Ranking every Red Bull F1 car

THE RACE

Red Bull’s Formula 1 history is a blur of blue, red and yellow liveries, world championship glory and Adrian Newey genius.
That makes it difficult to differentiate between the classics, the dogs and the ‘merely’ good cars it has produced.
But The Race is equal to that challenge and we have ranked all 19 of its F1 cars from worst to best.
This is not only based on the obvious metrics such as championships won and race victories, but also the pace relative to rest, their significance in F1 history and their place in the Red Bull F1 story.
The result is an order that contains a few surprises, showcasing what Red Bull has done right and wrong over the past 20 or so years.

Putting the terrible RB4 in the top 10 ahead of other race winning cars is complete madness.
@the_kovic
@the_kovic 3 месяца назад
I think it was ranked higher by the virtue of how the Toro Rosso version performed. It's probably fair if this were a chassis ranking as I think the chassis was actually quite good but a car is the whole package and it's a fact that the RB4 underperformed. It should have been lower.

I mean two different CEOs let’s be honest I mean two different CEOs. Let’s be honest, one hit the panic button. And the other one knew exactly what he wanted, but it takes time to reverse a course like this Unfortunately enough And Toshihiro Mibe was only appointed CEO of Honda in April 2021 and it takes a good amount of time to reverse their Even if Honda announced in 2021 that they were staying the earliest that Toshihiro Mibe Could’ve announced a project to continue with F1 would’ve been at Least been between October and December 2021 But then again, maybe if he had the support of all the board members and other people he might’ve been able to do it earlier, but still by the time that Toshihiro Mibe took over at Honda It would’ve been at least 2 to 3 months before he could’ve reversed. Any decisions unfortunately As by any time that these decisions were finally set in place, Redbull would’ve already started construction on their engine facility, and would most likely have wanted to do some work in house, and Honda would’ve rather kept as much as they can under their control, which is understandable

I would argue the RB16 outranks all of Red Bull's previous efforts in the turbo hybrid era up to that point as it saw Max on the podium 11 times in 17 races. They were slightly unlucky in that Mercedes had a monstrous jump in performance that year in response to Ferrari's dodgy 2019 PU, and the postponed season start allowed Mercedes to refine their initial issues with what turned out to be one of the greatest car of all time.

It's nice to see this summary. I've long wondered if you could accuse a Newey-designed Red Bull as ever being fundamentally weak from an aero persepctive*, and I think this video generally shows that you can't. For those that didn't have perfect aero, it seems largely due to mitigating circumstances. *or, from another point of view, that the overall performance of their cars have been more heavily impacted by poor engine performance, rather than aero and chassis issues.

2023: 3 races won by over 30 seconds. 8 races won by over 20 seconds. 13 races won by over 10 seconds. This, on an era where cars are so tighten by rules that the gap between their performances isn't anywhere near as large as previous eras. And yet it still completely trashed the other teams in almost every single race. In fact, the reason why it didn't had 15 or more wins by over 20 seconds was because safety cars were doing their thing and Max when he was in front was cruising, but even while cruising he was lapping faster than the others giving their 100%. By faaaaaar the most dominant car in the history of the sport. It wasn't the most dominant in Qualifying, but what matters is the pace in the race. And in that regard, it was, and it was also, on top of this raw pace dominance, completely reliable, not having a single DNF during the season over reliability issues.

@@SiegfriedDerDrachentoter Yeah, but the 2014 and 2016 Mercs had reliability issues. RB19 had none. But yes, those Mercs are the closest competitors to it. And also the 2020 Merc.

Look at how many cars were held back by underpowered and unreliable engines. Honda largely solved that issue by itself, and now we see what is possible when the team doesn't have one hand tied behind it's back.

@@TheSt1092 No it wasn‘t. It was factually slower on average quali pace and barely faster on average race pace over the season. The RB18 isn‘t a top 3 RB car. The RB in 2010,11,13 and 23 were all much more dominant, Vettel simply has always been a bum who almost bottled 2 championships in rocketships.

RB9 for me, is the best Redbull car. RB19 only won so many races because the competition wasn't up to it. In the RB9 era, the competition was extremely close but it still won so many races.

I’m not sure this is correct. If you look at the car just through Checo’s performances it’s actually really nothing special. I think you are confusing recent RB18 & 19 car’s performance with the driver’s ability.
@grimm6jack
@grimm6jack 3 месяца назад
The fact a bang average driver like Checo got 2nd in the championship, COMFORTABLY at that, despite Checo performing TERRIBLY this season, just shows how dominant the car was. 21 out of 22 races, get real bro. And the RB18 is the same. It was tight with Ferrari in the 1st half, but was DOMINANT in the 2nd only losing out on Brazil which was still the 2nd fastest car (after Merc that race). And Checo once again, failed to get 2nd due to his own errors, but yet, still managed to be 3rd just a few points behind Leclerc who is a far faster and better driver but had reliability issues that took a lot of points from him and a couple of driver errors too.

@@grimm6jack okay what you are saying is factual, as I would never ever put Checo above drivers like Alonso or Hamilton in the respect of personal ability. However, I also don’t want to suggest that Verstappen is only where he is just because he happened to have a much faster car than the other Champions, as he is a superb driver regardless of what car he is in.

@@grimm6jack Checo wasn't really that comfortable in getting P2. We also have to take into account that Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and in the second half McLaren were all stealing points from each other. If one of those cars was a bit better or good throughout the whole season Checo wouldn't have gotten P2.

Definitely not taking credit away from Max. Max + RB19 combo is IMO the 2nd best driver+car combo of all time. With only the Seb + RB9 surpassing it. Taking into consideration the gap between their cars and the rest of the field of course. Checo is a B-tier driver at best. Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton and Max are S-tier. And if I am to rank them across their entire careers (so far) I would say Max is the better driver of them all and Vettel comes 4th, but Vettel IMO had the best peak prime season arguably of all time in 2013. But he isn't as capable as adapting as the other 3 but in a car where he is comfortable in, he's probably the best, another case is the 2017 Ferrari, where I certainly don't see any other driver doing as good as he did that year, making that car with a huge high-speed deficit in comparison to the Merc (which kept getting larger as the season progressed) actually fight for the championship, where he could've likely won if not for the crash in Singapore (unlucky incident with lots of factors to consider) and the reliabilities in Malaysia and Japan. Peak Prime I would say: Vettel > Max > Alonso > Hamilton Consistency over several years: Max > Hamilton > Alonso > Vettel

Look, I love you former ESPN guys and the current F1 coverage, and I say this as a fan, but you need to change up your samey samey droning ASMR type voices. Put a little spontaneity in it and talk more off the cuff instead of reading from a script. Your voices are almost like elevator music where I don't even hear them anymore. I can sometimes watch/listen to an entire video, and when it ends, I wonder what's one topic they even talked about?
