Everyone out there please help her get through her school...Im a American and I lived in barilli many years what you are seeing is the absolute truth and reality...there are NO jobs in barilli ZERO....I moved to a different island now and what I have learned living in the Philippines for 14 years is poverty is Horrible impossible to get out of without Help...this rei rei diserves help...she is very smart....anyone out there that can help please do....

I watched the original and felt so bad for this young lady. I felt her pain and know where she is coming from. Rai Rai is definitely someone that deserves to be helped and guided. She has a beautiful soul and I really believe she can be successful in whatever she chooses to do if she remains level headed and keeps moving forward rather than dwell on the negatives in her past. She’s beautiful inside and out. It must be really hard for her without it a complete family. Thanks for the interview with her, we don’t realise how hard it is for some people and it’s terrible that they are being exploited like this, she deserves better and am sure she will get better things soon.

So glad it worked out to be able to repost this, I think she has an important story to tell that is often overlooked or brushed under the carpet. Plus she has a great personality with her little jokes. It's a shame that so many people seem to get taken advantage of when they just want to earn some extra money for school even though labor prices are already so low there. I wonder if we could do some kind of reputable job board or something so students could locate honest companies near where they go to school that would hire them. Anyway I hope you do a follow-up with Rai Rai and I wish her the best.

I can certainly relate to what's she's feeling. That sense of obligation and having to pull this weight. It's self-imposed, but still it's very real, and until you can satisfy the requirements, i.e. make everyone in your family happy, at least give them all they need to step on, and help them make those few steps forward. We will never be happy or satisfied with ourselves. She's an angel, and probably won't be happy for a long time, there's alot that has to happen before that is even a possibility. My prayers are with her. Thanks for sharing, and being respectful of her space, and mature enough to know when to limit it. Because once that emotional rollercoaster starts going, it really is an overwhelming experience. It happens with me.

My Filipina wife grew up on a remote Island and is 65 now and 95 lbs. but can still carry containers of water as she grew up doing that. She is so strong for a tiny woman. We have had a long marriage. Perhaps this young lady will find a nice husband through this video.

I remember watching part of this and was pressed for time so didn't finish. RaiRai if I spelled that right is an amazing example of the incredible young women in the Philippines. Part of their ingrained culture is to work hard for what they want. They don't give up regardless of their situation. The Philippines needs more young women like this to get involved in politics from the ground up and make changes that are needed to start to eliminate the corruption in local government that is so rampant. Every time I talk to young women here I ask them to consider a career in politics. Many careers can lead into politics from legal, medical, hospitality, finance so I pray more of these young women think about getting involved.

The Filipino people sacrifice so much for their families and sometimes others take advantage of them as she is the kind of person that is the kind of person who deserves to be given a hand up and empowered and even your guidance Derek and Ai could be life changing. I'm sure allot of us at one point in our lives had someone who cared enough to help us help ourselves as she is on the edge of so much potential and would hate to see her falter or fail. Just a boost in her confidence and assistance could give her a chance in living her best life. I hope and pray for her to succeed and not succumb to the daily struggles.

I see how much you are needed in the Philippines, Derrick. You are a wonderful interviewer, people trust you. You've proven that you are someone that will hear them . Aww, so hard for this sweet girl to not have someone to ease her mind that she is going to be ok. That there will be people who don't know how to accept love and be a true friend. To understand that she is a valuable person. That there are many of us who long to have a friend like her, but true friends are so hard to find. And the harder we search for friends, the more our beacon attracts those who are like bugs, just there because they want our light. It's a learning opportunity. To come from such humble beginnings to even get into college is a big accomplishment. It makes my heart ache for her from what she has gone through. She must realize there's a big world out there and not everyone is good. She will have to be more cautious with who she lets into her circle even though it's not the Filipino way. She is a pretty young lady with her whole life ahead of her and she's off to a great start. Follow your dreams but it does take time. Find an honest employer for now and make a few pesos if you need to but stick up for yourself..

She is trying so hard ..any cruise ship would be blessed to have her...her studies are so important to break out of poverty...what she is telling everyone is true the businesses in the Philippines take advantage of their employees like that...

My Filipina GF of 3 years is also in college for hospitality management in Danao and she works on the weekends for her family's BBQ shop and makes like $5 a day. Its super hard to make enough in PH...

All too common situation in the province . Barili is a very poor local . With lots of wonderful people ,hardworking . Rai rai seems to be handling life veey well all things considered . I wish her well in life . If anyone can help rai rai with schooling , books etc . Anything would help .

sad situation, there are so many young girls like that in the Philippines, all they ask is to be able to get a good education and get into a decent job, i hate when people take advantage of them, they should be better protected

These people amaze me to no end. Living without 90% of what we Americans call 'necessities', and able to laugh, smile, and enjoy their lives regardless. SOmething else I see in this video, I have seen all around the world among those who dont have all that much...generoisty with what they do have, 2 of something there, you took the small one, and she said no....take the big one. Then she offered other food, then water, then...there appears to be no end, to the generosity of these people. What she has been through, is entirely unfair. (As life often is) She's a remarkable young woman, this Rai Rai.
