WOW WOW WOW!! First off, thank you Jordan and Chris for this awesome first look at this spectacular camera!! I'm so happy you both got a unit so early in, best reviewers on RU-vid! Love having you host for this one Jordan!! The opening scene was so funny and just exciting!! A while back I made a petition for the S1 to have a flip out screen. So many wanted it and thought I'd try and reach out to Panasonic for answers. So so happy the S1H is continuing to make Panasonic my favourite camera company for video and keeping the useful flip out screen!! So much to love about this camera!! The slow motion is everything we could want, the beautiful video image and compression options, the excellent sharpness and colours, mic and headphone port, great evf, dual native iso. I am very excited!

Its amazing how much better the downloadable files look than the RU-vid compression. The interview shot particularly.

Chris and Jordan are soul buddies. This is the best camera review I have seen thus far. Totally on point, hard punches, the intro was great, Chris's nagging was funny and precise review.

I heard it's possible to lock the sensor position when you deactivate stabilization. Is that true?

The amount of endorphins that got released during that intro of Jordan contemplating an affair with the S1H should be illegal. I’m contacting the authorities to have that intro included within the Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Is most of the video in this straight out of camera, or is it mostly graded LOG footage? It has that signature Panasonic greenyellow-cast written all over the daylight scenes. The evening shots were really nicelu coloured though.

Jordan looks REALLY happy

GH5 & GH5S owner here longing for the attributes of both in one unit. The S1H is it but for one problem (for me at least)...I have a raft of high-end M43 lenses I'm not going to get rid of, and I'd always want the option of travelling lighter with the M43 system anyway.. The S1H is the best full frame option for video when it arrives (unless you really need autofocus), but I'm goimg to hang on for a GH6.

Every Lumix S camera should have had that tilting and flipping screen. Every still and hybrid camera from now on should have that screen.

Jordan, this is your best job yet in the starring role!! What a great way to start the day. Please keep doing these video-focused reviews whenever possible.

Thanks Jordan and Chris. Just got the V-Log activation for my S1 yesterday. Sounds like the S1H has a number of improvements over the S1, like being able to resize the waveforms. Also that -18 dB option vs. -12 dB on the S1. I was considering the Sennheiser XSW-D system, but I'm worried about reports of clipping on GH5 cameras with the same -12 dB.

I can't believe I missed this. Amazing intro. Jordan's depth - gripping. Chris' bit was, um, OK too. Been following you guys for, wow, 11 years.

All-I compression is NOT always easier to decode as you mentioned at 6:00. A lot of the nVidia cards do not support All-i hardware decoding for h.265 (they only support long-gop). Only the much newer ones do also support all-i. Something to bear in mind.

They should make an m43 adapter in which you can use those lenses in crop mode. This way you can make your lens setup smaller at times or keep the 200-800 range of the panasonic leica.

That Intro was better than some movies I recently seen...and coming from a GH5 relationship, I totally get the feels. I feel dirty now.

This video is absolutely awesome! From the intro to delivering all the Facts while throwing in that unique comedy parts. I just love it.

At 6:55 and again at 8:04 I'm noticing some odd judder at the top and bottom of the video. Is the IBIS malfunctioning? It's almost like a rolling shutter effect. (I think someone else referred to it as a "jello effect"?)

I love the S1H already. Its chaotic. It sounds like a fearsome deity the Vikings worship. Its not perfect but we have come a long way from recording SD format on miniDV/mini DVD cds to this monstrous 6K-capable DSLM. Used to be if your camera had a fan,it probably was some RED or Phantom camera that had a 5-6 figure price tag.

By far the best still-camera-styled video camera out there, particularly for those who manually focus. As a Sony fanboy, I was looking forward to the a7s III, but it looks like, aside from autofocus, the Panasonic S1H has already trounced it. I particularly love the fully-articulating screen! Thank you, Panasonic, for not skimping! I hope you get lots of customers from this. Also, Jordan, fantastic opening and great video all-around!

Great rolling shutter acting Chris, very Stanislavsky, I hope to see more of that in the future videos, I had to actually rewind and watch it a few more times. Don't know about gear, but Chris is very cinema-ready.

As wonderful as this camera is...it's a bit expensive for some of us, and despite your reviews being more centered around conventional video, would you take a look at the cinema oriented BMPCC 6k? I'm waiting on your thoughts, Jordan.

Must say im a massive open gate fan, I don't film that much video but I just love 3:2 and 4:3 video. It just feels so much more real to me.

Very long-term lurker (I've been watching Chris and Jordan since 2013's review of the OMD E-M1) but I *have* to chime in here to say big thumbs up on the dramatic set-up to this video. And I love the detail. More like this please. But don't worry Chris: we all still love you. My only question is: was Jordan wearing a Camera Conspiracies t-shirt under that jacket?? Bigfoot Santa is curious...

This camera kicks ass. But if Jordan wants to give me his GH5, I'll take it off his hands. Three missed opportunities: DFD autofocus is not good enough, a lower-resolution sensor like in Sony's a7S line could reduce the rolling shutter issues while improving low-light performance, and there are still no hybrids with built-in ND filters. I would definitely prefer the a7S III to the S1H when shooting video. Sure, the S1H has 6K and 5.9K, but the a7S III has great autofocus and unmatched low-light performance. The extra resolution is overrated, both for stills and video.

Do you know if Panasonic was able to fix the severe blue light clipping problem that the S1 has in VLog? This is only a VLog issue as HLG does not clip its blues. Im hoping to bring more attention to this issue as once the blue channel is crushed, its impossible to repair in post.

Before 11:15 did you shoot on potato-lens? Before and after looks like night and day..... (....or cinematographer guy just show you how to use cameras)

Fantastic video as always Chris and Jordan!! All your points in this video are informative and so helpful!! I'm blown away by this camera!! It's just phenomenal!! Long story short, I was concerned when the S1 and S1R came out, I was concerned Panasonic wasn't interested in the indie filmmaker for FF (to the point where I made a petition to ask them to give the S1 a flip out LCD, I didn't run the petition very well hahahaha). I'm so happy they proved me wrong! This has everything one could want!!

Wow, that 6K 3:2 segment at 11:40 is pretty cool. It legit looks like 2 or 3 cameras were used when it's all just 4K crops.

GREAT intro!!! I didn't understand anything you said after it, but I had to keep watching. :)

Kudos for the intro. I have a GH5 and feel the same way. But that is technology for you. The other interesting thing about this camera is that the image only really started to shine when you put the Sigma cine lenses on. Up until that point, what? If you had said this was footage from a GH5, would we have noticed the difference coming down the ol' YT? Probably not. Finally, one thing that Panasonic seriously need to address is lens compatibility. I have so many Nikon legacy lenses that to throw those and start again is 'arm and leg' territory. I have seen one non auto focus adapter, hopefully others will follow, but there isn't much info on Nikon/Panasonic future adapters. This could be a stumbling block to what looks like a nice camera.

Is it just me or is there a mad amount of jello between 6:40-7:30?? Post stab or in cam?

Just might sell my Varicam and buy two of these and some Atlas Orion Lenses LOL! Looks so good!

i lovedLOVED the compression talk Jordan.. we need more of these video specific reviews you do.. blahBlah photography.. if it's a 'hybrid' then a 100 to 1 most are interested in the video functions & we want to know what it can REALLY do! data rates, cropping & how to get around it, onboard sound, best lenses for autoFocus IBIS etc.

Still waiting for the Wooden Niccolls episode with the S1H! I know there has been a pandemic and all, but it would be great to see. Nick is talking about a six-figure camera while wearing jeans with the knees ripped out.

I grinned from ear to ear when I saw the resizable waveform, hard to believe that punch-in while rolling isn't yet supported, I would have expected it to be among the other assist improvements. Didn't the Panasonic CX350 just add that in?

The color rendition looks amazing, especially the greens.

Great review! Unfortunately, the image quality is very video-ish, kinda reminds me of the old Samsung NX1 video quality. Not impressed. The Pocket 6K image kicks its butt. The S1H has great specs, but I think the camera will sell as poorly as the EVA1. Let's hope Sony steps up to the plate.

I ended up not waiting and grabbing the S1. I didn't really have the computer power to handle 6k and honestly still shoot in just 1080p for most of my projects. I'm sure there will be times the 4k will be nice for cropping in post when needed. The AA filter is a nice touch though, I'm glad they fixed that in the this camera. I know everyone was saying the BMPCC 6k would knock this out of the water cause of its price point. I still think this is way better than that camera. Does it still not enable manually exposure in the high frame rate modes like in the S1?
