Also nice editing to make the bell ring in time with the music! * grin*

Glad you liked it!

The funnel is nicely done and a pleasure to look at. However the bell, for someone in the museum, I wouldn't be too happy to hear it for the 32747th time a day.

Seriously, the museum is already amazingly noisy and the bell is entirely appropriate. The staff are really well chosen!

I take it that the museum in question is an experiental museum like the Telus World of Science museum (a.k.a. Science World) in Vancouver. Lots of activities (not all) that include making a noise of some kind. It's a lively place.

Yes. It’s a small place with around 60 pieces of kinetic art. Lots of movement, lights and noise. I love it.

it fits so well in the middle!

Thanks Paul. Fits in snugly. 👍

Another very cool addition. Keep it up! Difficult to tell from the video, but is there any concern that the ball coming out of the spiral to hit the bell will arrive at the same time the revolving lifting mechanism would be in that position? Would potentially cause a crash causing a ball or balls to jump the track. Just a thought, and hopefully not a reality.

Hi Bob. I have thought of that, but just ignored it and pressed ahead and built the spiral hoping that it would be ok. Turned out just fine! Phew. 🙂

In some sculptures there is a timing element whereby two or more paths may have different period to reach the bottom. Have you considered using contrasting balls e.g. brass or copper, to show the sorting?
@CopperGravity
@CopperGravity Год назад
Hi. I have thought about this. But for me, identical balls are the only ones I’ve used so far.

When you mentioned a Fibonacci curve, were you referencing the curve described by the base of the inner supports of the ball lifting curve, or the changing cone angle of the tapering helix?
@CopperGravity
@CopperGravity Год назад
The base of the supports. 🙂

I hate to be any bit of negative because I thoroughly enjoy your projects, but I personally would have to change how the solder on the swirl makes the ball make bumping sounds each time it goes over a solder point. I am probably a bit absurd though. Wonderful project, thank you very much for sharing it! I really want to make my own after I get settled into what I am doing presently. I have seen others use steel wire. Are you concerned about the copper wire tarnishing green at all?
@CopperGravity
@CopperGravity Год назад
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. The bumps also annoy me. Copper will dull over time. But I love that. I just prefer it to steel, but other makers choose steel.

Curiously, there were portions of your video that appear with noticeably less contrast, e.g. at 1:50, at 2:01, and at 7:04. What happened?

I use a few phone camera apps and sometimes one of them fails to deploy auto settings. Unfortunately I don’t spot it until editing. Thanks for checking. 👍

Coming along nicely. I wonder if it will be a problem the balls entering into the grove in the oposite direction to the push bar that is traveling ? i think at some point the downward ball will hit the bar ! all part of the fun figuring it out :) .. have discovered this guy recently ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DCganxG3CXg.html you may have seen his stuff already but well worth looking at all his marble machine videos for inspiration if you havent seen them already.

The push bar is pretty strong and I recon it could easily stop an oncoming ball or two. How do I know? Well I’ve tried it!!!

I meant will the balls come out of the slot if hit by the bar Or hit the bar and not land in the slot?

It’ll be fine. Else I’ll fix it until it’s fine. 😆
