sanictheheghog I'm moving down there from NYC in Sept 2015. Coming from NYC everything seems affordable. If you look around Altamonte or Maitland you can get a beautiful 1 bdrm 1 bth for easily under 900. We're talking with all the amenities, washer/dryer, granite top kitchen w stainless steel appliances, swimming pool 24hr gym, parking, security etc. can walk to sunrail station downtown and winter park in 20 mins. I do recommend though having a car. If looking for work, salaries are low but if self employed (working online), which I am, it is quite easy to live an extremely high quality life. Cheap flights to the Caribbean (originally from Jamaica). can't wait to start my new life in Florida, so over NYC nice to visit but can longer see myself living there. Use this website to get an idea on cost of rental apts, www,zillow.com People from all over the world live in Orlando you wont feel like a stranger for long. Best of luck

sanictheheghog Hello. I live in Orlando! A lot of parts have a bit of crime so you to watch out for that. Apartments are very affordable especially 1 bedroom.

Winter Park is a little expensive, especially near Park Ave. Winter Springs is a great area too, and less expensive. For a one bedroom, you can find something in either area for as low as $75K, but it goes way up from there. All the best!

I wouldn't move here for a job quiet honestly I left NYC now live in Altamonte Springs a suburb 15 mins away from Orlando...low pay horrible job market....if you don't mind $10 hr for most warehouse jobs

That's because there are very few people that actually live within the city center itself. The vast majority live within the multiple suburbs surrounding the city.

Well here in Florida we normally don't like many buildings. We like to have as much beautiful greenery and wild space available, so we take pride in not having a city full of concrete and skyscrapers. I am sure where you come from is equally as beautiful, but not all cities are created equal.

there's more to a city than tall buildings, Orlando is a really nice area with lots to do. I wouldn't expect people who come from big cities to be impressed by downtown Orlando. We're still a small, but growing city.

there's plenty of cities with large skyscrapers and greenery mixed in throughout. Orlando looks like it lacks the vibe of a vibrant city. Seriously, where are all the people at? Disney World?

hurricanes don’t happen as often as you think, there hasn’t been a major hurricane in years, and central florida doesn’t get hit too hard even when there is one. and alligators are fine as long as you don’t mess with them.
