Detroit needs a SUBWAY going down Michigan & down Woodward. When it's hot outside it's cool down below & visa versa. I lived in SF for 30 years & transit was great. It was wonderful not to pay for parking, go to a bar & not have to worry about driving home, etc.

Detroit had its opportunity YEARS AGO but passed it up because the suburbs refused to have anything to do with it because it would i there eyes mostly benefiT Detroit even though the government was putting in the majority of the money.

Good luck with that. Detroit badly needed a subway since the 1920's, when it had it's greatest chance to even as late as the 1960's when the Olympics could've made it until it lost to Mexico City in 1965, and the rest is history. Detroit had the chance, but nowadays, it's just impossible at the moment and I'm not confident that Duggan can pull it off. But, then again anything's possible and good luck!

@@brucebeamon5460 why would the communities of Sterling Heights or macomb or orchard lake want a subway to a city like Detroit ? Detroit crime rate is like 300x national average while its suburbs to the north are some of the richest neighborhoods in the USA

Well we ALL know the underlining reason why it became what you say it became the federal government subsidized development out in the suburbs while neglecting the inner city , low cost mortgages and freeway systems that destroyed inner city neighborhoods , That essentially banded black people from these new developments taking the jobs tax base and political power with them , Then Lansing helped remove even more working class citizens by striking down city ordinances that banned city workers from. living out Detroit city proper once again taking even more of the working class that support city services. So being CRITICALLY HONEST this was an orchestrated effort to depopulate the inner city in favor of for the most part the segregated SUBURBS !

There is So Much Opportunity in Detroit for Commerce Development! Shopping Malls! Movie Theatres! New Casinos! Hotels! Skating Rinks! Possibly New Museums! Or A Mini Henry Ford & Greenfield Village Museum! Anything is Possible! The Packard Plant is Definitely A Dreamer's Dream! If Only I were Bill Gates! LOL! I would Definitely Invest In DETROIT!

Absolutely! Not shopping malls though imo unless we want big chains and car centric design to take over the retail space. Malls should stay in the suburbs where many aren’t even doing well and going out of business.

SUCH AN INTERESTING TOPIC one of my favorites , And especially adding the reality towards the end that unfortunately Detroit is STILL far behind others cities where development is concerned ( we open a pop up store and that’s HEAD LINE NEWS ) I hate to have the question answered as to WHY THIS HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES to BE other than racism I’m assuming other cities have overcome this problem that persists here in Detroit or is it just more persistent here than EVERYWHERE ELSE along with that we have long time residents stuck in there mindset that they are dead set against gentrification ( Those two factors I believe put this city at a stale mate ) Leaving Detroit as an also ran but never a true contender as far as development and population growth .

Online groceries purchases are a bad bet because of freshness. The professional shoppers often don't know how to buy a nice spring lamb.

And I don’t want some stranger picking my groceries that I'm supposed to consume , I don’t even Patronize restaurant’s that make my salad for me

So, one has to trip through the “Donut” to get to downtown Detroit. Or worse, live in downtown Detroit surrounded by the Donut. Ah, no.
