I somehow stumbled upon these videos after buying my daughter a magnetic marble maze. I remember there being a giant maze in a mall that used pool balls and I would watch it for as long as I could before my parents forced me to leave. I'm really considering giving this a try but I don't have much experience soldering.

@Greystach We all have to start somewhere... do some practice pieces.

Good luck with your sculptures. One solder joint at a time.

@@CopperGravity I've almost got everything I need to start, need to stop by home depot for a few more things.

Like a revolving door or turnstile.

RBS4 has the complexity of the lift mechanism and the elements, whereas RBS5 has this sense of elegant simplicity. I'm really enjoying watching this one come together! Great work, as always!

I tried to find a resistance welder here in Italy but without success. It is perfect for making a marble run. However, with a little more effort I can still go with a normal soldering station. It's really an inspiring hobby. 🙂

I live in North America which is on 110/120V mains current, so using that station would require a hefty transformer.

As the ball and pushing arm pass through the same point so closely, in time to each other, could you design a piece of track that swivels about the vertical and is in place when the ball rolls through and moves over when the pusher comes through? Kind of like a switch gate but more so.

Thanks for the idea. I did consider this for quite a long time. But in the end I settled for the original design.

How did you make sure the lifting bar will never end up right in the jump path of the ball?

The pushing bar is moving anti-clockwise and the jumping ball is sent to a jumping position that is always free from the pushing bar.
