I go to Download Festival every year. This time I decided to record my initial reaction to the first big lineup announcement of the festival. Some big surprises in there. Refreshing amount of rare bands and tons I've never heard of before!

Delilah Bon is the rap alter ego of Lauren Tate - lead singer of Hands Off Gretel. Has some good songs - try Dead Men Don't Rape, or I Don't Listen To You - and when she sings she can belt out a tune. I wasn't able to catch her set at Glastonbury, but heard she was mainly performing with just a backing track and dancers. Hands Off Gretel were very good live.

Harper is the young British girl who came to prominence on America’s Got Talent (oddly enough), performing Spiritbox’s Holy Roller. Courtney invited her on stage afterwards to perform it with her at a Spiritbox gig in London (IIRC). She’s released some of her own songs since.

I mean I’m definitely gonna go just cos I love going went this year was sick my first time not my favourite bunch of bands but still just gonna go for a good time :)

Calva Louise has sparked my interest. Quirky alternative rock with occasional Spanish lyrics but their most recent album has taken a sharp turn toward metal. I like Quirky.

Halocene is quite interesting. They stream with their band twice a week on Twitch, and do mainly covers on youtube. They have made some original songs too. Their song Vita Nova has a cool video too. I'm gonna see them this month too, they on their 2nd Euro trip.

Hmmmm, was planning on making the trip over this year but that lineup doesn’t excite me at all. Couple bands that’d be fun to see, but nothing other than Bad Omens that really gets me hyped. Main stage acts are…..🥴

It certainly doesn’t feel like a typical Download lineup, so yeah if you were banking on the normal balance of things then this would likely disappoint. Probably in part because I go every year I’m excited about the variety of different acts on here, but also I reckon the bands I’ve not heard of before are going to have some interest for me. Eventually I’ll do a dive into Spotify and see what’s crackin’ with those. May be more worth yer while if ye can find a way to get a press pass or something to reduce the cost of seeing a few you end up keen on.

Been trying to push Dying Wish for a few months. I'm sure someone put the Callous Doaboys up on Patreon, but I could be mistaken. And finally, did I see somewhere recently that Crystal Lake have a new vocalist? Gonna have to google it...
