Aye man. If it sounds good why fix it? There’s some guitarists who’ve practiced their alternate picking so that it sounds like their down picking. You’d have to work on using the same strength on the up pick but it’s definitely been done.
@megaminx96
@megaminx96 3 года назад
@@ryang3225 I'm not really an expert but I think that you need to learn downpicking and alternate picking, it really depends on the song you are going to play, and even in the same song you can downpick and alternate pick some parts. For example in "the hell song" by sum 41 I belive that the muted part is downpicked, while the chorus is in alternate picking.

To add I will also say whatever chromatic exercises or scales you do try downpicking them as well. Recently started going to guitar lessons again and got lucky with a teacher who is a metalhead. He gave me a chromatic warmup and I spend ~5 minutes alt picking it and about the same downpicking it, and it's helped me remove some of that tension. Basically include downpicking into your warmups and it helps

I dig it. I need to get a metronome. I think it will take me some time to nail down. My down picking and galloping come from my entire forearm and my tricep/shoulder muscles get fatigued until I get warmed up for 40 minutes or so. If I play for a few hours, I notice that I can play incredibly well. I just put so much practice into my alternate picking. I will start these exercises to build my down picking speed starting tomorrow. Thanks for the advice on watching this video!
@KarriHanninen
@KarriHanninen 5 лет назад
Thats awesome! You can download free metronomes for your phone :) You should start practicing the movement mainly from wrist but you dont have to transition the technique to that instantly, so when you are jamming etc you can still do the old technique and once you improve with the wrist motion you can slowly adjust to using that :) Btw, Im also available for guitar lessons if youre interested (y)

I found that adding a different note (maybe an F while you practice on E) on every beat will force you to lock in with the downbeat. It works as a lie-detector basically.

do you change your index finger position in the pick, for down strokes or galoping? because until now i've been mooving it backwards, and the pick locks close to the joints, with the tip of my finger pointing towards the palm of my hand, witch is strongly closed by the time. is it bad?

@BLADEOUTDATOMB

it makes the sound heavier since upstrokes tend to be weaker (you can get them strong like your down strokes though), also the rhythm is just tighter overall. it's a must for a lot of thrash metal songs.

you should play slower still. did not keep the tempo on 240. i think you cant play slower either if you cant keep the correct timing. you can look at the record on top of the click if you think it was solid. otherwise you are improving and doing interesting videos. you make real good points but the timing has to stay otherwise no matter how fast you play it will not sound good
