I bought a 99 Corolla for $1,500.00. Someone hit it in an icy parking lot damaging every single panel and the insurance company totaled it giving me $4,000.00. Best investment I ever made.
Spenser B someone needs to hit my Camry so I can get 10,000$. I don’t want that to happen but I know I will probably twice as much for what it’s worth if the car were to ever get totaled. I want a newer Camry I have a 2010 LE with 180,000 miles and could use a new one. My current one is in good shape and everything but it’s a little old need something newer.
haha yea, my 98 has broken all 4 door handles inside & outside. Good thing they are somewhat easy to replace, I did all 8 on my own just by watching some videos.
Both my 93's rear doors cant be opened from the inside or outside so whenever we carpool in it, rear passengers just enter from the front ala coupé, i never get it fixed because why?😁
I own a 1998 "Chevy" Prizm, 253K and counting, 1.8L manual shift. Meticulous maintenance. Car is no slouch even to this day, gets zero respect and will embarrass half the cars on the road that think they are quick. Best car I have ever owned-no contest. A/C still blows cold too. Corolla's are the epitome of mass production assembly line masterpieces.
A 1999 Corolla is the car equivalent of a blue collar worker who never calls in sick, always shows up on time, and never complains about staying overtime.
I still believe that Toyota Corollas are one of those cars that will last you a very long time. I drove a black 2007 Toyota corolla s & I absolutely loved it.
Toyota Corolla: The official car of the person who says "I need a beater car that won't die on me while I ride out the latest recession" Toyota Corolla: You got this car for graduation back in 1999... 20 years later, you're giving it to your kid in 2019 because they need a starter car.
Toyota Corolla... That one car where you're thinking "Meh, I'll drive it until I get enough for a better car." But then you see it 30 years later, still running, and you're thinking, "Oh Johnny is gonna love this."
When I was 18 I borrowed my friends Corolla to take my girlfriend to Steak N Shake on Christmas Eve to visit my friend, the cook. At the time I didnt have a license and my friends dad found out about it, got pissed and then made me bring the car back about 30 minutes into our "date" I then got a hand job on the way home. Thanks 1998 Toyota Corolla
Every girlfriend I had in high school had a Corolla like this... I remember seeing my first live titty in the front seat of one and then throwing up because of nervousness... That’s my Corolla story.
I remember buying a half ounce of weed every week in my old dealers 99 corolla when I was still in high school. The distinct ticking of a thoroughly neglected engine could be heard a few blocks away, and that was the sound of pure dank kush arriving after a hard day of doing oil changes at a lube shop. Hearing that sound would always put a smile on my face, as I turned towards it seeing large clouds of smoke pouring out of the windows of that piece of shit barreling down the street going 30 over the limit. He would slam on his brakes the car literally screeching to a halt, and I would get in the back seat as most of the time his buddy 'Chet' would be ripping a fat bong rip in the passenger seat I'd hand him the money and he'd hand me a bag that I worked oh so hard for the mutual trust between our stoned asses was unheard of as most other dealers were scummy bastards that would rob you the first chance they got. I'd be lying if I said I remember those times fondly, because I really don't remember much of it as I was high nearly 24/7 looking back I see how wildly impulsive, and irresponsible my life was at that time, and it really makes me think about the current state of my life, and how things could have been much worse... All these memories, and self reflection over watching a video review on a fucking corolla.
Hell no. My first car was a 97 Pontiac Bonneville out of high school and it was shit. I had it for 4 years and every year there was at least one major breakdown which left me stranded on the road. The first breakdown was with the upper intake gasket which flooded the engine with coolant. I sold that piece of shit then bought a 99 Corolla. It has 200,000 miles and has performed flawlessly. The only "major" repairs i've had to do is change the valve cover gasket and wheel bearing. Now I am retiring it because I am going to get a Tacoma pretty soon. I will never get anything that isn't Toyota ever again. They just work.
JT Shows Those are awesome but I am in the market for a truck as they are more useful than cars. Ive always wanted a Supra ever since I watched Fast and Furious 1 lol.
*DrinkMoWater* That's because you probably prefer looks over reliability. Any person that prefers a vehicle that simply works will choose a Toyota or Honda over anything else.
Just passed my 01 on to my sister for her first car, and I’m happy to know as long as she puts a litre of oil in with every fuel fill, it’ll run til the wheels rust off
I sold my 2003 Corolla passed down to me for my graduation back in 2010 to a dad buying a car for his son because the champ graduated from high school last year. The cycle continues.
@@chargermaster586 its just to get them started in the business. You could bike everywhere, sure, but it depends on location. Dont wanna get to work hella sweaty n shit
+Evan93 But, every Toyota car at the lowest end are the hardest one to break, because they don't have anything that can break easily. Like hiliux for example. Anything that are at higher class than that will break.
8th gen Corollas are THE cariest cars. It's literally an A to B machine and nothing else. Look up "car" in the dictionary and next to the definition, you'll see a picture of a fucking 8th gen Corolla.
I've had my 2000 for 6 years. She has 225k and burns little to no oil. She has had zero engine or transmission problems too. :) I will only ever buy Toyota in the future.
Own a 99 Corolla with 290k. I've been waiting for years to buy a new commuter car but this thing keeps going & going with just minimal maintenance. Once the wheels fall off I'm buying a band new 4runner with all the money I've saved. I already own my own home. Thanks 1999 Corolla!
I bought a 1997 Corolla with 150k for $700 myself. But I had to replace the water pump and timing belt, thing is now running like champ. Still drove it for a while with a busted water pump though...lol
I'm looking at a 99 Corolla tomorrow actually...hope things go well. I'm still upset my LeSabre got moosed but I've always wanted a random japanese shitbox sedan with a stick and a 4-banger.
When God created the world he was worried three things might outlast him: 1.) Coronavirus 2.) Human stupidity 3.) The 1999 Toyota Corolla Edit: I am selling my 99' Automatic corolla with 220k miles in Portland, OR for 1500 HMU in comments. (December, 2020)
my bro and I laughed especially hard at the chinese buffet line. because we had just gotten back home in his 2000 corolla, we ate at a local chinese buffet and we, ofcourse, had pizza.
People took for granted when they receive this kind of car when they're young. I did too, but how I miss this car. Care free, cheap to run, own, fix. Yes the car is boring, but I know this car will get me from point A to point b no matter how long the trips is, and in a comfortable manner. I can't do that with newer car I currently own. A small chicken shit would trigger my OCD. Not with this car. Need a alignment? I'll do it when I feel like it. I dint something? Tis but a scratch. Until I let it go I realize I lost my most dependable tool. Same feel when Mr.Regular lost his Echo.
+chunky soup You just described my relationship with my cavalier. Damn that thing was so reliable. Many Michigan winter blizzards were roughed with the FWD just to make it to some random high school party. memory lane lmao
I felt bad about selling the _Family Heirloom_ 84 Caprice to the towing business after it hit a telephone pole. Never be a jerk like that oncoming driver was, _please._ Argh. Dad didn't just hit a pole, the car went down an embankment. (He's fine overall, BTW; just seat belt rash and aches.)
this pretty much is the car I grew up with, same color same year. these car can be fun if you toss it right. it's greatest car for someone just to have.
These Corollas were nice which is why it's so strange to me that the Camry of similar vintage could be such a complicated beast. Lots of hidden things in the I4's engine bay, if we also conveniently ignore that the 5S-FE grenades after about 180,000 miles if you don't switch to FULL SYNTHETIC OIL at 105,000 miles.
my identity never was tied to what car i drive (Tacoma). i know posers that need flashy cars with big payments. i'm not a car guy. just give me something that stays out of repair shops. that seems to be Toyota.
That's why we keep moving forward. Love my 99 Tacoma. Just waiting for the Delorean to show up. My favorite movie is back to the Future. Marty had a 85 Tacoma, I have a 99 Tacoma. WHERE THE HECK IS MY TIME MACHINE 😁
or in my case my 74 year old aunt who lives next door to me, my 02 Ford F150 drinks too much gas, she could care less long as you have it back before church. same car except it's the shit brown variant, she still has her hub caps, and it actually runs really well.
Love the video except for the reliability. They are 100% bulletproof and I know this from experience. Sure every car has its faults but the Corolla just doesn't have as many as most other cars.
+Travis Judd My 1998 Corolla LE Manual has 225,000 miles on it and has NEVER had a major problem with it. It just keeps on going. It's no looker but it's reliable as hell lol and for that reason alone I love it. Oh and it's a stick shift.......nuff said lol.
Hell, I don't even have a Corolla, and I have memories. I saw a dude with a pocket-pipe trying to light a bowl of weed while driving 75 on the freeway in one of these babies - Not sure if he had too much already, or not enough, but the driver-side window was rolled down and blowing the flame of the lighter out and he didn't realise that was the issue. I was laughing so hard I could barely see thru the tears! Impressive fore-arm strength tho.
Lmao I would bring weed and pipe and hit it on road/freeway all the time on my Toyota FJ. Good times. I even went through high water(water touching hood) during a hurricane to pick up some weed lmao. I still have old snapchats of it. Got behind on payments 3 years later after losing my job. The bank took my baby :( but lots of memories.
Yeah that actually may have been my father and that is not a joke or a lie in any way. He had a 98 he got from a old lady down the street. It was basically perfect besides paint peel. Then someone SMASHED it all to hell one day when he was working at someone’s house. Moved the car almost 600 feet down the road with the back left of the car completly pancaked. The dude drove off and my dad only had liability insurance, and basically no money at that time for a new car. He did what he could to fix the body, which was honestly a lot. Made himself a tail light and got it to pass inspection. Then I got it for cheap having gotten it running after replacing ignition coils, now it’s in my good friends hands until he gets back on his feet. It’s really like a hard times helper more than a car. It still runs no problem besides being very very ugly. 200k and counting!
Oh look, a comment from past me. It's 6 years later and I just bought a 1999 Corolla CE because I needed a car to drive and not break. I figure it'll hold me over until I can get something I like, but deep down I know I'll probably still be driving it ten years from now. It's the same colour as the one in the video and the dash storage cubby door is broken in the same way.
@@srphtygr Oh really? why do you want it? is it because it can fly? or because it can drive underwater? maybe because it has 4 wheels, yeah that might be it
My Corolla is my favorite car I’ve driven so far. When driving it got a little boring i through on a full straight pipe and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. You can floor it for 10 seconds making a shit ton of noise without even breaking the speed limit.
1999 toyota corolla: The official car of the newly immigrated middle eastern to Canada. On the first snowfall of the year expect to see 10 or so in the ditch on the side of your local highway due to lack of snow tires and driver competence.
Awful Aim i see canada has the same problems as germany over run and been taken over kiss your way of life good buy. just look at the birth rates who has more kids
+MrHeyfuckoff forgot about that fact lol, I'm a Ford man all the way but I'm the first to admit the Holden Utes look alot better with not having that awful split and gap between tray and cab
My first car was a 93 Corolla. Hand me down from grandpa. My second car was a 14 Corolla S. Loved it to death. Now I drive a Civic SI. I still miss my Corollas. The power of familiarity.
True if you're such a lousy driver that you don't even want anyone else to pass you because you just know they're having way more fun driving their car than you are
+Angelo Reyes I can relate to this except I got a Mazda 3, which is really the same thing as a Corolla or a Civic or an Elantra or a Focus or a Cavalier/Cobalt/Cruze or a Lancer or a Forte or a Sentra or an Impreza or a Dart or any other compact car I'm not thinking of.
+MinnesotaChevy454 ehh Mazda 3 is a pretty solid car as an entry level. I would have been ecstatic to any car paid for by family when I was starting out.
Richard Uhlenberg I was going to buy a 2002 325i for like 5 Grand, but my parents didn't want me to because of RWD, high insurance, and maintenance fees. I settled for a slightly used 2012 Mazda 3 Touring and I love it. I'm still paying the 14k that it was sold to me for though. And I've always seen the Mazda 3 as a step up from a Civic or Corolla.
The beginning of this video is practically word-for-word the conversation my sister and I had when she asked what car she should get, minus the other car recommendations.
The Toyota corolla is an incredible first car or basically just a forever lasting car in general. It doesn't even matter what model year you get the corolla will not fail you
The one in the family is creaking up on 180,000 miles now. Still no major engine work out side of regular maintenance, just had to replace part of the exhaust system, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has another 80k in it.
@@duhcohtuh1500 Haha I don't know why the algo keeps getting these old comments noticed, but I actually traded that in I think at 200K, for a 2012 model currently on 80, just getting started :P
@@tipoomaster nice dude! I just bought a 99 Corolla CE with 120k on it, one owner (elderly guy) who bought it brand new in 1999, garage kept it and oil changed every 3k. I’m tryna see if I can get 300k on it 😂
"A solar visor wearing Korean war veteran holding a green reusable bag, sitting on a mall bench staring at the white tile floor, while Up-town Funk plays through speakers with too much tremble" If you're trying to draw a depressing image in your viewers heads, well, you succeed.
When describing sound that you perceive to be a bit heavy on higher frequencies, it is "treble" not "tremble" I didn't learn until a couple of years ago. I was embarrassed.
Absolutely shook when you mentioned Perry County bc I live in Perry County and got my 2000 Corolla last year as a graduation gift😂😂 Shit I just got stereotyped to the T damn
It's all about that 2000 Camry :). That and my 1994 Toyota pick-up with the 22RE motor are the finest pieces of machinery I've had the pleasure of owning.
