for them.
Shaun's drawl and twang are pretty signature of Seether, and Amy's voice is both vulnerable and full at the same time. The harmonies are so pleasing to hear too. Just a solid song all around.
seether has a lot of songs that are absolutely phenomenal and interesting to look at from a voice performance perspective. they also really stayed true to their sound over their long years of making music in my opinion.
seether is one of those bands that was in the background of like a decade of mainstream rock music, and their versatility is wild, also I am pretty sure this song was originally written without amy lee and she adds SO much to the song.
Your videos are a treasure to watch. I feel like I'm experiencing old favorites for the first time all over again, and learning a new appreciation for them. Thank you!
I watched Seether in Durban many years ago when they were still called Saron Gas. It was an amazing show. Shaun was very humble and was amazed at the crowd reaction. It was a good show.
I went to their final show at the Mercury in Cape Town before Saron Gas relocated to the United States. One of the best club gigs I've attended. It was such a wild atmosphere. I still prefer the 'Fragile' mixes to the ones on 'Disclaimer'.
This is probably the most giddy I’ve ever seen you during a first listen. Rightfully so. It’s a beautiful song. I love your passion and your soul. Your husband, and all your friends and family, are so blessed to have you in their lives.❤
I saw them both live when seether was opening for evanescence. This song was HUGE at that time and I remember the crowd absolutely erupted when Amy came out towards the end of the set for this song. It was a great show.
I loved this song years ago - I’d forgotten about it till you did this reaction thank you very much! Your excitement is exactly my thoughts a beautifully written song with a powerful message
Tears of happiness on my face just from the nostalgia of this song, wanting you to listen to Seether and seeing the way you were gripped with emotion and let it play into the chorus. Seether Rocks! Love From South Africa!
