I am diligently and consciously reprogramming the data files that have been passed along in my linage. I am 52 and have 3 daughters and a granddaughter. I focus more on this than financial legacy. Although financial legacy is important, it won't matter much if they do not feel worthy to inherit love. My mother was bipolar. Her mother was an alcoholic her mother before her...???. She was adopted, so not sure. But now maybe my grandbaby can say her mother, who's loving and endearing, and my mother's mother was super funny, and her mother was a kind beautiful soul. And not because any of us is perfect now, but because the lens through which my granddaughter could have, can be a healthier one.
From my personal experience I see a lot of truth to the mother wound concept. I saw it in my mother and I saw it in myself. It's why at a very young age I decided not to have children of my own, because I realized my journey of healing needed to be deep and would require a lot of time. I hope the book covers how the wound can be passed on thru generations.
I really do not think there are any perfect Mother, Daughter relationships!!!! Certainly not a hallmark card relationship. Like any relationship it takes work because we all have very different personalities and are certainly not carbon copies of each other. Being a Mother can be hard as well as being a child.
I agree all relationships (mother and daughter)have to be nurtured and both parties must be interested in creating a positive interaction. The relationship I have with my own mother is extremely superficial. She was not loved by her parents and therefore, could not love me or my brothers. The abuse she endured from both parents was neglected. She was not physically abused, but they were emotionally absent. My mother was born in 1944, and all she saw was families like her own. Even, now at eighty years old she hasn't been able to heal the child within.
