Three weeks ago she went to NYC to help out, considering this flu is all about the respiratory system, or so we are told. She just got back to Chicago, and is beside herself. I’m an RN in California and I agree with him. We are only screening symptomatic individuals. What is really interesting is that yesterday I had a patient that had all the classic symptoms. We tested the individual 3 time’s over the hospitalisation and they were all negative. Not sure if the viral load just wasn’t high enough or what but the attending treated her with prophylactic azithromycin and public health said if no fevers for 3 days we can discharge. I’ve seen a few patients get very sick but again, the vast majority are doing well. Our hospital was busting at the seams before this happened. We are now at less than 50% capacity. Stanford reduced their nurses pay by 20% because they don’t have enough volume. That is telling as it is in the heart of the California covid outbreak. I have yet to see public healths projection on outbreak to be true. I’m thankful that our hospitals are not being overrun. Makes absolutely no sense that we can all congregate in Costco, target, Wal mart, and Home Depot but individual businesses, which would disperse the shoppers, can not. Hard to believe it is not political.

But a national lockdown is a one-way-fits-all-mandate, and the Governors should be able to look at their state's hospitalizations and healthcare systems to determine if opening up is okay.

The idea of the lockdown was to make it so hospitals would not be overrun as they were in Italy and Spain. So the strategy has worked. Now the idea is to gradually lift the lockdown guidelines. This will make for more cases but hopefully not so many as to overrun the hospitals.

I went to a protest today in Los Angeles City of Hall.. it was so refreshing to see hundreds of people... no masks .. no social Distancing... great signs.. my favorite was “ I will risk the 00.3% for freedom “. This is no worse than the flu.. I totally agree with you and Dr Erickson ....
Not to say that Covid-19 is nothing to sneeze at. I believe it is a nastier bug, but it should have only gone as far as requiring extra precautions. Those of weakened immune systems should absolutely be looked out for. I remember the “warnings” during the last H1N1 bird flu epidemic. Those with respiratory ailments (asthma, bronchitis, etc) need to get vaccinated. I grew up with asthma and I didn’t get vaccinated and not a thing happened to me. This won’t be much different, if anything happens at all. Not an anti-vaxxer, for sure. Or scared of needles. (spent three hours at a dentist with multiple injections) They are important to those who need them.

The bottom line here is that he's only talking about Kern County, CA. I'm not sure why he's talking about other parts of the country or parts of the world when there are way too many factors involved for those comparisons to be valid. I'm reading these comments and thinking a lot of people are reading a lot more to what he's saying than is actually being said. He's not talking about "opening America", just Kern County.

That sounds right. The more positive tests, the lower the death rate. I learned from The Truth About Vaccines 2020, that if you got a flu vaccine in the past few years, you might test positive for covid19 even though you were never exposed. So I will probably test positive, but I am afraid to take any test, or get any vaccine from our government right now. They don't know what they are doing.

Some of the most brilliant scientific minds in the world are working on getting a vaccine. Most likely they will get volunteers to take it first and see how well it works, and if it works then great, but if it doesn't work then they will continuously work on fixing it. The doctors and scientists are working as hard as they can to get a vaccine.

The olnly difference is timing: - Italy Spain did the lockdown too late, some hospitals were overhelmed, died more people beacause of this - Sweden did not do lockdown but did the same recommendations as in lockdown and most people obeyed it, and did it in time - in US different areas were hit inequally. Because the infection rate is exponential, just a week difference on the timing of lockdown makes the difference between empty hospitals and overhelmed hospitals.
Except that Spain and Italy have an inherently broken socialized healthcare system and the areas that locked down quickly and remained locked down, like CA and PA for example, have the same infection rates as states that locked down late and opened early, like FL. Bottom line is this corona is very similar to the family of coronas, like SARS and MERS, but this one is more infectious and LESS lethal, although it's lethality is by and large focused on compromised individuals and groups. So we did it backwards- the elderly and those with compromised systems should've been quarantined and sheltered in place while the general population should've used masks and taken cleanliness precautions and developed herd immunity.

The bottom line is that we are not going to wait years in hopes of a vaccine before we all start living again. These lockdowns are unsustainable and many cases unconstitutional. Herd immunity is inevitable and is already starting to happen. That's how this should have been allowed to happen in the first place. Once this virus got out of China herd immunity was the only true remedy of this problem. All these lockdowns did was delay the inevitable.

I am glad to hear you are agreeing with Fauci that herd immunity is going to be the solution. The problem is, we want to slow the spread and hope that we find medications for it that lower the death rate. .2 percent of NYC have already died from it.
