The way things are these days you need constant armed security. Not just signs. You need an armed presence and arrests. Every single night. They do this all the time on Santa Monica pier. It's a constant thing.
@@nelsongarcia9894 If they didn't have to pay for permits, employee SS, and a host of other compliance fees, that toast would be about as much as the outdoor guysl
Mayor Gloria will either crack down on this or not, it’s really that simple. It always comes down to enforcement. Hopefully he won’t keep saying that this is something he needs to focus on & keep talking about it, but will actually do something concrete.
"we're not unaware of this and we're very focused".... Right. What he meant to say, "we're very aware of this but we don't give a shit because we favor illegals over tax paying citizens so we do nothing. Keep paying all your taxes and fees or we'll be shut YOU down".
@@milk-cg5kr Then you must not be very good in business if you cannot compete against a little immigrant in a push cart. The little immigrant is eating your lunch in front of you. Sad
@@Jim-nt7xy they don't look like legit immigrants to me. Real immigrants follow the law and work their assess off to survive. Most of all, they are not entitled
Yeah, you go ahead and get your botulism for cheap because they recycle the hotdogs that have fallen on the ground and still give to people. So you are looked at by them as no better than a stray dog on the street eating scraps, but you still pay for it. Real smart. I will be happy to pay the higher price for better, safer food. #unbelievable
Better than the hustling gypsies sitting in parking lots holding signs pretending to need help for them and their 10 kids while their lady non working husband is parked in the back of the parking lot in their new minivan waiting to move to the next shopping center.
Yea but street vendors with no permits can be selling some nasty stuff. I was in Tijuana last weekend and a very popular street vendor sold me carne asada tacos that weren't cooked fully ..no bueno
@@krystalpo5139 sure sometimes restaurants serve up bad food but there's no oversight with street vendors without permits. They could keep on selling bad food and no one will stop them. I was in Mexico the past 3 years and it's a rule never to eat the salsas and condiments in the afternoon or evening because they've been sitting out in the hot sun all day You will get the runs. But they keep doing it everyday and no one stops them. You can argue all you like but it's unjust for the restaurants who pay high rent, permits and other fees only to be invaded by street vendors who don't. This isn't Mexico. There's a different set of rules here.
@@garycastronova7939I've been wondering if people like the ones who sold you carne asada tacos get their food out of garbage cans. So many people who dine in Mexico get food poisoning.
You forgot to add - "no liability" so if anyone gets sick (food poison etc) from eating from an illegal street vendor (you're taking a risk) Ask yourself if it is worth saving $
@@eatmysh0rtsit's not lol. If you're the owner of a restaurant. You can eat shit if you want. But the reality is what it is. The problem it is growing and will become a bigger problem.
Another thing to notice, people probably can't afford restaurant anymore. The amount of tips will probably be enough to buy a delicious hot dog. I would choose restaurant over street food, but man, the tips is ain't joking these day.
@@gnarlantlers70 Most people do not care about health inspection especially when the food is being made in front of you on the street and for the people that do, they will go to a restaurant. Just says a lot about the quality of food, service and high price when people rather skip restaurants for street food. Honestly, travel to Japan or Korea, you will see that they have hundreds of street vendors and restaurants everywhere, just about everyone is out eating and business is great for all of them because you can get meals for under $10 sometimes even under $5 at most places without tip. Eating out in those places is almost like an everyday thing because it’s affordable for everyone, can’t say the same here.
@@SOURMlLK great! Change the law don't just break laws you don't agree with. You're arguing against a point not being made. No one disagree about the price of the food. The disagreement comes when people flagrantly disrespect the law because they believe that if they don't like a law that means it doesn't apply to them. The food is cheaper therefore the street vendors can break the law - nope, sorry. Howabout vigilantes start enforcing the law? Howabout that? You want the wild west, cowboy? This is called mid-level violence. These vendors are trying to provoke an attack.
That’s not it. You are slow. This hurts legal small street food venders also. These illegal street venders are literally mostly illegals, they have no respect for the laws in the first place.
They'll stop after stuff is confiscated and they have to pay fines to get it back. Why not give them a demarcated area to trade all day/ night legally?
In practice they could do that but it won't solve the problem! In fact they'll probably encounter violence for doing so. Two wrongs don't make a right.
@biketothetop I don't think it's wrong for a restaurant to make money by selling their food. That's exactly what they are in business for, at that location. They pay a lot in property taxes to the city to have exclusive rights to that space. If the city doesn't enforce the law, *the city* is doing the second wrong. The cure is to reclaim that space and do what the city failed to do.
Gloria has to do another four-year study of the problem. And the result is: We have to be equitable and inclusive, so they're in and nothing will be done. Gloria is afraid of Newsum and that he will squash his political plans, that's all he is worried about, not the people he is supposed to serve.
San Diego would get great results if they got their code enforcement team out there along with a garbage truck. As soon as citations are issued they should confiscate the food cart, throw it in the garbage truck, crush it and watch the perpetrator start crying and head home to their illegal encampment in LA😮😂
They mad they losing money. Step your game up and do better. Stop being cheap. Apparently your food isnt that damn good if customers buying street vendor food. Get on their level and do it as well. Plain and simple beat them at their own game. Next thing you know. Your business will be vandalized. Move in silence first before making a huge announcement identifying the person and business name. Now we all know who it is. Not a smart move at all when you mess with someones money.
"We told them to beat it and they beat us" expensive restaurants or cheap tasty food? I'm not really worried about high end restaurants owners and landlords.
@@SeanD808 That may well be "mankind's" future, who can tell? Either way expensive restaurants are probably not going to effect our futures for the better.
🚫This is not okay.🚫 I wish SDPD could get involved and start arresting people and putting those carts in a trash truck! They do are homeless like that, which i am APPALLED by that! @mayortoddgloria Their is NO health & safety measures at these carts. No one is washing their hands and its gross! People buying from these carts, are they unaware of what "HEPATITIS A" is, or how easily a person can spread it from eating at one of these carts? 1-2 task force agents is not going to cut it. San Diego has the budget to make this go away. For those who don't like my comment, i don't care. I'm a buisness owner who pays taxes and i care about people not getting sick. If you want to be a street vendor, do it the right way. Apply for a health permit & food handler card with the county of san diego department of enviromental health and quality, and pay taxes like the rest of us! 🌇🌆🌃
59% of Californians voted for, and passed Prop 187, the Save Our State initiative. Gov. gray Davis circumvented the will of the voters by not filing the proper response to the challenge put forth by "illegal" aliens rights groups. You don't know what you are talking about so stifel it!
The US actually needs a bigger street food culture. Its nice traveling 2 any other part of the world and being able to easily pick up a good meal for cheap on the streets.
Us the people will always keep supporting small street vending businesses… if you have a nice restaurant and you’re “losing business” to small street venders than you need to ask yourself why. Lol
Facts! Yeah street vendors should pay for a permit but most these restaurants is way overpriced and the quality subpar then you still got to tip. The US needs a bigger street food culture
@@SOURMlLK by removing the tipping system should help boost restaurant quite a bit. The tipping system is getting ridiculous. 18% plus TAXES or TAXES PLUS 18% tips and tax. Ehh.. I'll just have a hot dog for $6 please.

Restaurants are too expensive. These vendors are only charging people a couple dollars for food. Maybe restaurant owners should lower their prices to reduce competition?
I like the street vendors we need them and vise versa if they have all the right permits like food handlers card and sales license they should be able to stay without fear of any terror on them what happened to this free country we live in? they have hotdog carts in New York why not here? This county gets better if we have competition its the American way leave these hard working people alone they are just trying to make living like us all shame on you for wanting them to go and get arrested or fined and to the restaurant owners step your game up if a hot dog vender can take you out you have bigger problems those customers are not yours simply because you pay rent in the Gaslamp...
Why don't you come to City of LA?LA is the best illegal OK city in the US. You can street vendor in front of Mexican restaurant that the city does not care.
Police should ID those street where they from probably outtowner Los Angeles people arent allow in San diego anybody from san diego ID those vendor if they from San diego . Contact San diego police than San diego police should contact the other state and file police report.
Just start confiscating the carts and food and they'll stop. Start arresting them as well. There're so many things the city can do and they just not doing anything currently. Poor local businesses.
the way everybody wants to show these poor working people 😂 and the stupid mayor criminalizing them instead of walking them through legalization he immediately put them aside from restaurant owners i’m pretty sure the mayor has a bigger interest on a rent control bill for everybody struggling in this city than for these hardworking human beings i don’t see why restaurant owners worry so much about street vendors is it that they offer better menus than their restaurants or why the mayor and the owners are so worried about people working on trying to make ends meet with this prices only the mayor can afford some jealous good fckng restaurant not many other people can! 😂😅
