Speed not really as they were capped at around 750bhp but downforce…. SOOOO UNDERRATED, especially between 2009 - 2011 with the double diffuser and blown exhaust, so stable!
They had to lift the RB6's gearbox higher so it can have more air from the underfloor for the double diffuser, that's channeled the air out and exit right in front of the exhaust, accelerating the air even more and generating more downforce from the already strong double diffuser and the fast moving air also created a suction area over the exit of the normal diffuser and help suck the air out from the normal diffuser to generate even more downforce. It's a crazy car and if i'm not mistaken, 2018 was the one who can match the RB6 high speed cornering performance. They had to make the car bigger with more crazy wings and complex aero just to have the same high speed performance of the RB6, while RB6 is shorter and smaller with less complicated aero and wing. 2010 f1 cars are the perfect formula, it's fast in high speed corner and agile in low speed corner.
@@garbage2882Renault worked together with RBR until end of 2017 since they prefer to focus on their factory team instead of their clients. Really big time mistake of them showing in the position where they are right now
Aaaand it is full circle. In 2010 these cars were regarded as the ugliest ever in F1 history (2009 onwards to be exact. Until 2016) Nostalgia is very potent. It will be like this 15 years from now. People will say the Ferrari F1 from 2022 and 2023 was the most beautiful racing car ever made as it is nice to look at today but there is not enough praise on its lines. When FIA lift the F1 cars nose after 94, it was received as a horrible thing as well. This will continue forever.
@@jameshedges3857Don’t lie V10 era never had 1k hp even in quali trim. Cars today are more powerful than ever but they’re heavier because they don’t allow refueling anymore and the cars are much longer and wider due to crash structure design and complexity of hybrid systems.
@@AnabolicRick915 They are quicker due to more downforce, but they are not more 'powerful' at all. The v12 and v10 eras had far more horsepower than the current cars.
@@freedomisslavery6840 I mean v10 did have more power than the v6 engine aloe, difference is 30-50 horsepower, but the issue Is the drag which Has unproportionally increased compared to power and Also weight, but no worries we have artificial ways to Fix it such as DRS and ERS
As much as I disliked this car cause I wanted Fernando to win. This must have been a joy to drive at every track. Back then it was almost video game like on rails. Something rarely seen when most used to wrestle the cars around the corners 😅
Next to his amazing aggressive ability to use every part of the track, kerb in kerb out,... Do you remember from 2010-2012 that Seb used to go as last man standing and that he was always so lightning fast and he always went purple in sectors, and then when he crossed the finnishline, together with BBC's shouting, he took pole.
I had a university teacher who worked for the McLaren F1 team for 4 years, 2007-2010. He told us that Turkey's 4-apex corner is the most G-loaded corner ever to appear in the F1 calendar. So much so that teams had to design unique, extra strong pieces for the suspension, only used for this track, just because of this corner. Otherwise, taking the corner flat-out would break the ''regular'' suspension setup. Quite incredible to see Seb take it like nothing happened.
Even though I've never liked Red Bull, I remember that season I was actually semi excited to see their car go through a few specific corners/tracks because it was on rails, and different from the rest. This car was a perfect balance of aero and maneuverability. It looked so agile at any speed. One of the finest cars in F1 history
@@jurekgadzinowski2895 more like it shows how unreliable the RB6 really is. Alonso made more mistakes than Vettel and majority of his wins were literally inherited by Vettel’s engine issues. Any reasonable man who actually watched the 2010 season knows Alonso didn’t perform as well as any other title contenders
@jurekgadzinowski2895 Vettel lost three probable wins through no fault of his own in 2010. Literally the first race of season in Bahrain, Vettel was leading comfortably and then all of sudden a freaking gearbox failure sends him down to 4th while Alonso leads a Ferrari 1-2. Australia, again leading comfortably from pole, before a brake failure throws him into the gravel. Then Korea, leading comfortably again from pole, and then an alternator failure hands Alonso a free win. The titles Vettel threw away were 2009 and probably 2018 as well (2017 also if we're stretching it). That's about it to be honest.
@@ryanjonathanmartin3933 I mostly agree with 2009, but Vettel would’ve lost the title in 2018 regardless if he didn’t make mistakes due to how dominant the Mercedes were after Monza. In fact, majority of the points were lost by Ferrari’s terrible strategies since Hungary, but people love to see the obvious and not question Ferrari’s questionable decisions throughout the season. 2017 Hamilton lost far more points with his mistakes than Vettel’s and the fact Bottas challenged Vettel for wins when Hamilton was P4 or lower was the prove of that. He was so consistent that if his PUs didn’t fail, he could still win the title despite the DNF in Singapore. Those who even thought of blaming Vettel for his lost in 2017 should see a psychologist. That’s how far the stretch really is
Miss the 2010 season. Still had the sound, cars looked better than 2009 because of the shark fins, great title battle and everyone was driving one-handed in the second half of the season to get the best out of their F-Duct which was funny to see
As enjoyable as it is to see this, it sucks to be reminded that we went from light and compact downforce monsters that sound incredible to the heavy pigs that sound like s..t, all in the name of "progress". I miss the old days.
We went from slim to thick😉, no but seriously once you get used to the sound it's not that bad; obviously there's no comparison with the V8's and V10's but still in my opinion it's better than what most people think.
@@vamositalia4600 Well, obviously it's the matter of opinion, but I find myself lowering volume for the onboards because it's unpleasant to me, I'm not even overexaggerating.
@@Razer_Dash Yeah if I don't like it, I don't like it, why would I agree with you? They don't sound good and that's it. 99% of people would agree and would like to bring back engines that sound better. Wouldn't you?
@@MyRealName I know that they "don't sound good" and I would bring back V8s atleast, but it's just what F1 is running on. Of course I'd also like to bring back small and slim cars (1998-2006), but what we have now is what we have, we can't really do much.
Just look at 3:20. He is flying around this Corner with just one Hand! The other one just covering the F-Duckt to gain even more top speed. Incredible!
Man I miss Korea and India so much, very impressive that Seb did Korea's last corner with one hand; I remember the Red Bull drivers did the same at Eau Rouge at 300 kph😳.
best generation of cars on TV ever imo. the way they danced around the track and the sound of that V8. plus i thought they looked super racey, esp in 2010/11/13. let's not talk about the 2012 stepped noses.
oh my. i only became a regular f1 watcher only like 3 years ago, before i only very sporadically watched the races on tv. the speed with which this car was able to get through the turns was really mind boggling to me
This era was just insane. Loud and aggresive yet precise and nimble in the corners. The RB6 might just be the best F1 car in terms of how visually appealing it is to watch.
2010 Seb was something else, he's sideways and flat to the floor in Australia in that 1st clip, he's not hoping the car will stick, he KNOWS the car will stick
Finally this video is up again, tho it's missing some parts from the original I think. Still, nice to have it back, a great reminder of what F1 used to be and what it could still be if not for dumb regulations that don't help improve racing in the slightest.
im sorry how did people see this and not think that the rb6 was by far the fastest car in 2010? it's an absolute shocker that fernando and the mclaren duo were able to be so close.
RB reliability wasnt the greatest plus the drivers were making mistakes throughout the season Lost points at Turkey Valencia Hungary Belgium and Korea due to driver errors
Imagine a car, with blown, double diffuser in the 2020 form factor, tyres and a cranked up engine without the restrictions. That would be an F zero car (also really dangerous 😅). They can make 1000 bhp, with 4-5 ICEs to 20+ race season. What's the real limit
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 I don't think the W11 generated more downforce than the RB6. The W11 was much faster as Mercedes had an OP PU throughout the hybrid era. Hence why they destroyed everyone else even though their downforce package wasn't as good as eg: RB. However, this is all subject to opinion as no one knows how much downforce either car produced as the data like that is kept confidential to the teams as intellectual property etc. No one truly knows unless they worked at RB in 2014 in a high up position and Mercedes in 2020 in a high up position. So unfortunately we can only assume
I loved how Vettel went out as last man standing, go aggressive, late braking, sharp turns, early onto the power again, taking kerb to kerb, having purple sectors everywhere to then crossing the line and be on pole as last man over the line. And all of this while tv commentators were screaming. The tension was always high. Ah, I used to collect all the polelaps of Vettel. He had such a way of handling the car and he was so at one with it...
If only we can witness the Grand Prix with this type of car... Oh, plus the Halo. You know what? I think I'd like to declare that Adrian Newey should be in charge of the sort of car design regulations thing at FIA for today's era of F1 and beyond. Who's with me!?
I love watching Seb just sends his car into corners and oftentimes wrestling with the steering wheel for corrections. For me, he's one of the fastest drivers when it comes to cornering to which Red Bull literally exploited hence their 4 year dominance
I've been watching formula 1 since 1999 (loved the yellow jordans as a child) and as watching the 2010 season I remember saying this car was a monster.
This car produced the most downforce ever till about the 2018 cars it wss a downforce monster honestly held back by a relative lack of HP from the V8 era
As much as RB6 is great at cornering, they lack the power, the straight line speed, and the reliability. People love to say Vettel and Webber underperformed that season, but in reality, they have the least powerful PU on the grid, have the worse drag on the grid, and have the least reliable PU. Tire deg is the worse outta the top 3 teams over the course of the season which made the car a lot less competitive on race trim. It’s that very complex variable that made the 2010 season so enjoyable. No teams have the clear best package over the course of a season, and literally anything could happen at the moments notice.
Ottima analisi. E questo era lo spirito della competizione. Ogni vettura poteva eccellere in una determinata caratteristica rendendo il campionato aperto a tante combinazioni.
Macchina impressionante l'RB6. Se l'avessero dotata di un sistema di scarico evoluto come la RB7 avrebbe disintegrato la resistenza fisica di parecchi piloti. Una delle mie vetture preferite in assoluto.
Incredible footage and the engine was screaming! Seb really knew how to hustle the car more than Webber back then…The bigger, heavier cars and less rear grip never suited him afterwards…But he sure knew how to throw the smaller cars around.
This car should have easily won both championships. Tensions within the team, poor reliability and driver mistakes made it much more difficult, but the car was on rails.
In my opinion it is a proof that Renault engine was awful, if RB had Ferrari/Mercedes engine they should be WDC/WCC around Singapore. Alonso without that much grip could handle battle to last race
Nah the Renault V8 engine was a good engine it had the best fuel economy and had the best drivability and was fantastic in its ability to be mapped for utilizing the blown diffuser perfectly
@vernerikerppola4438 nobody was talking in the corners. Drs makes a difference even more so coz the DRS became more powerful in the wider cars ( 2017 onwards) and the V6 Turbo Hybrids being way more powerful anyways
@@ALPHABYTE64 Pirelli doesn't suck, FIA have wanted less robust tyres for the race to be more strategic and exciting(since Abu Dhabi 2010), DRS is also the result of that race. At least Pirelli does not threat to leave with every single issue in tyres, in competition even in world economy. If Bridgestone or Michelin were sole suppliers during the covid pandemic we wouldn't have F1 races in 2020 and 2021. 😂😂
Yes and all the car on the grid at the time equipped those two things, just that Red Bull first developed it to perfection before others did catch up throughout the season It was not like Merc 2020 have all the luxury to be the only one using DAS system while others simply didn't have financial budget & limit on time to copy them, given them an unfair advantages on getting into the heat of the front tyres with ease🤷♂️
WOW! I was scared just viewing it! And look at how bumpy the ride is for the driver. Bouncing around like that ANNNNND judging your braking points and turning points is just incredible. How do they do it?
