At 26:00, the reason behind Mr. Schmidt’s giggling: “In 1992 Schmidt unseated Jürgen Schult as the German champion in the discus throw. He competed in the qualification meets for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, but was not considered for the German Olympic team (rival Jürgen Schult was chosen and went on to win the silver medal).” - Schmidt’s Wikipedia Edit: The same Jürgen Schult was suspected of taking steroids, but always denied the accusation. Explaining Mr. Schmidt’s “guilt” line.

Wow, so another level, it was also the guilt because the soldier shouldnt put his initials on the scabbard, so he was hiding it with the vertical clip because he felt guilty.

Catching up on older episodes with a cigar. I really enjoyed having Wolfgang along. My dad smoked cigars and I didn’t like them, until I got older and appreciated the smell and smoke. Now it’s an homage to my dad. But the old schutzen rifles and Haenel-Mannlichers are amazingly beautiful. My dad had some. German pre-war bolt actions are some of the best of the best. 👏🏼👏🏼

Wonderful video, your best yet! Full of warmth, humanity and camaraderie. Thomas with his fabulous knowledge and willingness to share, joined by a superb guest who has lived through a regime and yet hasn’t been trampled by it. The ss LAH pendant is probably car Robby is right. It was a huge division, besides tanks they had other support vehicles like trucks, cars etc. Great show td guys and interesting guest as well

I love watching Wolfgangs expressions when you pull out all the nazi stuff you can tell german history and acceptance is opposite of ours on it. I'm also 50% German American 4th generation and love watching your shows because it gives me some lessons on german culture and I wish I knew more and would love to get to know my german culture even more. And again awesome show mein freund.

What a GREAT guest in Wolfgang! This has been my favorite episode so far in the series. I always learn something new. Does Mr. Wittmann collect original WW2 or WW1 photos? I'm just curious as that is the area of history that I collect in WW2 and WW1 items.

I know this is a late comment but doesn't Wolfgang look so happy yet so guilty at the same time to be breaking every law he ever grew with in Germany. Wolfgang if you see this comment please just focus on happy as do all free men, there is no guilt in seeing and appreciating history.

History is history really whether it was good or bad historical pieces should be preserved kept and respected, hitler , sadam ,stalin , or any other dictator/criminal they died their time is over. Even if i was a jew and my grand parents have been victims id still collect something like that to be honest preserving history is beautiful.

In East-Berlin the chicken were called "Goldbroiler" and they tasted phantastic ! It was a chain restaurant and very popular.
