Love it when this virtuoso looks up at the guitars on the wall and and says, "I don't have a pink one -- yet!" reminds me of something finger-style god Doyle Dykes said, when he performed his "GUITAR POOR " song at one of our music stores (two Novembers ago -- a visit I helped arrange). I remember Doyle looking up at the guitars on the wall and saying, "I could get that PINK one." Brought with me that evening son Ben and his then five-year-old Luke. After a one-on-one conversation at the start of what was scheduled to be a 90-minute performance that turned into three hours, I'd mentioned that his Dad and mine died the same year and no doubt loved (an obscure song) Chet had recorded, The Poor People of Paris. After the show, Doyle picked a few bars of that on my Northern (Southern) Jumbo, hand built by Gibson's god of luthiers, Ren Ferguson -- who hand-tailored Doyle's latter day Guild signature model. I got him to autograph the face of my La Patrie classical guitar, built by Godin, who makes his signature acoustic-electric instruments. Like this one in this video. But this is where I came in. Shared with me by my 23-year-old guitarist/grandson Thomas. Thanks, ChicagomusicExchange for sharing this one. -- Mark B of the frozen North (Winnipeg)

With seven minutes remaining in a recent one-hour "HUCKABEE" variety program, (at the 53:05 mark) Shared on his Facebook page facebook.com/HuckabeeOnTBN/videos/1218805864947429/UzpfSTU3NjIyMDM4OToxMDE1NzMzNTk1ODkyNTM5MA/ Former Arkansas Governor MIKE HUCKABEE says, "Legendary guitarist Chet Atkins called my next guest one of the finest finger-picking guitarists around: Doyle Dykes is a guitarist that OTHER guitarists look up-to, and try to copy -- but they just can't! He's known for his distinct and recognizable sound that AMAZES audiences, while still capturing hearts with sincerity -- and his unapologetic commitment to Christ. Welcome Doyle! When I talk to great guitar players (including some mutual friends talking about the greatest-ever guitar players) your name comes up every time! When did you realize you were gifted at this, and not just a 'ham & egg' player like me? DOYLE: Well, I was raised at church -- my grandfather was the choir director at our church for 33 years and I remember, I was eleven years old -- I'll never forget the day when I KNEW (that I was saved) and I said: "Lord, give me a job to do!" (not knowing) then, that I would be using my hands in this way all this time! MIKE recalling his visit, with his wife to Liverpool, "and we went to 'The Cavern' (club in their hometown where The Beatles first drew screams of appreciation) "and one of the bricks in the wall had your name!" [shows slide of 'The Cavern Wall of Fame' of great performers] "Not many artists get to have their name on that wall. We are so honored -- thrilled to have you here, Doyle! "Here is Doyle Dykes performing 'GUITAR POOR'." [On a personal note; those of us who can't talk fast (400 wpm like an auctioneer) are in awe of that moment when Doyle clearly enunciates as fast as humanly possible, the various types of guitar his wife has permitted entry to their home! "My first guitar was a Silvertone, I wore my fingers to the bone," (me too, Doyle. Me too).] I helped arrange Doyle Dykes visit of almost a year ago to Winnipeg Canada where his scheduled 90 minute appearance turned into three hours. He must have made a single mistake, but I didn't spot it. As with this wonderful music store video, he performed this solo to perfection. I love the moment Doyle looks up at the top row of guitars and says, "I don't have a pink one yet."

He's *paid* by Godin to build this guitar, Louis. That's his signature instrument. Goding se fait du cash avec son nom. Tu voudrais quand-même pas qu'il paye pour ses guitares personelles de ce modèle-là après?! :P
