Affleck is an amazing filmmaker! Gone Baby Gone and The Town are two of my favourite films and I'm sure Argo will succeed them. This interview shows how passionate he is about film and how intelligent he really is. He represents what is good and exciting about the business and it is truly inspiring!

This interview has seriously inspired me and made me happy knowing how passionate Ben is to his craft. I really enjoyed listening to his insights and opinions when it came to the evolution of cinematography and him going through some of the greatest filmmakers in the history of film. I really liked how he gave a lot of credit to Victor Fleming for his work on The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind. Such a great and likeable guy. He's already one amazing director! Argo for Best Picture!!!

Yeah...I was one of those smart asses who said "Ben Assflack? Batman? Fuck of!" ....but after viewing this interview and re watching Dare Devil, in my opinion, he will do beter than Bale.His portrayel in DD as a guilt ridden hero was way more internal than Bale.I like the Nolan trilogy but geez.....let's be done with the mopping, crying and quitting type of Batman and bring on the world's greatest detective! Ben for the win.
@ANAXELISPRESENTING
@ANAXELISPRESENTING 9 лет назад
Samplelord Really humble of you to recognize that. I also had my doubts in the beginning. But I believe he'll do an excellent job. Not BETTER than bale, I believe that all batman's did their own job with the character (except for George Clooney), but I am definitely finding myself far more eager to see him playing the role than I was to see bale.

I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago, and come back almost daily. I started by watching interviews about films I've seen or talent I'm a fan of. Since then, I just watch every one because these conversations are great, regardless of who is in the chair. Can't believe these don't have view counts of exponential proportions. These are amazing, thanks.

Here he is a smart guy and he says something powerful and sadly the interviewer doesn't stop and really HEAR. He jumps onto something else fairly unrelated on his own agenda. You should really LISTEN to what people say and then follow it up, ask for more info on their seemingly off-hand comments. I wish interviewers were not too quick to jump in there with an idea or example of their own. It happens a couple of times. I wanted to hear more expansion on those gems of wisdom.

To be honest, I feel like those "handshake moments" become more about me and being thanked or thanking or whatever than about the film. I started slicing them off a long time ago and my cameraman stops camera pretty quickly once we get there. I get what you're saying, but I don't foresee a change. Of course, the best part of the interview is almost always the 5 minutes after the cameras stop. But that is just a brutal reality about people who are in front of camera professionally.

Be awesome to work with him. As much as I love Wally Phister and Chris Nolan as a team, I am a dyed in the wool HD video for cinema guy. I like the immediacy of it. And also the idea that you can keep shooting and let things happen. Good example are a lot of Johnny Depp's & Cheech Marin's improvs on Once Upon a Time in Mexico. So even while I know I need to get that shooting schedule done, a few more minutes here or there spent allowing actors to explore characters can sometimes land you the kind of magic film cannot, (unless of course Kodak is just giving you film....which happens!).

I didn't flag this as spam. I don't think it's spam/ The issue was about the character Affleck plays - the movie's lead - being Latino and a non-Latino being cast in the role. In some cases, I would agree. Here, I believe he loved the character, regardless of ethnicity and really, really wanted to be that guy. Sensitivity is fair, but not always a major issue. Not in my mind. Had I asked, I am sure Ben would have a smart, fair answer.
@dp30
@dp30 11 лет назад
As I wrote below... I did NOT think what you wrote was spam... but someone apparently did hit the "report spam" button. It was NOT me. Anyway...your issue is real and you have my sympathy. However... there is a real question if there would be an "Argo" with a Latino lead actor. These kinds of movie's are hard to get funded as is. The lack of someone perceived as a movie star in the lead might have made it impossible for director Affleck. Your beef is with the industry, I think, not Affleck
@LeslieLanagan
@LeslieLanagan 4 года назад
One thought in retrospect.... Affleck was playing the man he met, but not necessarily the man that Tony Mendez *was.* He and his wife had not announced it publicly yet, so Ben didn't know that Tony had Parkinson's, and it dampened his personality quite a bit. I have no doubt that not being seen was *part* of Tony's personality, but it wasn't all of it. It's a shame that we'll never really know who that person was except through the stories of his wife, who is still writing. Hopefully there will be a movie made out of "The Moscow Rules" as well.

Although I don't doubt all of Affleck's opinions are nuanced (very smart man, as this interview proves), I disagree with his statement about political movies; many of them are indeed very preachy, but a few are just gold - All the President's Men, Nixon, JFK, L'Exercice de l'Etat... the list goes on. I dunno, just thought I'd do them justice.

Sorry abt that somone else used this connection awhile ago. Look ,whether or not it is effective is irrelevant to usf atleast. becasue what matters they do do it . IT can be a false fad for all I know. but the fad do exist and is indeed a practice among studio heads. Why is Homer Simpson a family man and not like bachelor who created him..Why is Elaine wrote into the cast at final moment..Questions leading to same ans.

No, this isn't spam. Interesting you thought it was. I'm sure if you would've asked Affleck would've given you some rhetoric which you would have most likely accepted. Unlike actors of color, Affleck has options available to him as evidenced by the fact he was in a Terrence Malick movie previous to this one. Actors of color do not. Affleck did not needs this role. This lead role was that of a Latino American hero who lead a risky mission to save lives but a Latino cannot play him.

ADmit it u arebeing ruthless, unfair and egoistical .No one ca say anything abt this until we ask the people who are doing it ..Not just ask but reallyknow why they do it. & until then you cant just assume things..its like believing in heaven or hell to be true versus having "faith" ..iF you r just going to repeat the things you said before dont bcoz if u do, this arguement wud be pointless

@DaRunningMan 11 лет назад
My beef is with the industry AND Affleck. Affleck's the director AND playing Antonio Mendez. As he told you in the interview, it was not his project. They came to him. All Affleck needed to do was sit down with the producers (one of whom is George Clooney) and find a Latino talent to give this big break to as they rarely ever get it. If they refused, he should've walked away. Affleck's brother is hardly a box office draw yet that didn't stop Ben from casting him as the lead in Gone Baby, Gone.

OFcourseI know tht...and thats exactly my point.. And secondly looking at two movies and saying whether or not having lead white guys was effective is close to impossible because you'd have to then create the same movies with same scripts and the same direction BUT with differnt race actors...What Im trying to say is these movies failing could be caused by ANYTHING..As far as I know both thes movie are crappy and have really bad reviews. And thats probably why they failed. CONT

No, Argo is not a propaganda film. It is a taut thriller about how history overwhelms governments, embassies, AND individual embassy staffers. What happened in 1979 in Iran was so much more scary than the movie even depicts; if I wanted to fault it, it would be for that. But, of course, the "B-story" of the film is how a self-ridiculing tiny group of Hollywood types snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for the world's biggest laughing-stock intelligence organisation. Wait, isn't that ASIS?

Since you aren't a native English speaker perhaps you should look it up in an English dictionary. Then again, you being from Spain I think it's pretty unbelievable you don't know what it means since those Hispanics that live in Spain that come from Latin American are referred to as such in your country. So either you're pretending you don't know for some odd reason or you are conveniently ignorant.

"entire" documentary amounts to nothing if its based looney delusional ideas. MPAA and UCLA ,gave me ideas on white actors being hired more and nothing on racism ,the latino producer was talking abt a lost opportunity & nt on any racial prejudice ,descrimination..
