@@PeugeotRocket brown is a running gag on this channel that has everything to do with the color and nothing to do with a person's skin.... now youre up to speed
My mum's early 90's Corolla still runs to this day. Never broken down, never had any problems. Just regular maintenance and it still keeps on trucking.
Some easy ways to check for ABS: 1) turn key to on position, look for red "ABS" idiot light, 2) look under hood, find lines coming off Brake Master Cylinder; if the lines run directly to the wheels, no ABS. If the lines go into a box, then run to the wheels, you have ABS.
+sugahotcakes The instructions in the original comment are all well and good, but the only REAL way to know if you have ABS AND if they work is to weld your foot to the floor and get kickback. Otherwise it's slide city for you (or, in the case of this Corolla, not even that. Just a gradual decrease of velocity)
My heart skipped a beat because the tire screech before an apex is never a good thing. I thought he was going to front drive plow on the corner. I've done it before, but not with as much speed.
+olskoolnewpaint RARE and EXPENSIVE LOL i hope that was sarcasm i can get one in this condition for 500-1000 bucks plenty of them for sale on craigslist
Yeah, definitely, and once you get higher in the revs, you'll feel a lot of power hidden away. And the best part is... You're still getting around 25 mpgs if driven hard LOL
So 90s... Actually, my parents had a 2005 and a 2007 Corolla and they had an all-gray plastic interior too haha, pretty ugly now that I think of it. Oh and they didn't have electric windows lmao
you're Simply The Best. When this Toyo was new it made everything else look like agricultural tools. And even to day this car are like a fresh new car. In a blind test you would think that this car from the 90's was the 2016 Hyundai.
+Alex P This might have been recorded before he felt comfortable revealing his face. Has has "back stock" of footage. It took awhile before my friend's car was uploaded.
How do you not know if your car has ABS? Why wouldn't you go out of your way to find out? It's a pretty important safety feature so it's a good thing to know so you know what to expect if you slam on the brakes.
Listen folks, my 99 Corolla needs: new tires, bearings, brakes, rotors, the front passenger axle, and an annoying exhaust leak; and she still does my bidding without complaining.
My first car was a 98 corolla with 67K original miles. It was a great daily but the legroom was terrible for long rides so I sold it and bought a 1994 camry (only because it's better looking than the 97 model) . The 4 cyclinde motor in the 94 was also bulltproof but by that point I wanted a little more oomph so I eventually sold that and bought my 98 Avalon. I think I'd still take the avalon over the same gen ES300. I hope to get mine to 500k miles.
Dude I have a 95 Corolla that just hit 100k I got it last February w 72k original miles... my impala died and after 3months of a rental because I couldn't buy and register a car due 2 covid (rental was out of pocket ) I found it for $2ooo and had new tires, batt, and fluids and brake pads.., MANUAL EVERYTHING except transmission, and it has GREAT a/c!! Lmao ....(3spd) tranny, crank windows.. slide seats . Factory position steering wheel. But been 30,000+ and still going.,. Its my only and therefore my daily and key 2 life lol.,, but my man I would happily sit down and shut up except maybe a couple jokes while you (try) to crank on and test the mechanical components of the car😆... the 90s ROCKED and kudos for dealing with that non stop commentary!
With the tires squealing, going for a clutch that wasn't there and the mention of "back up the mountain" I think Mr. Regular forgot he wasn't in an AE86. :P
Please don't ever shift an Automatic while driving again. You are going to damage it. It might seem okay, but eventually it will be screwed. Lower gearing and overdrive off are for towing, going through hills and winter conditions. It's not meant to be used like a manual.
Oh, the memories. I had a 99 Corolla just like that from 99 to about 2009. Part of my college years were spent driving this. Nothing exciting, but solid and reliable and it retained about 60 percent of its purchase prize at retail when I sold it at CarMax. This despite I had dented the right rear door panel while getting out of my tight parking garage (rookie mistake, but hey, I learned my lesson).
That's an awesome car. I'm looking for a 2000-2002 Corolla at the moment but the prices in the San Francisco Bay Area are a bit too high at the moment. Sellers are asking about $1,000 over Kelley Blue Book value
I bought mine for about 1500 dollars, and spent about 500 more in repairs. So a 1000 dollars doesn't look too high to me. I live in latin america btw and here corollas and hilux are the kings of the road, everyone loves them and everyone has or will own one during their lifetime
That dashboard... so grey, soul-crushingly grey. A soul-crushingly grey dash in a grey car for people so grey they don't look out of place in East Germany. In fact I think I'd rather drive a Sachsenring Trabant because it has more character... This is the sort of car that cries out for a manual transmission; to put some liveliness in the motoring that is otherwise as dull as dishwater. As it stands it is such an appliance it should say "Frigidaire" on it.
+Lazarus Long yeah, on my last car search I got into one corolla of that gen and that interior made me go, "I can't do this, I'm gonna put in extra footwork and find an unmolested civic, this is not worth the convenience". plus, a lot of corollas from that gen ate oil like motherfuckers.
Ah yes random road exploration. I do that in my 83 RX7 and took ended up taking it down a huge gravel and mud hill with 3' ravines on each side, shit tires and no ABS but it was fun.
lvcsslacker how is it a shitbox? its a really good car, its cheap, its tough, its cheap to mantain, it is comfortable, its gets good fuel economy. you think a car must be fast to be good? you have much to learn, not all cars are meant to be fast, so you cant measure everything with the same stick
lucas arteta One of my favorite cars (Fiat 500 Abarth) is pretty much the same way., It doesn't mean it's not a shitbox. A shitbox of a car doesn't mean it's a bad car. It means it was built to a price point. Mazda 3? Great car, and I feel it was it's best in it's first itteration. IT's still a shitbox. A really, really good shitbox. The mustang? All though the 90's it wassuper popular. IT's a fucking shitbox! Neon SRT-4? turbo. 215 Horsepower, light weight, and a ton of fun. Shitbox. Saturn SC2. I loved the shit out of it, and if I can find one with a stick, I may try to pick it up as a daily instead of my VR-4. Shiiiiiiiiitbox. Shitbox seriously doesn't denote that it's a bad car, though there are a lot of bad cars that are shitboxes... PT cruiser comes to mind. It just means it's cheap and you care less what happens to it over a more expensive car.
Locals still call it Mack & Manco's. There's one in Somers Point also, a little ways off the Garden State Parkway, saves you from having to park and all that BS in Ocean City.
My brother just handed down his 2002 Corolla to me. It has 243,000km on it which is about 150,000 miles. Not much for a 20 year old car, and not much for a late 90s early 2000s Corolla. It is a family vehicle. It was my Great grandmother's, grandmother's, my mom's, than my brother's, and now mine.
this Corolla is almost the same as mine. I have a 2000 corolla surprisingly low mileage (just broke 160,000 KM) and I love the reliability, but I miss my old 2002 Malibu for it's luxury.
You could get these with a 3-speed automatic. Yes, a 3-speed auto in late 90's or early 2000's. At least in the Prizm version. The brakes can be locked up.
Damn, if that's what's considered a "crazy" road I don't think I could live in PA. The backroad I take to and from work is like the Nurburgring in comparison haha.
Of course, AE86 was shot on some straight roads, and regular Corolla - on cool mountain road, almost touge :) I realise that it's just a coincedence, but it would've been so much better with the other way around.
Fun fact. If you want to exceed the maximum speed on the speedometer, you just have to turn off the overdrive. At redline, the car can do approximately 125ish. Not that I'd recommend it. First cars are fun. :)
It's part of his act....It's not part of him. He doesn't really care, but his character cares. It's a routine for RCR, but this is "the making of" for the video, released after the video, so he can have fun breaking the 4th wall and showing that he is not his character.
Mr. Regular are you in the Pottsville area? I spent a long weekend in Tremont in August 2011 and last year. A guy there holds one of the annual meetups for the Ford Panther Chassis cars. I plan on going back next year, I unfortunately missed this years meet.
will RCR ever get to drive an European Corolla or EVEN the European Yaris/yaris Verso? (its respectively the hatchback and "estate" version of the Toyota Echo). I do own a 1liter Toyota Yaris and would be happy to get RCR to review mine :) the only downside being that I live in Italy so I bet it's never gonna happen :(
Hey @regularcars , i would like for you do review my mini cooper R56 S. im in the Pa/DE area. it has some mods on it, but im certain it would be pretty cool.
Guys dont you get it. He did that on purpose and that is not even him but someone who looks similar. He is the Banksy of cars and will not show his real true face.
Wait, does it have ABS then or are the brakes just too terrible to even lock up the brakes? The owner mentioned the brakes locked up a little but with ABS it would go until lock and then release them.
