I have nearly 500 hours used on DPS for Steam. I thought I had all the features I needed, but holy cow the next version looks amazing! Excited to take my maps to the next level, keep up the good work!
This looks absolutely fantastic. The light presets and light sources will save much time that was going into other software. Curious about how it all will work with custom assets.

i love the dps2 beta, but i have a couple questions. 1) What is the point of multiple floors? when you export as an image, it only shows the top floor, so are we expected to export one floor, move the next floor to the top, then export again? 2) How do you add walls? im wanting some of my maps to have a wall dividing part of the room in half, but the only way ive found to do this is to have 2 rooms and to portal out everywhere where you dont want wall. 3) Ive noticed when you have a lot on the map, there are some serious performance issues and rendering errors, even in exporting. is this something that's being worked on?
this looks like a great upgrade guys! Amazing work, and thank you for keeping the development going. I'm looking forward to playing around with this software for another two or three hundred hours.
ALL I NEED. is a "endless" map ALL I want is to be able to click onto a building and open a "meta map" which is a smaller map that exists in a bigger map. All I'd love is tools that allow me to say "generate". I would love a tool that allows for any picture to have "notes" on it.
There is currently no way to hide layers, and the grouping functionality of the original DPS doesn't exist in the new version. I haven't seen ANY activity from the developer past one year ago, so I'm just worried at this point that the developer was killed by COVID-19 or something.
@Dungeon Painter Studio Makes sense, it looks like everything has been revamped, but for the better. By the way, I've used your software for more than just tabletop maps; I've been using it to make layouts for storyboards on a short movie project I'm working on. Anyway, it's looking good, keep it up!
Looks good :) I really like the 3d-ish perspective option for walls, btw. Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to get it to have the same texture as the wall. In the demo image you showed before that seemed to possible, however. It would be nice to have the option. But damn, the possibility of having pictures and stuff on the wall now seems quite nice.
Sorry but thanks to RU-vid´s aniti-addblock shenanigans I no longer can watch your videos. I´m not willing to give up my privacy, when YT decides to turn away from their greedyness I will come back watching. I will stay as sub though.
Great work, nice app. i buy DPS about year ago, but only now start learn >< Why Unity?))) Ps, im Ubuntu user, and i work with Steam proton, but this is very hard. Can you build linux version plz?
So, i need a code for beta... So... Any chance to drop some? I've been using this program since beta, and its still on beta, any solution or news for the old DPS 1? If no, i'll take my money back, thanks.
I was really exited about this release. There are definately a lot of features that help you to group things WAY better than the legacy version. The textures look way better as well. The problems begin ( for me at least ) when it comes to placing specific items like doors, creating shadow effects with lines, that are completly gone ( Please correct me if i am wrong ). Creating a simple room feels imposible because of the already pre-created ground base, I can no longer freely create walls without a room. The blur effect and the "combination" of base grounds is amazing on this version though. I believe that they both have advantages and disadvantages. If they implement some features from the legacy version back to version 2 it would be superb .
I'm kinda glad I decided to go through my "not installed" section of steam and double check what stuff I liked and could use. It's a shame I'm half a year late to the party, but hey, I still made it :p
This software is amazing for buildings but I wanna make a mountain temple but for the life of me cant figure out how to do paths or cliffs or a high ground. Should i just go back to DP1 as it still did all the things i need
So how the fuck do I just add a wall like in the first version without adding an entire room? This is incredibly annoying and I doubt Ill be using this instead of the old version
man the improvements look huge. i hope old tilesets made by the community will still work properly, but i love how much power the new tools seem to have that i previously could only reach trough careful foldering and lots of practice.
Hey, I'd like to buy DPS and DPS2 looks really cool, but I'm wondering if DPS2 will be integrated into DPS's steam page eventually (so that workshop stuff and so on is kept). Also, will there be an upgrade fee? These are the only questions stopping me from buying DPS instantly. Thanks.
DPS2 is a free update to DPS1, all mods are compatible. To switch to DPS2, right-click on the DPS name in the Steam library, go to Betas, and select DPS2 from the drop-down list, leave the pass empty.
This is cool and great for whole maps but PLLEEEAAASSSEEEEE keep the normal Dungeon Painter Studio on steam and maybe allow you to go into DTS2 or one. DTS2 is great for whole maps but unless immissing something i cant just make one building or tile set with out including outside area. In DTS i can just make a full custom tile set that i can export (ie, just a 3x3 dungeon tile, or a 2x4 hallway dungeon tile, etc) and i can upload them to roll 20 to build on the fly. i cant seem to find anything other than exporting the entire map at once (even if you can adjust the map to a smaller size)
Can you please explain? I see that the DPS is not ready yet and I was about to purchase it, but then I saw that there is a DPS2. Would I have to buy the new one as well? Also... Once the map is available, how mine is it? Can I publish them in my blog? What about in my own RPG book? Thank you for your time.
You may switch to DPS2 in betas. Maps created with DPS may be used for commercial purposes, just don't use Workshop content, we can't guarantee the legal status of that art.
I love this new version, just wish it was ready for Roll20. Will people who bought the beta of DPS have to buy DPS2? Or get a discount for testing DPS? And will there be ways to add images or be able to save templates? And for the stairs will there be a way to have them descend with depth? I just have so many questions but super excited nonetheless.
DPS2 is a free update to the legacy version. LOS generation works for Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, and Foundry. Images and templates may be imported. I think you should try it yourself:)
Really excited to use the new version. I may be being dumb here, but with the rooms feature, is there a way to change the style of the walls like the previous version? For example if in this room shown, how would I change the walls to grey brick once drawn?
something i for the life of me, just cannot figure out is how the F do i create just a wall without flooring? I want to make an outside Fort, but there seem to be no option, it's literally only indoors areas you can create with this. Should rename it to "living space studio"
With the plenty tool it uses one trree, then rotates that one to create the randomization effect. Is there a way to have it spawn random trees if, for example, you have 20 different ones to choose from?
Just reviewed the DPS2 it's awesome ! Thank you very much. Some problem with UI like handling panel. Some issue with wall when 1 room inside un room with common wall . Merge is bugged. But really really nice work ! keep going on !
By the way, wanted you to know that this is an AWESOME tool I use basically all the time. It's a crime that people don't know about this software more, just wanted to show some support
First of all, copy all your content (maps and custom tilesets) to a location other than DPS working folder, to prevent data loss. After, right-click on DPS title in Steam Library, go Betas, and choose DPS2 from the dropdown. Leave password field blank.
The current tileset format divided textures into 3 folders - floors, walls, and objects. New tileset format adds two new folders - grounds and roofs. And now we can have nested subfolders. So, technically you may use every mod with a new version without any changes. In fact, you will need to move textures of natural surfaces to grounds folders.
@@dungeonpainterstudio5481 Thank you for the reply, although I'm slightly confused. By saying "So, technically you may use every mod with a new version without any changes." do you mean every mod will require a new version made for it? Or did you mean "So, technically you may use every mod with THE new version without any changes"? Sorry to ask again.
Looking to give feedback after trying out V2, Overall Looks Solid, The Newer tools were sorely needed but Version 2 Still Needs some updates to be able to accomplish some of the functionality version 1already had for example, Like Being able to more than 1 wall type floor (Imagine a prison map you may need a different wall type for jail cells vs the outer wall of a building) or Being able to turn certain floor transparent two can easily work while switching between the floors For the Floor option, the scale and rotate pattern option from version 1 also make a comeback, as currently, I don't that is possible in V2 also i could lose the tint floor option to be able for the floor just as it is for the walls Some or Most of the wall assets are sorts of bugged cause if an image is laid out horizontally, Horizontal walls come out looking fine but when creating verticals walls with it, it just stacks the horizontal image on top of one another to create the wall (vice versa if the asset image is laid out vertically). V1 didn't seem to have a problem with this I also love the wall perspective feature but the wall it creates are always white maybe give us an option to give it a color (or texture)
