My favorite all-time favorite river was the middle (down to the power plant) at 2500+ cfs. Olympic course had not yet opened. And, yes, I remember when the flume rock was in tablesaw. Nice Hellhole surf!
Great review like always I am looking for the Scorch. The problem is that as per manufacturer specs with my 186lbs I am at the very upper end of the M and very low end of the L. Looking at the volume I think the M has enough. I am an intermediate paddler of class 3-4+ doing mostly low volume runs and a lot of boulder rivers. But I also want to unlook the speed of the boat. I do not want to overload it.
Hi Wade I’m paddling the Machete and loving it. Would recommend me for creeking the Scorch or the DRX relating to the Machete? In my perspective you give the best and authentic insight on the industry. Greetings from Bavaria
You think the Ocoee is a more premier river run than the New River Gorge? Also, I think you should do a video discussing the differences between creeking vs river running because in my experience it is so subjective how people respond to that. You being as good as you are, as experienced as you are, and with experience in the industry, I'd like to hear your opinions/definitions of what separates creeking from river running and vice versa.
The key would was one of the premier River runs the new is up there on my list also but to me not even close to the gauley it smokes both of them lol but it’s seriously just opinion based. And I consider things with low gradient per mile and river rapid make ups between a creek and River running but it’s a topic I to discuss but would go all over the map like the new and gauley I would not say are creek runs like say Manns or blackwater all kinda close to each other but 2 are what I would say is River runs and the others are creeks the lower meadow is kinda like a hybrid of both so it’s a good topic but would go a lot of different ways it’s so opinion based
@@WadeHarrison I've never paddled the Gauley in a kayak, would like to but haven't yet. I have rafted both the Upper and Lower but never kayaked. I really like the Ocoee because of how continuous it is, but the New River Gorge has the scenery and just the feeling of being so much bigger. I was just curious to hear your reasoning.
Fun and educational to watch. And the joy from your loop was great! Was wondering whether the Scorch and Code are going after similar market? Would be interested in your thoughts on how they compare (realize that it might be a bit hard given your limited time with the Code).
@@WadeHarrison Perfect, I'm sure it'll be way ahead of boat availability, and my ability to buy anything anyway. I'm especially interested in how they surf, along with suitability for river running for a low intermediate paddler.
@@WadeHarrison rally that rocker is so aggressive and that Sturn lookes like u might just be able to do a tail squirt in a strong current but I doubt it would worke to much volume
9:10 I’ve been out 3 times with the Scorch L, and I am sold on it! Great primary and secondary stability. Question: I have a Ripper 1 and the Ripper 1 does not have the Scorch’s primary stability. Is the Ripper 2 more like the Scorch than the Ripper 1?
The ripper 2 from the cockpit up paddles like the scorch but from the hips back very edgy but it’s a true HalfSlice so that’s a good thing I paddled the medium and large and I absolutely love the large size it’s perfect half slice runs river like a sporty scorch but has a tail to play along the way
Would you say this boat is a good compliment to something like a machno or should one just go full half slice (like a steeze or ripper) for a second boat? Loving the content btw, the lockdowns in my country have been keeping me away from the river as of late so it's nice to be able to see this
Wow tough call Buddy I’m a big fan of half slice boats and this and a HalfSlice would be a good combination but not the steeze and ripper I would just end up paddling them all the time and not this It’s like a big half slice very different then what’s out there props to Pyranha to bring something little out there to the market
@@WadeHarrison Thanks for the reply! I think i didn't phrase that correctly lol. I already own a machno, it was my first boat and I've loved every minute of it. It's just so predictable. However, i was looking to get something that's a bit more dynamic in addition to my displacement boat (i've paddled a dagger phantom too and that one's a ton of fun, but i feel like it's kinda similar to the machno due to the volume, albeit a lot faster and more playful) From what i gather you'd rather get a halfslice over the scorch, right?
@@JustCraft2 I would own both scorch and more like a rewind or Antix 2 maybe the ripper the scorch is very unique because it fills the gap between the HalfSlice and boats like 9R2 Phantom it’s like Pyranha finds these small areas to fill like the 3/4 slice ozone and now the scorch they look for these areas and do very good job filling them the puppfy steeze is very close to the scorch in that
@@WadeHarrison When you can, try to put your camera in the support of the Stern, so you can see the Kayak better and how it behaves in the water, it is more interesting than seeing the tip of the Kayak all the time, thanks for the video you have shared .
Medium are not in the USA yet and yes I feel the LG is slightly to big on me I’m at the bottom weight range and have a seat pad in it I like the way it goes over everything but really interesting in the medium and X version of this...
Yeah my advice is always tie boats deck down or on the side with a stacker not hull down if can keep from it. And if get deformed usually just leave it out in the sun day it will pop out.
What boats would you recommend for class 1 to 3 ww beginners. Done a few class 2s in my 10f pelican clone but want a real boat to play around in the slow red deer river and others like it here in Alberta. Ozone looked kinda appealing so douse this but a pro can make any boat look awsome and fun. Pyrahna are nolonger available here in Canada except for a little stock left over at mec.ca they got replaced by titan😟 not in stock yet nor is any kayak for that matter and was told stock wouldn't be in for at least a year.
By what your saying it sounds like you in market for crossover style boat dagger katana Pyranha fusion JK traverse and LL remix XP those are the top ones out today fit your needs
@@WadeHarrison how about a used wavesport habitat 80 with skirt and paddle 750 Canadian little older with the black outfitting instead of the nicer white outfitting they use now?
