In Medellin we call that place el centro, or el hueco. El hueco is close to the biggest drug market in the city so at night when all of the businesses close and everyone goes home there's alot of addicts, and thieves lurking around the lonely dark streets. In the daytime its pretty safe, except for pickpockets, its a very commercial area during the day with many stores where u can buy nearly anything u can think of for a cheap price.
I go there during the day and feel pretty comfortable just chilling on the street and drinking a beer. Once sunset hits though you notice a rush of people start leaving the area and it can even be hard to get a taxi around that time. It gets pretty rough once it is dark outside. I was chillin there one day with my girlfriend buying some stuff and around 6 pm no uber would accept us and we were stuck trying to hunt down a taxi to get out of there. Lot of sketchy looking people and addicts smoking basuco lurking around.
I swear Spanian is a drama queen. RU-vid is full of travel bloggers in the most ‘dangerous’ areas ofColombia, Venezuela, Brazil. He’s making out like he’s in trench warfare.
Lol it cones across like that a little bit for sure but I don't think he is a drama queen he hypes it up for the audience that don't know any better and plus remember he has done alot of prison which makes alot of convicts extra paranoid being out in public period add that is a country with notorious reputation like Colombia 🇨🇴 he is going to unsettled abit lol
It's hard to explain mate I can only speak for Brazil there are bad parts you see on RU-vid then there are no go zones my partner is Brazilian and her brother is a cop and I went with him into a pretty bad area in one of the worst city's in the country Latin America is about common sense for the most part and if your not stupid it can be a amazing holiday
South America ( Mexico , Colombia , Brazil etc.. ) is 100000x worst than Australia. You see the sweet parts of it but it’s way worst than Australia. The violence and corruption is something you’ll never experience in AUS. You’re probably a junkie who lives in mounty and thinks that’s the hood. 😂 wait till you come down to South America you’ll cry to come back

El Salvador is safe, Columbia is decent but Mexico and Brazil is not that safe, UNLESS * you stick to tourist zones with military roaming. I went to Mexico in 2022 with my family and saw a dead body in the city. Fked up over there but ofc there’s worst around mexico

What I learnt from living in South America is that when the streets are empty, that's when they're at their most dangerous. If the streets are full, you're good, they won't try anything in front of loads of people cos they end up getting shot by members of the public.

it's definitely not. Tourists get robbed, drugged and killed basically weekly in Medellin. I wouldn't go back to any big city there including Cali and Cartagena. Countryside and small colonnial towns are beautiful.
The food is itshay lad. They eat pure fried rubbish and hot dogs randomly in everything. One of the worst cuisines. Venezuelan even worse. That “spicy Latin” allure gives off a false impression. It’s not like Mexican food it sucks. They eat everything with mayonnaise and ketchup like bogans. They also eat soups for no reason, s’house lad straight up.
I would say Medillin is one of the safest these days Cartagena being the safest. It's drastically changed in Medellin over the past 5 years with the police and military presence during the day. @@tobias193
I'm half your size and was alone and I walked around El Centro day and night for a year and I never had a problem. It's all broken down homeless guys. I promise you guys will be ok. Good luck out there
I waited for this video, and I'm glad you went to Colombia as many Australians get scared to visit my country just because of the information around the internet. Medellin is a beautiful city, but as you were told, most places in Colombia are better to visit during the day
One of the safest cities in Colombia 💁🏽♂️. I’ve been to barrio Santo Domingo Medellín, & was told it’s one of the most dangerous barrios/favelas in Medellin, and we had no trouble at all. But it’s Medellin Colombia, so you never know when you’re walking past a cartel member haha. Make sure to visit Pablo Escobar barrio, And also Communa 13 👌🏽
In Medellin now. Mostly a safe place. I haven't had any dramas here. Walked some dodgy places late at night off chops. My missus is Colombian. It's an amazing place. We are back to Perth in 2 weeks.
I travelled alone thru Venezuela and Columbia when I was a skinny dreadlocked 28year old. I went out at night partying till the sun came up had a great time.I was always relaxed and spoke decent Spanish, dressed a bit scruffy, never wore jewelry or a watch. It's all about how you act and look !!!

The backpacker hostel in Medellin are really good and clean with modern showers. Don’t know how you ended up there lol Also I’m 5.7 blond hair blue eye Aussie and it’s way more dangerous for me in Medellin 😂 Propper dangerous place for the month I spent in Colombia but cool people and hands down the most beautiful woman in the world.
