Blackie , great tip on that set up . I think you should have let some of the people know that you should put something over the end of the pole touching the tarp , a bottom of a plastic bottle or a cotton rag , to keep from tearing or punching a hole in the tarp .

very true i will do more tarp videos soon and point that out

I have a rubber cap on the bottom of my walking stick. So that rubber cap becomes the end that goes against the tarp.

Good content. But better, it was straight to the point. Not 3 minutes of content surrounded by 15 minutes of self promotion as too many YTers are prone to do. Two thumbs up.

Good video, one suggestion, use a younger smaller tree away from larger older pines if you can. The tops of those old pines can snap off if the storm is bad enough

Excellent advice. Never thought about blocking the gaps under the tarp from the inside, but it makes perfect sense.
@BLACKIETHOMAS
@BLACKIETHOMAS 4 года назад
it helps a lot and is better in heavy downpours

Good video, but I'd put the point at maybe 25 to 30 degrees to the storm. This keeps you from having a low pressure area at the front of the tarp and drawing smoke from a campfire inside. At a little bit of an angle, you remain protected from wind and rain but any wind will take smoke from a fire out and away from the front.

We need a video on how to cook over pine when you're in nothing but a pine forest. I know it can be done and produce decent results if the wood is dry and not punky or rotted and you're using coals instead of flames (which shouldn't be done anyway unless your boiling water)

Great info Blackie. One thing I’ve wanted to play with in that setup is a ridge line from tree to point on the inside. I know it will need a drip line. My untested thinking is trying to stop some of that Wind push ... along with the pole. In strong winds this is either going to work Or help the wind pull the stake out of the ground which would make it real fun 😂. Maybe two stakes on the point.
@toddgibson9861
@toddgibson9861 4 года назад
I generally try to run a ridge line from tree to tree, then set my plow-point up underneath it. I tie the center of the tarp to the ridge line with a prusik loop to hold the center of the tarp up, instead of a center pole. Not always possible on the fly...but works well if you have time to find the right spot.

This is great, I'm currently living in a very similar plough-point tarp set up. Fortunate enough to have unseasonably hot weather so I have my set up at a real high angle hanging off an over head branch. I can comfortably stand underneath the tarp. The dam / moat idea is great, I'll be using that in the future.

Great idea using that pole like a rudder, I usually have my bike and use that instead of a tree, makes it a bit low but I can get under it OK when I need to get out of the heavy rain and I always put the leading edge of the tarp into the weather.
